Believe me, if I could, I would give infinite stars to this one. There isn't any book compared to this one. I mean, it just constitutes 3/4th of my heart. IF I read just a few specific words from this book or even remember them, I feel like crying (though i bite my lips and control myself). Seriously there is no love compared to this and no sadness compared to his. I have read the whole series twice, downloaded it and will still read it again and again. The minute I go to US I will buy these books. I cannot explain my feelings in words but I can say that it fills my heart. All my doubts about love and life are cleared when I read this. If you wan't to know what is love, then please read the whole book.

*This review is for the entire series*

I really wanted to give this series five stars, but it did have its faults, which is why I'm only giving it four. I really loved the story. There was only one thing that I was sort of disappointed that happened and a few things I would have liked to have been done a bit differently. I felt a whole range of emotions while reading it and was happy with the ending. The reason I had to minus a star was because of the execution. For the most part things were great, but there were scenes that were rushed and could have been fleshed out way more. There was also the way that some things were brought across (I guess mostly I noticed it when characters were mentioning how they felt - hard to explain, so I don't know if I'm making sense) that I felt could have been conveyed better.

Original title: 가면속의 사랑 .
Genre: Shoujo, Action, Comedy, Drama, Gender Bender, Romance, Tragedy.
Volumes: 32.
Chapters: 134.
Status: completed.

*Read all chapters of this manhwa.

TRIGGER WARNING: Physical and sexual abuse, rape, violence and death.

This one should be one of my favorite manhwa but it was the end that I didn't like that much! Even though it is quite a long series, it doesn't feel that long, it is action packed and I didn't want to put it down. I kept reading volume after another and finished it 2 weeks, maybe?
I really had fun while reading it even when it got tense. It also made my heart wrench many times. Such a heart-breaking story about love and loss, with amazing characters and well written plot.

Synopsis:
"Suh Hyun-bin" grew up under the cruel hand of street gangsters under the name "Frog", but after her little brother "Pig" dies, "Hyun-bin" runs away and is taken in by a rich family to be trained to become a bodyguard. However, she must hide that she is female, and pose as a man. And so, for eight years, she grows up as a cold, male, bodyguard for "Yae-ha" the daughter of this rich family.
It looks like she'll be this way forever--until a fateful encounter with "Lee Yun-ha" shakes her foundations, and leaves her conflicting with herself, as her feelings of love clash against her feelings of duty.
It gets more complicated with each volume. We get introduced to many new characters which was an amazing addition to the story.

Characters:
Suh Hyun-bin: I loved how strong she was. She had a tough life since her childhood, with the death of her little brother between her arms, going through tough training to be a proper bodyguard for Yae-ha's family. Used and abused by everyone for anything and everything! Hiding her gender to survive. And with her love to "Yun-ha", it made her suffer more and more!
I liked the relationship between her and Yae-ha and how she considered her as a little sister, how she felt that protecting her is a duty, and how she wanted her to be happy.
Yun-ha Lee: he has a tragic past. He lost the girl he lovd in a car accident and his brother is in coma. He can't forgive himself as he consider himself the cause of the tragedy. He made a gang but was willing all of this to the one he loved. He is so sincere even though he always was pissed with Hyun-bin for protecting Yue-ha and suffering a lot because of her. I loved how he was sincere about his love to Hyun-bin.
Yae-ha: She is a spoiled child, but was not understood by her grandfather. She was a weak girl that always needed help and protection. She pissed me off sometimes as Hyun-bin always gets in trouble because of her. She has no redeeming qualities. She is just there to be protected!
Chi-ho: He falls in love deeply with Hyun-bin, even though she didn't care for him. He keeps following Hyun-bin and everyone thought he is gay but he knows that Hyun-bin is a girl but he doesn't reveal her secret. He always thought that they were connected because he was the only one who discovered her secret by himself!

I don't want to tell more about other characters as it may be spoilers, but there are many other characters that play important roles throughout the story.

Art:
I like the art of manga more that manhwa. You have to pay attention to each character at the beginning or you will be so confused as many new characters show up throughout the story.
But I loved the action and fighting scenes the most!

The End:
I didn't like the end that much. Actually, I didn't expect it at all!

Overall, I really enjoyed reading it but the end wasn't for me. I highly recommend it if you enjoy action packed, tense and heart-wrenching stories.

{This is a review for the whole series}

I really enjoyed this book. It had an amazing plot line, although there were a few places where I was a bit disappointed, I was always on the edge of my seat when reading. This book was really exciting and the time jumps were fitted in perfectly. While there is an interesting romance going on, I think that there were two many 'lines of love' for my comforts. I would definitely recommend this book to whoever enjoys action-packed romance.

