Lori Wilde can’t remember a time when she didn’t want to write. She even went to nursing school so she could have a schedule flexible enough to allow her to write on the side. She nursed for 20 years, working in a variety of settings from the newborn nursery to the recovery room, to dialysis. But she never lost her desire to write.

She sold her first book in 1994 to Silhouette Romance but later discovered she had a flair for comedy and branched out to Harlequin Duets and now, to Blaze.

Lori is an adventuresome soul who loves to travel. She’s taken flying lessons, completed two marathons, rode in a hot-air balloon, performed with a professional jazz band, traveled Europe as a teenager, hiked volcanoes in Hawaii, trod on glaciers in Alaska, shot white-water rapids, water-skied, snow-skied, raced all-terrain vehicles, bodysurfed in the Gulf of Mexico, and photographed grizzly bears in Yellowstone.

She lives in her native Texas, with her own real-life hero, Bill.

Brady Talmadge works with horses, rehabilitating the injured or the emotionally traumatized ones. He's always on the road, living in his trailer with his dog and spent his whole life avoiding entanglements. He learned the hard way to never pick up hitchhikers so why did he stopped for her?

Annie is not quite a runaway bride. She's a princess (of a fictional small European country) who ditched her bodyguards while attending a friend's wedding in Texas. Before her prearranged marriage in 6 weeks, Princess Annabella of Monesta is determined to lives like any Texan woman. With her temperamental Yorkshire Terrier at her side, she and Lady Astor are about to turn Brady's world upside down.

This Roman Holiday Texas version romance was a joy to read. I love witnessing the hero working with horses and see his patience and gentleness. The story took a turn I didn't expected but I think it made it that much better.

I really enjoyed the first book in the series. So I came into this with high expectations and probably that is my biggest problem here. The heroine in this story is the main flaw. Annabella is a sheltered princess who wants to spread her wings and fly. When she is invited to her friend’s wedding in America, she hops on the opportunity to ditch her bodyguards at the reception and hitch hike her way into Texas.

Brady Talmadge is a bit of a loner. He floats from town to town without a moment’s notice. His only passion is his job as a horse whisperer. He likes his life of solitude but he is about to have his little world shaken up when he picks up Princess Annabella of Monesta at a truck stop.

The story takes a while to pick up and I almost set it down but I normally like Ms. Wilde’s stories so I hung in there. Eventually the story picks up and all the wild and zany characters from the first book make appearances (readers get a glimpse at what happened to Mariah and Joe). Annabella stopped acting like a child and try to find her “fit” into their world. Brady’s story is so heart wrenching and the author shows how his past reflects into the man he is today…insecurities and all.

So after finally getting into the story, the author throws one or two bombshells (which I kind of discovered early on) into the mix and wrapped it up with a cheesy ending. My biggest problem with this book is that Brady doesn’t know she is from royalty until the end. How? He is constantly mentioning that she speaks as though she is far superior to others. Also, I find it hard to believe that she didn’t know some of the simplest terminology. Forget that she is from another country, there is television and they are in the present. How can she not know? Honestly, I just wish the author didn’t throw a far fetched idea such as a princess running away for weeks to live in the country and not execute it in a realistic manner.

Overall, though I didn’t love this book, I enjoyed certain aspects of it. I love revisiting the town of Jubilee and I look forward to the next book. The teaser at the end left me anticipating.

The Cowboy and the Princess by Lori Wilde
*ARC supplied by Publisher*

Take Audrey Hepburn’s “Roman Holiday” and set it in modern times and then to really make it interesting add cowboys, a horse whisperer and red-hot lust.

What really bothered me about this book is how I cried at the ending. I was literally sobbing during the scene when they are saying their good-byes. I mean how can we really expect a good resolution with a couple such as this? We are talking about a horse whisperer and the Princess of the second smallest country in the world! Moreover, she is engaged to marry the Prince of the smallest country in the world---one who happens to be much older than she is and then produce an heir! For the life of me, I could see no way this book could have had a resolution.

