It’s the dog days of summer and Winterspell is going through town psychics faster than a werewolf sheds its fur after a full moon. And let’s hope we don’t have one of those on our tail. I’m supposed to be planning my wedding, but when a good deed leads me to the scene of a murder, my priorities take a sudden detour. The investigation is off to a rocky start, especially when Sheriff Templeton is quick to dismiss the death as nothing more than a tragic accident. However, the psychic's dog has a different tale to tell, insisting it was murder most foul. Under threat of being put back on diet kibble, Selene must swallow her pride long enough to work paw-in-paw with our canine informant to sniff out the truth. With suspects piling up faster than empty wine bottles at a bachelorette party, we’re racing against time to piece together the puzzle before the trail goes cold. But with a prickly sheriff breathing down our necks and wedding plans demanding my attention, can we find the killer before they strike again? Or will this doggone mystery prove too much for even the sassiest of feline familiars?
Mystic Meow is the latest magical cozy mystery in the Nine Lives Magic series by Danielle Garrett. These enchanting tales are full of hijinks, humor, and heart. The purr-fect read for anyone who wanted to adopt Salem from Sabrina the Teenage Witch.
I absolutely adore Selene and her sassy attitude, because that is how I imagine my cat to be, lol. She is forever, finding ways to get herself and Cora into trouble yet they always manage to find a way out and solve the latest mystery.
Great story and epic reveal, this reads like a scooby doo episode. I feel like the second to last chapter of these books should be the ending because after the plot resolves we always circle back to the romance cringe and it's been 3 books in a row like that?
This book wasn't as good as some of the prior ones in this series. I got the feeling that the author was just filling in time and space before the last book in the series.

The wedding is coming up, the renovations are underway, and Selene is investigating again. This time she ropes in Lavendar and Checkers. Wanting to distract Lavendar, Selene decides to start a podcast about solving murders. She thinks the boyfriend is a good suspect but the truth shocks them all.
Loved being back with the gang. Cant wait to see Cora get married!
Wile I feel for Selene, I would find it very difficult to put up with her snarkiness all the time. I hope Cora finds a solution that work for both of them.
* I like the addition of Pippin along with Checkers.
* The crime was interesting to solve with some left turns.
🚫 Negatives: * I'm incredibly sick and tired of this author labeling things that aren't abusive as abusive. She clearly has no idea what she's talking about. The author really needs to take a minute and talk with abuse survivors before using that term again. The cat is hilariously sassy and sometimes mean but not abusive in the slightest. Abuse is nonstop, vile degrading and mind control. It's constantly eating away at the person's soul until the person believes and is entirely dependent upon the abuser, along with being fully separated from family and friends. Does the cat tear Cora away from her family and friends? No. Does the cat constantly make vile comments about Cora to eat away at her soul? No. Does the cat make sure that Cora is dependent upon her entirely? Not at all. Good Lord, learn about abuse before using the term flippantly in your books!
The worst part is, degrading the term abuse to just a sassy cat also degrades abuse survivors everywhere. Don't use that term again unless you're actually talking about an abusive situation.
* The first half is incredibly slow. It's like the story is operating at a snail's pace.
* Cora's lack of a backbone is annoying. Is it bad if I really don't like the main character?
⚡Trigger Warning: Abuse is mentioned yet again, and again it isn't abuse in the slightest. The talking cat is sassy and opinionated but not abusive.
🌟 Overall, I didn't care much for this book. It felt like filler at best. Pippin is a nice addition and it was neat seeing more of Aunt Lavender. Thing is, Cora is fairly annoying. She doesn't have a backbone at all and is mean over small things. I think I agree with the other reviews on GoodReads in that I pretty much only read this series for Selene alone.
I'm still pretty ticked over the author demeaning abuse to a sassy black cat. It's obvious how she doesn't have a clue on what's she is talking about. Wish she would take a few minutes and actual research terms before using them.
Still deciding if it's worth it to read the next book. We'll see.