This was my favorite series for years, since I was in middle school. I read it like 100+ times but now I know it's flaws and I don't like it anymore, well not as much as I used to. Number one I don't like that Hyun bin is the only one to find love and everyone with their sad stories end up alone. I don't like that Ga Hyun took advantage of Bi Rak and never told him that she was carrying his baby. I don't like that almost everyone in this book found out that Hyun Bin was a girl EXCEPT Yun Ha 🙄 man that stressed me out because he was so confused 🤔. Also the ending was trash they could have just had them all find mates at the end, or more details on their future life all we saw was Hyun Bin and flashes of like 2 others.

I think Ga Hyun should have gotten with Chi ho and Yae Ha should have gotten with anyone but the male lead. I would be over joyed because he treated her like trash🗑️. Also she was becoming ignorant. It made me mad that even at the end everyone was still love sick it was irritating like move on there are plenty of fish 🐠 in the sea ⛵.

Overall awesome story I hope someone does a fanfic and changes all the things I found wrong with the book, also I hope this gets turned into a movie 🎥.

My review is for the entire series because I read all 31 books several months ago..and it'd be utterly redundant to try and break it down to each book.

Across the board I give it a 4. I would not say I loved this series. I was just really compelled to keep reading. It was a complex, well-thought out, heartbreaking plot. I couldnt stop reading it even though it made me so sad for ....well, everyone, except most of the adults...

Knowing one of my favorite characters, Chun Bi-rak, was going to die had me in suspense. I hated that he had to die, but it kind of made sense in the run of the manhwa. He had committed all these terrible acts in order to survive and avenge his friend's death. He wanted out, but in the end, he had become so embroiled in the mess of his life that death was really the only way out. He did one last heroic thing for Suh Hyun-Bin, the main character, and that was after a dozen or more books of protecting her while within the korean version of the Yakuza!

The ONE thing that incensed me was at the very end...the last book, I believe, Suh Hyun-Bin has this complete turn around and is acting like the loving widow and is mourning Chun Bi-rak's death and totally not being herself...Then you find out she was hypnotized and given a completely different set of memories because she couldn't handle Bi-Rak's death...the hypnotization was kind of a load of bull especially considering they were talking about a famous psychiatrist's techniques and not some science fiction way of creating new memories. That part was a bit of a copout and a twist in the story that didn't flesh out very well.

And lastly, I applaud Suh Hyun-bin's "happy" ending. She deserved it after all the shit (excuse my language) she was put through for years and years. Things were tied up in the end but not in a pretty bow even with the "happy" ending. The journey was poignant and included much heartbreak, pain, and death. It was definitely one of those stories that stuck with me and I do not exactly regret reading. It's pretty heavy reading the further you get into the story.

Also, I am leaving out a huge chunk of this story such as Suh Hyun-bin being a bodyguard to a rich girl and falling in love with a boy while pretending to be a boy...and how she and the person she's guarding joined a school gang. That part of the story is important, BUT to me, where the story really takes off is when Suh Hyun-bin becomes part of the "adult" gang around book 50 or so...

the plot just strike me to finish it all.
Hyunbin lead a really sad life.
it's really good that despite of all that she's actually loved by lots of people and despite there are still lots of people that taking advantage of her as well...
tho personally the ending looks quite rush so...
and despite all of these I still give 5 stars.

*Review for entire story/all volumes*

Wow! Rarely have I come across a story that uses tension so well to help drive the plot.

Hyun Bin's character is both tragic and strong as you follow her from the time she's picked up off the streets at the age of 7 and given a choice that will affect the rest of her life: Go with them and live as a boy and a same-age bodyguard for Chairman Yun's granddaughter Yae Ha or be thrown back onto the street, back into the hands of the abusive gangsters who had been using her. Hyun Bin (not surprisingly) agrees to their terms. But there is one vital condition: If she breaks the agreement by revealing she's a girl or not fulfilling her duties, then Chairman Yun will consider useless and she will be "gotten rid of".

As Hyun grows up, she becomes friends with others her age who've also experienced harsh pasts...and it becomes more and more burdensome for her to keep parts of who she really is a secret. Becoming more and more torn between duty and love and identity, Hyun has to make harder and harder decisions as the stakes continue to rise, and those she cares for become deeper and deeper involved-knowingly and unknowingly- with the dark life her choice has bound her to.

The plot development is great-the story keeps a good pace, and the lives of the characters are beautifully interwoven. The characters are flawed, raw, and real while also being endearing.

One of the best manga/manhwa I've come across...and even one of the best stories in general I've found in a long time.