As you can tell by now, this is a novel about a Princess that wants to experience what the world and life is like if she weren’t a …well…Princess. One rainy night as Brady Talmadge is fighting the elements towards his next job, a job that has him staying with very close friends, he notices someone hitchhiking. This someone is small, pale and soaked and against his better judgment and the rules he has set up for himself, he picks this person up. Soon he realizes that he has picked up more than he bargained for! And so the story begins.

It is a slow paced but very interesting and well-written look at what cowboy life and the life in a small Texas town looks like to a sophisticated and quite naïve young lady. It is also a story about what happens to a relationship when full disclosure isn’t practiced on both of the couples part.
It is wonderful seeing how the sparks fly, but that that Ms Wilde chooses to not allow the characters to get ahead of themselves, as it were. Ms Wilde writes romance that is hot in the fact that the main characters don’t always jump on each other before a relationship blossoms.
So never fear, Ms Wilde does find a way to resolve the issue of the Princess and the Cowboy!

Have the tissues ready and have yourself a good cry and a wonderful read.

A really fun book. Annie is on the run from her responsibilities as a princess. She just wants a chance to be normal for a little while before she gets stuck in the planned political marriage. She is standing in the rain, looking pretty pathetic when Brady stops to pick her up. He plans to just leave her at a nearby truck stop and continue on his way, but ends up taking her along. He breaks all his self-imposed rules when he picks Annie up and knows she's going to be trouble. He takes her along to Jubilee where he will be working with Joe Daniels' horse (The Cowboy Takes a Bride). Annie ends up getting a job with Mariah's wedding planning business and living in a cabin on the property. Annie and Brady's intense attraction only grows as they spend more time together. Annie has made it clear she's only around for a short time, and Brady is clear on his avoidance of commitment. They enjoy each other's company and pretty soon their physical relationship is getting pretty intense. I really liked both Brady and Annie. Brady is pretty much a loner and avoids commitment by staying on the road with his horse whisperer job. He knows Annie is hiding something when he picks her up, but he can't just leave her. Her mix of naivete and sophistication are intriguing to him. He takes her along to Jubilee and as the next few weeks pass he gets to know her. He finds himself quite content staying in Jubilee and doesn't feel the urge to move on like he usually does. Just as things are intensifying with Annie he gets hit with a surprise that changes his outlook and his way of life. I loved Annie too. She is so completely clueless when Brady picks her up that it is pretty funny. Her confusion about American slang is fun to watch, and I love seeing her trying to adapt to Texas life. Her references to the movie Roman Holiday are great (it's one of my favorite movies). She really likes her life in Jubilee and doesn't want to go back, even though she knows she will have to. She falls in love with Brady, but when her time is up she leaves to go home to her wedding. There is a surprising twist waiting for her that was just what was needed for her happy ending. The people of Jubilee are still wonderful characters and add a lot to the story. And I loved Brady and Annie's dogs, Trampus and Lady Astor. They have their own little romance going on.

The Cowboy and the Princess had A LOT to live up to for me, after reading The Cowboy takes a Bride. Lori Wilde did not let me down. She writes smokin' hot, rangy cowboys, with fast moves and great hands, and I don't just mean when it comes to horses.

Annie and Brady are quite the pair. The had me laughing out loud one minute with their sexy banter and tearing up a few pages later when my heart was being broken to pieces.

From the second these two meet its chaos, but so much fun to watch it unfold. Annie, with her secrets about who she really is, and Brady with a few secrets of his own, but a pure white knight. All you have to do is read the scene when he meets Orchid for the first time, yeah, that completely solidified my whole-hearted love for him.

If you fell in love with Joe, Mariah and the rest of the crazy, cutting bunch from The Cowboy takes a Bride, you will be happy to know that they all make an appearance within The Cowboy and the Princess, a little innocent meddling never hurt anyone.

I highly recommend this book, as well as, the Cowboy takes a Bride. You can't go wrong with a few lonely, broken cowboys and the feisty women who won't leave them alone.

