This was a cute little romance that I enjoyed the character that was all its own. There was nothing new about the plotline, a female wants to prove she’s just as capable as one else (especially me) while her knight in shining armor tries his best to protect her from everything from highwaymen to assassins to spiders crawling in her shoes. It was just like any other romance about a knight falling in love with a maiden, and yet, Lathom added her own little touch of style to it to make it unique.
The story starts out with Anne Kendall masquerading as a woman of high society to save said women from being assassinated for information she knows. An organization called the League of the Blade considers Anne’s protection as one of their many duties for the betterment of the kingdom. Meanwhile, Sir Philip Clifford is acting like a pouting brat because he was not asked to join the League, which has been his lifelong goal. He first meets Anne at her mistress’s house and they begin to become…acquainted with each other even though Philip does not bed Anne, much to her humiliation. He tries to forget her as just a passing interest, and she tries to forget her feelings for him because she realizes she was just a skirt to him. Or so they think.
When Philip runs into her again masquerading as the widowed Lady Rosamond Wolsingham, they realize they that, basically, they still want in each other’s pant. After creeping into the window of her inn room, Philip doesn’t really give her a choice in whether he travels with her in her journey to the king. Adventure ensues.
While I didn’t find this novel particularly fascinating, it was still enjoyable.
Not my absolute favorite book, but overall, a solid romance. Great for when you want a straightforward, solid romance novel. Interesting characters, an interesting plot...a bit frustrating in that the hero's reasons he can't be with the heroine seem a bit extreme, but overall, I would read it again.
This was one of a few books left behind by the previous owner when we moved into our current residence. I figured... why not...? Romances aren't really my thing, but, hey, free books.
Of course, it would be the middle book in a trilogy, and, of course, the lacking library here doesn't have the others. It CAN be read alone, sure, BUT the characters spend the first three chapters constantly referencing their past book, so...
I wish authors would realize readers find that annoying.
Anyway. It was a fun read. I'd like to read the others, just for the heck of it, though I felt like the dialogue and history were a bit shaky. Plus, if I see the phrase "she gasped" one more time...
A perfect HR to start with after a reading slump! Probably the first HR where I've seen the MMC and FMC be equally matched in their insecurities, feelings, horniness and push and pull. The plot was getting a bit confusing to me at times, but the romance was solid hence the full five!
This is a story about a woman trying to better her station in life by joining a group of spies. She joins in with a knight who also wants to join this group of spies. I had trouble keeping my interest on this one. The story seemed to drag on with the spy story and traveling around in their group to try and gather information. I wanted more of the love story then the background story taking up so much time.
I can sum this book up in one word... steamy. Whew. Whenever Anne and Philip are in a room together, the sparks fly. Its obvious to everyone around them that they have something together. They just have to get over their own misgivings and misconceptions. Latham did a good job with the historical aspects of the novel. My only real problem was some of the verbiage used. It seemed out of place. Other than that, it was a fun novel and a great read.
This is a book that grabbed my eye (not by cover, by description) while shelving books at Borders. Since I like fantasy type books (knights, kings etc) I thought it might be pretty good. It was decent. A little lacking in depth, but a good fluff read.
this book so far is about a women who is setting aside love for her secret band of warrior knights known as the League of the Blade who she wants to be...
Book #2 continues with the story line & I am glad that I am reading them in order. Anne & Phillip are from Book #1. Looking forward to Book #3 of The League of The Blade.