Be prepared to have your emotions pulled along by Hyun Bin's life.

Actual rating: 2.5

(this rating is a reflection of all 32 volumes)

So disappointing! And it had so much potential!

The first forty chapters were great, and then the story went downhill.

Quite frankly, I still don't really understand what happened in the last few chapters, but I know that I didn't like how the story ended up.

This is my rating for the whole of the series. I really loved it, but I think the end sort of ruined it in the end, meaning that I can't quite give it the 5 stars I wanted to give it.

Crazy Tokyo Paradise mixed with a little Hana Kimi, plus it's a manhwa, so it's got some kdrama vibes.

Giving it a four because of the absolute Bullshit of an ending it had.
The love that hyun bin had for Yun ha went from the focus of the story, a love is strong and unbreakable she saw his face while she was being beaten, to some trivial wrap-up. Yun ha sounded stupid and as lovesick as chi-ho at the end.and what the Fuck was that reaction towards finding out she was a girl?
"Hyun bins a woman?"
This was what i was most anticipating when i first read this, and its all i get. Hyun Bin only felt familiel love with chun bi-rak, it suddenly switched from that to a romantic love just because he kissed her. And then she fucking decides to leave yunha!
Iv read this series 3 times.
I read it for everything except the ending. Once Chun bi rak starts acknowledging his feelings for Hyun bin, everything goes down hill from there, and i cringe as i read the rest yet i still do because i need some kind of wrap-up. Is it a satisfying one? Fucking no.
Someone write a fanfiction with a better ending to this amazing manwa. It deserves soo much better. Anything else besides this.
cant write but id do it in a heartbeat.

Hypnosis to get rid of her memories ? I fucking cant

Love this story!!

I was looking for a gender bender comedy shoujo and stumbled upon Love in the Mask. I started it without having read many reviews, so I was surprised when I realized it's actually a drama, but anyways, I couldn't put it down.

The story is both heart warming and very sad. Most of the characters have gone through a lot of stuff. The heroine is strong willed, loyal and brave. I love her but I swear it broke my heart every time I saw her get beaten or hurt and stand up again. She has such a strong will to live and has no problem in sacrificing herself for the sake of others.

I felt the ending was rushed though. I would have liked their reunion to be longer, they just exchanged a few sentences, and then we suddenly get some sort of epilogue.

However, the story is great. Would definitely recommend.

I started off loving this series! then not so much. I kept wanting to fast forward through it. I was halfway through the series, when I decided to read ahead and was completely thrown off by the character attitude dynamic. I don't want to give away too much, but the revelation of Hyun Bin's gender to the supposed love interest, Yoon Ha, was most definitely NOT as I would have wanted it to have happened. By the time, I had gotten to the ending, I was soo turned off by it that I didn't want to return.

So, moral of the story: It's really great, just don't skip to the end. Maybe your love for the characters and the ending will come to evolve (unlike mine:)

For whole series: (really quick)
I began reading this one and immediately fell in love with it! But the ending was completely disappointing! Hyu-bin was NOT supposed to fall in love with Ong! That was NOT supposed to happen!!! Argh!!! I couldn't believe it when she finally became a girl again and comes across Yae Ha and doesn't recognize him!!! Ohhh my word it was soooo maddening!! I could go on and on about my frustration! *sigh* but I guess they did end up getting together and it hints that their daughter gets with Ong's son that he never knew about! So really good! Loved it! Until the end..

This review is for the whole series:

It was a very heartwarming story with just the right amount of drama and romance. However, the ending was far too rushed, and there were too many 'love triangles' that didn't make sense. While the ending was not my favorite, the journey there was highly entertaining and worth the read.

I'm absolutely in love with Love in The Mask. I sure have my doubts at first and didn't like the illustrations but as I read on, and boy I'm glad I did, I found out how great of a story Han Yu-Rang has written. I'm surprised not many people knew about this story; with a story this good it should have been famous. Even though it has it's faults, I think the story itself has already made up for that. Therefore, I'm giving it five stars.

I honestly loved this series for a while. For most of it, it was really good and I felt that the two main characters really loved each other. But then coming to the end of the series the author decided to mess with us and completely ruin it. I'm so upset and disappointed after the ending that I don't think I'll be able to look at this book or any of the other ones the author has written in a long time. Read at your own risk.

Why are manwha's so violent?! I realize that the premise is a girl pretending to be a boy bodyguard and that there is bound to be fighting, but it always seems to be that fights crop up at every turn. I'll try the next volume and hope that it gets better since I know the series is already completed and it seemed to get favorable, albeit tear jerky, reviews.