I enjoyed the story as a fairy tale that it was. Roaming horse whisperer meets and falls in love with Princess running away from her life of responsibilty. It was contrived, sweet, the characters likeable but just not a knock your socks off kind of book.

Once upon a time there was a princess who was tired of doing what she was told and having her life dictated to her. She would be getting married within a year to someone chosen for her, and she wanted some time to devote to herself before permanently giving up her freedom for the good of her country. So with the help of a good friend, Princess Annabella of Monesta ran away in hopes she'd have a grand adventure before returning to the royal reality that was her life. What she never could have imagined, however, was finding her Prince Charming in a little place called Jubilee.

Brady Talmadge was a horse whisperer who had no thoughts of settling down and planting roots. He was happy living out of his trailer going from job to job helping horses heal. But that was before he met the likes of Annie. What he never could have imagined, however, was her hitching her way into his life and later into his heart.
_______________________________________________________

This was a lighthearted read that was fun and sweet. Annie was as you'd expect her to be after living a sheltered life--quite naive. I loved how she was so excited about being out on her own and experiencing life on her terms. She really had no idea just how vulnerable a woman traveling alone could be. I kept wondering what kind of friend Anne had to not help her devise a better plan than hitchhiking for a ride in a rainstorm. Luckily, Brady realized the danger and decided to break some of the well warranted rules he'd established over 29 years. A code, if you will, he set up and lived by to avoid complications and protect himself.

Brady is another fun character. He doesn't see himself as the type to be in a long lasting relationship, and I feel that has something to do with his never being in a long lasting working relationship of any kind. He's got a great friend base, but has a knack for getting involved with the wrong women. Case in point: Princess Annabella, a woman engaged to a Prince. Luckily for him, in this case, the wrong one turned out to be the right one in the end. And when the right one comes along, not even the most devout of bachelors stands a chance.

The link of this book to The Cowboy Takes a Bride, the first book in the Jubilee Texas series, is Dutch Callahan. He'd given Brady a place to stay and a job fourteen years prior when Brady had runaway from home at age 15 and changed his life. In The Cowboy Takes a Bride, Dutch had just died. He had been a poor father to his daughter, Mariah, but was well thought of in Jubilee, Texas. I'm enjoying seeing the other side of Dutch that made him so beloved by the residents of Jubilee. It'll be interesting to see if Dutch is truly the tie that binds all the books in this series together because I think this would be a brilliant way to link the series together.

Ms. Wilde truly does have a beautiful writing style. I loved how she linked both Brady and Annie together at first sight by stating, "Their gazes meshed, their futures strangely entwined." Overall, I gave this one 3 1/2 of of 5 roses. It was a fun and entertaining read that made me smile. I feel this book would probably make for a great beach or poolside read. On the Lisarenee Romance Rating Scale, I gave this one a FAN rating - the temperature in the room seems to have suddenly gone up a couple of degrees and a fan would be nice.

Brady, doesn't like to be tied down, so he travels from town to town, healing horses. Brady just wants to feel freedom and not have to stick in one place. While heading to Jubilee, to do work for a friend, he sees a hitchhiker, he tells himself he will not bring one of his main rules, but when he sees its a woman, cold and wet with eyes that sear him...he is lost. Princess Annabella, has run away to have a few weeks of freedom before she is put in her prison of a marriage. All of her life she has craved freedom and do what she wants. She has no choice over the man she will marry, but she has a choice to live her dream even if for a little while. When she meets Brady, who rescues her, she is intrigued with his "lone wolf" personality. He seems just perfect for what she needs, but as they spend more time together, and a passion erupts, what is temporary, could turn into losing their hearts to one another...but will the secrets that both Brady and Annie are keeping tear them apart or tie them closer together?

The Cowboy and the Princess is the second installment in this series. I have recently come to love this author, and I am really falling in love with this series. I love my sexy cowboys...and Brady fits the bill in my book. This story is so what I needed...full of laughter, tender passion, and a sweet love story to curl your toes. I could hardly put this one down....the theme of this story is up my ally, and the conflict is so entrenched in the story, you can't keep but be involved in the story.