Still hope Clint dies. I am not a fan of the main character anymore since book two. I am not a fan of kids, family, or weddings and this is all about the main character planning a huge wedding and all about her wedding dress. She's not a virgin why a wedding dress or a big wedding?
She continues to ignore Selene the familiar. And I hate that narcissist aunt Lavender and I still don't understand why the family thinks she's so amazing.
I try to skim over the non mystery parts because I am only interested in the mystery and if the main character is going to be all mommy in the future and crap can we just have the cats Selene and Chester on a case rather than the humans? Just get rid of them.
And a word of advice. I thought I would really like this series after reading book one and I thought since there was a Christmas one coming out this year I thought why not just buy all the books I could and binge read and have the Christmas one for reading during the Holidays.
So I wasted over $100 buying paperbacks. Don't do this. I am not a fan of ebooks since they are so easily alterable and deleted by the company you buy from and I thought I would really like this series but ended up not. So, just get the ebooks and if you really like the series then start collecting physical copies second hand if possible.
With Cora’s wedding upcoming, she needs to find a dress and ASAP-after sending back every one so far! When a psychic dies and the police labeled it as an accident, the crew go into overdrive, because they believe it was murder. Cora only gets involved, because when she’s out running she finds a dog and tries to find its home. They come across the scene and are pretty sure that’s where the dog lives. They don’t feel Mystical Mae, the new psychic in town, had an accident. They think she was murdered. Lots of new things happening in this book. I think you’ll like it.
I loved this newest addition to the series! It had a great storyline with some interesting twists and turns. The characters were also very interesting. The addition of Pippen will be fun to see evolve into a full time character. I would also like to see Cora and Selene develop a more respectful relationship with each other. I can't wait to see what becomes of the talk that Cora is going to have with Selene about their relationship. Can't wait for the next book!!
The wedding dress has been cancelled. Selene is still selling stuff and I can't understand why she doesn't stop that since it's already caused trouble.
She finds a missing dog and takes it to the owner's house but the problem is the owner is dead. Mystic Mae.
There's some breaking into a house, some people we know being put into jail and somebody who is not who they claim to be. This all gets worked out, of course. They is still the problem of what to do with Pippin, the dog, and how can she and Selene ever reconcile their differences?
I'll say 4.25- better than the previous book but not as good as the first few. I like Checkers the cat a lot and was glad he was in this book. Again, Lavender just kind of annoys me with how rude/mean she can be to everyone. This was a pretty interesting mystery and while I saw the girlfriend as the murdered from the get go, I didn't see it being a mistaken identity situation. Moving on to the last book and it seems my plans for Clint to turn into a bad guy are foiled....although I'm glad Cora has progressed so much over the books.

I ended up taking a break from this series after the sixth book and was looking forward to picking it back up. I feel like, at this point, the relationship between these two is so hot and cold that I'm getting frustrated. They just seem so incompatible, and at this point, it would be nice to see something change. The story was still good, interesting, and easy to read. The characters are still great. I do enjoy the books, but it's feeling like a lot of the same thing. I know there's more, but we'll see how I feel after the next book and if I need another break.
It’s a few months after the previous book ended. Cora and Clint are working on their wedding plans and Selene is continuing to build her business. It’s one night after work and Cora and Selene are walking home when they stumble across a dog. After investigating they find the dog, Pippin, belongs to the new psychic Mystic Mae. It turns out Mae was found dead by her ex after hitting her head and drowning in the pool. It’s up to Cora and Selene to figure out what really happened to Mae after her familiar lets Selene know something was wrong at the time of her death.
You have got to love Selene. She is a cat to be recognize for her snarky comments. She can also come up with too many ideas that is so funny and could be a great plan. But there is a murder and of course Selene is in the middle of it and drags Cora with her. Now that there is a dog named Pippin in the picture Selene is determined to get the dog to the pound. Oh, the suspects are growing by leaps and bound. Cora and Clint ate planning their wedding and Cora cannot decide on a dress and time is drawing near. Can Cora and Selene catch the killer before some else dies.
Another episode in the life of Cora, creator of enchanted candles in the little magical town of Winterspell. Wedding plans are somewhat disturbed by the death of a local psychic; the sheriff declares it an accidental death, but Mystic Mae’s familiar, Floyd, insists she was killed. Cora and her crew of fiancé, relatives, and familiars investigate and get to the truth of the matter. The series is charming, the town delightful, and the core characters are a fun lot to read about. On to the next book.
I laughed out loud several times, I love Selene! The local psychic is found dead and it’s being ruled an accident. But is it? Or is it something more nefarious? Selene is adamant! Her dealings with Pippin the dog were soooo funny! And Pippin the dog is such a cutie. And Checkers, how adorable is he? And smarter than Selene gives him credit for, LOL! A great book, a true pageturner!
Another home run on this book. It was exciting and fun. Lots of twists and turns. A lot of suspects to keep you guessing. Lots of familiars antics. I laughed out right so many times that I startled my husband or woke him up. This was such a fun read even if someone had to kick the bucket to do it. Nice romance mixed in too which I like. I'm starting the next book now. Enjoy. Kathy
A Winterspell psychic is found drowned in her pool with a head wound. Inspector Templeton maintains accidental death, but the familiar of the dead women talks to Selene and tells her it wasn’t an accident. Seems the new girlfriend of Marcus was the cousin of the victim and wanted revenge because her cousin stole her crystal ball. Selene and Cora try to form a more tolerant and civil relationship. Thank goodness!

4.25 This one was a little boring. Even though it was a fast listen I felt like it dragged a little. I was also a little disappointed that one of the new characters was killed off. There were some silly parts that didn’t quite flow as I had thought it should. It did move the bigger story along and I was glad that Cora didn’t drag her feet with the wedding. Overall the story still flowed as it should.
Selene was in fine, sarcastic, totally rude, form. And her hidden agenda for why she was embarking on this investigation was just so sneaky! Cora is reaching the end of her patients. I don’t know how she puts up with Selene. Especially while she’s trying to run her business and plan her wedding. But it does make for a fun read!!
I love all the main characters, but there emotional growth in this book is terrific. So glad that Clint got a pet and isn't left out of the furry fun anymore. Each book in the series teaches you more about each of the main characters and makes you fail a little more in love with them.
This was an excellent book. It has new characters who play an important part in the story. But the main question is: Who killed Mae- the psychic? Cora has her thoughts about Mae's murder which the sheriff thought was an accident until Mae familiar tells them differently. The investigation ensued. The book to me is pretty fast-reading. I enjoyed it and recommend it.
I really enjoyed reading the next book in this series. I liked how Cora, her familiar Selene, her husband-to-be Clint, her Aunt Lavender & her familiar, Checkers helped to solve the murder of Magical Mae. I would recommend to this book to anyone who likes these kind of mysteries.
4.75 out of 5 Stars: I loved that this one was a murder mystery compared to the others. The antics with Selene and Aunt Lavender along with Checker's love of ice cream and rambling were everything. The plot twists are really good and I didn't see it coming along with the final description of Cora's dress. These books are so fun and I am dying of hope that these will become a TV series.
Ora and Selene and a full crew are hunting for clues in yet another adventure in Winterspell. Ora is trying to finish off her wedding to do list when everything is turned upside down by her infamous familiar.
Take a bit of time to relax and join the crew as they hunt for the evidence needed to prove their case has merit.
Once more, Danielle Garrett has created another entertaining and enjoyable story.
Cora's familiar, Selene, is up to her usual antics and is driving crazy with her attitude and demands. However, Cora and co still jump in to support her when she insists an accidental death is actually a murder.
I listened to this book from my library. Definitely, not the best in the series. I felt it was more like a place holder until the wedding and probably the end of this series.
We learn more about Selene and what makes her tick. Which for me softened her abrasiveness.