The story begins with Annie trying to hitch hike...and then meets a reluctant cowboy who takes her to have a bowl of chili, trying to hide from her bodyguards, she kisses him in front of everyone, and Brady is lost and he knows it. Brady is the type of hero that will resist anything that will have him settle down...especially gorgeous women who are damsels in distress. Brady I fell in love with, I love the way we see a portion of his thoughts in the book, and he argues with himself and its quite humorous and adds a delightful flavor to the story. I loved Annabelle, she is very unique, and far different from other heroines that this author has written. She is a princess, and doesn't understand certain "common sense" and its make for a fun spin to the style of the story. Even though I am not a huge fan of dogs in real life, I adore seeing them in books....and these two dogs in this story were charming and fun, and it was quite a ball of delight to see how they fit into the plot and the unique relationship with Brady and Annie.

Overall a tasty western romance to make you want to yell "Yee Haw" at the end. Sexy cowboys, naive and sheltered royal, dogs to give you a head spin, and a story to keep you guessing and captivated till the end....gives a whopper of a surprise that will give you thrills from head to toes!!! SATISFYINGLY SWEET AND CHARMING!!

The Princess and the Cowboy is the second book in the Jubilee, Texas series. However, it isn't necessary for you to have read the first book. These two books can stand alone.

Brady Talmadge is a cowboy with a dark past contributing to his five unbreakable rules. At the age of fifteen, Brady ran away from an abusive home and ended up being taken in by Dutch Callahan of Jubilee, Texas. Dutch taught Brady how to take care of horses. Over the course of fourteen years, Brady became so good he became known as "The Horse Whisperer", for his ability to heal and rehabilitate injured horses.

Princess Annabella (Annie) is a twenty four year old princess scheduled to be married off to Prince Theodore of Dubinstein, a man she does not love, but feels it is her royal duty to. Throughout Annie's entire life, she has lived a very quiet, extremely closed off, sheltered life behind the walls of Farrington Palace. With her marriage fast approaching, Annie and her friend, Echo, come up with a plan to get Annie her six week adventure of a lifetime, before she settles down.

Every girl dreams of being a princess, when they're young. This story is what happens when the princess just wants to be an ordinary girl, loved and cared for simply because she is herself and NOT a princess. What would you do, if you were offered everything you didn't even know you wanted? Would your life still be a fairy tale come true? With The Cowboy and the Princess, you will find out.

One of my favorite quotes from the book is, "Everyone is scared. Bravery is being scared and doing what you have to do anyway."

This book is full of surprises. Just when you think you have things figured out, think again. The Cowboy and the Princess is funny and tear jerking at the same time.

I will admit this review was hard for me to write, without giving away spoilers. I really enjoyed this book. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series A Cowboy for Christmas and going back to read the first book, The Cowboy Takes a Bride.

I received this book from the author, with the hopes that I would read and post a review.

Most romance novels cannot be accused of excessive realism, and Lori Wilde's The Cowboy and the Princess is no exception; as a matter of fact is is more unrealistic than most. He is a loner, but a man with lots of friends who love him. He doesn't want to settle down and doesn't think he is worthy of being loved. However, he has a way with horses. She's a princess from some small European country. She is supposed to marry the prince of another small European country in six weeks. It is a political match, not a love one, and she wants just one chance to be "normal" before her wedding. Her chance comes when the daughter of the ex-President of the US gets married. She goes to the compound to attend the wedding, and, with the help of the President's daughter, slips away from her bodyguards. She is on the highway hitchhiking when he picks her up. He takes her to a small town in Texas and she settles in for six weeks, taking a job in the store of a friend of his--oh, and he and she decide to have a fling. Each tells the other that s/he doesn't want anything more than a short fling, but along the way.... In the end they get their happily ever after but the ending is even more far-fetched than the beginning.

Despite the far-fetched beginning and ending the middle is a really good story with strong characters. Anne has spent her whole life wanting to do what other kids do--get dirty, go to carnivals, eat concession stand food, but she was a princess and had to act like one, all the time. It must have been fun for Brady to see the wonder in her eyes as she experience all these new things in Texas. He was obviously curious about where she came from but he gave her the space she needed. It takes them a while, but eventually they are intimate before marriage, and while this is not the most explicit book I've ever read, I'd by no means put it in the "clean" romance category.

I'd like to thank the publisher for making a review copy available via Edelweiss. I was not obligated to write a positive review. Grade: B

I pre ordered this book, and well, it is a mixed bag. My pre order was based on Wilde's last book that included a teaser chapter. I was intrigued by the teaser, so I went ahead with the order. First, Texas cow boy stories are not my usual fare, nor are run away princess stories. But, I gave it a shot. The biggest issues that I had with this is how it all wrapped up. The princess wants to be "normal". Ok. All of us "normal" folks have all kinds of hang-ups, they're just not on public display for everyone to see. Also, there is the undercurrent that people who are born as royalty will stay royal, while those who aren't to the palace born can't fit in there. That premise really bugged me. Where you're from, your family dynamic, and how you're raised contributes to a person equally, sometimes if not more, than genetics. That whole thing of royalty being fundamentally different didn't ring true, to me. Also, the princess is kind of a door mat. She accepts some things from the hero's past is a hard pill to swallow for anyone in general. That part didn't ring true to me, either.

What Wilde does well is create a tapestry of secondary characters, move the story along, and have some very witty dialoge in between. The hero is a gentleman, and, well, if his past didn't rear it's ugly head, would be considered dating material. I like how he had changed by the end of the book, and we really go to know his motivations for his actions. I'm not sure if I will read the next in this series or not, but it was an entertaining way to spend an evening.

The Cowboy and the Princess is a book that grows on you until you can’t put it down. This delightful mix of The Horse Whisperer and Roman Holiday make for a fun, small town cowboy story.

Princess Annabella of Monesta has 6 weeks until she weds a balding, playboy prince who she is betrothed to. She and her dog Lady Astor escape the life of luxury and are rescued by a cowboy named Brady Talmadge and his dog. He ends up buying her chili at a truck stop and then taking them with him to Jubilee, TX where he has a job to work with a horse that was injured. Annie (Princess Annabella) soon settles in and gets her own place and a job in town. She and Brady slowly fall for each other but the secret she is keeping comes in between them.

This sweet, lighthearted read has a twist at the end that I was not expecting. The romance was a bit slow paced but I fell in love with characters and their dogs! The Cowboy and the Princess is the second in the Jubilee, Texas series. I have not read the first in the series but I never felt that I was missing anything. This is a great standalone book and I recommended it to anyone who loves a cowboy romance!

I was beside myself with joy when I scored an Arc of The Cowboy and the Princess, Book 2 in Lori Wilde’s Jubilee, Texas series. I had just finished The Cowboy Takes a Bride which is book 1, I had fallen in love with all the character’s in the book and not just Mariah and Joe ( who are the two main characters).
The Cowboy and The Princess is your typical Wilde book in terms of writing and the setting. I will say that the princess story has been overdone or should I say had been; I thought they threw out princess stories back in the 80’s when authors couldn’t invent anymore fictional kingdoms/countries. I mean, I think it’s really farfetched in the 21st century to imagine royalty running away from their life for weeks on end even if it is to have an adventure outside what they are used to. Am I the only one who thinks this?
I would totally blast this plot line if it were any other author than Lori Wilde. I think she is a true western author who can make anything seem real, and even though I really did not like book 2; I am looking forward to the next in this series.

THe beginning and the ending were what kept me from really likeing this book. It was good...in the middle.

I'm always a little leary about modern day princesses. The world is so small now that any fictionalized country ends up feeling completely fake and by extension, the princess seems fake.

In the middle of the book though, I was able to suspend my disbelief and the story and the characters became real. Real people, with real problems and feelings.

Then came the ending. Talk about abrupt and a little disappointing. Why did there have to be the big secret, that she wasn't really a princess. Is it so hard to belive that a girl might choose love over a life in the spotlight. It gave her an out and she didn't really have to make the hard decision. It was little disappointing.

Overall, I did like the book, the middle part anyway.

As much as I enjoyed the jubilee universe, I absolutely was annoyed out of my mind by Annie in this book and figured out the plot about 10 pages in. I liked Brady and the rest of jubilee enough to keep reading and have it save the book, but the stilted way Annie was written drove me crazy. I know it was supposed to be purposeful because she was a princess and out of place but it just missed the mark and came off annoying.

I wanted to read something last night (you know instead of sleeping, b/c who does that) but didn't want to spend any money and all the e-books I wanted from my library had hold lists on them. I picked this at random from my libraries e-books just to have something to fall asleep to. In the end I finished it before giving sleep a good college try. It would normally be more of a 3 star, but it was so much better than I was expecting that I'm going with 4.

I had never read of any of this author's work, but found this at the library, and figured I'd take a chance. Well -- it was OK. Annie, the princess, seemed rather flat through the story; and honestly, I can't imagine modern European royalty speaking or acting the way she does. Brady, the cowboy, was a more interesting character, but still pretty cardboard.

I cannot read any more books about princes or princesses from random European countries who manage to get out of layers of security. Crazy how she speaks un-accented english. Crazy how her country seems to be monaco, as all of these princes and princesses seem to come from monaco.
Good for you, if you like this trope, but I hate it.

Take away some the more steamy scenes towards the end of this book and it's pretty much a classic Hallmark Movie of the runaway princess who falls in love with a commoner, that's been done so many times before. The author even references the old Audrey Hepburn movie Roman Holiday as our heroine Princess Annabelle's blueprint to temporarily escape her life as a royal and see how the little people live. Although our hero Brady's tragic childhood lends a little darkness to what is otherwise a pretty fluffy, predictable romance story it's still an enjoyable, quick read for fans of romance. You have a sweet princess and an honorable, handsome cowboy, cute dogs, supportive friends, all the ingredients you need for a fun read. I'll give it 3 stars but its just been done too many times before to rate it higher.

I loved this book. I love the characters. Brady and Anne found each other.

Ann is running away. She is a princess but wants sometime to find herself. Brady finds her on the side of the road in the rain.

He takes her in and they start to get close.
They are getting to know each other. Brady learns that he has a daughter. Then Ann tells him who she is. They separate when she has to marry the arranged marriage.
But Rosalind tell her that she is her mother. Then Rosalind calls Brady and they come up with a plan.

He arrives in time to stop the wedding and asks Ann who she wants to be with. She chooses him.
They got back home to Jubilee and they have that love they found there in the little cabin.

Anne and Brady belong together. They found a way.

He is a cowboy with no roots and she is a runaway princess. What can happen when she is hitchhiking in the rain and he picks her up? He breaks all his own rules. They both agree this is just a fling...no promises...no commitments. But things have a habit of not going as planned. I loved every minute of this book and was sad for it to end. You will have to read it to find out what happens between Brady and Annie.

I would give this 3.5 stars because I did enjoy the story but it was a fairytale that has made up Harlequin Romances from the beginning. The princess wanted an adventure before having to marry for political reasons. She ran away from where she was staying in Texas and was picked up by Brady who is a horse whisperer with five really rules for his life. In the course rescuing Anne, he broke all five rules but all’s well that ends well. Cute read

This is an easy read with a likeable MMC and a sweet but sometimes too innocent FMC. That said, her innocence needs to work for the princess trope to work.

There was a good progression of the story and both characters had developmental milestones. I must say I was surprised by the MMC's character arc and there was a not-foreseen twist in her FMC. I think those twists saved the book.

Overall, a good, light read for those who enjoy a low-sexual tension romance.

This was an OK read , but it was too sweet and too simple. She is a runaway princess , hiding in a village in Texas, pretending she is someone else, trying to live a normal life for at least those couple of weeks before she has to get married to a prince she dislikes … She falls in love with a Texan…
The ending is too easy, all the conflicts resolved simply and perfectly…. Also HIM finding out he has a baby was very random and unnecessary!
