Miles Rozak

Miles Rozak's got a blaster cannon tucked under his bed that he built with plans from a ship that cratered in his backyard.

As you can tell, his imagination's been cooking since an early age. At 18 months old, Mom says he'd draw pictures until falling asleep.

Age 6, he teared up watching Darth Vader's sacrifice in ROTJ.

A love for sci-fi blossomed soon after.

Like in junior high, when he wrote a screenplay involving a robot that upon filming, earned a call to police from the neighbors. (For the record, that gun was a prop.)

Decades later, not much has changed.

Except he's now focused on books (to avoid run-ins with the authorities).

Looking back, Miles credits his Mom for keeping him stocked with crayons, Dad for reading the greats aloud, Wife for input, Readers for motivation, and God for the creative spark.

Sorry dude - you’re on your own for the rest of the series. Bad story, bad writing, badly drawn characters.

It was like getting a disappointing hamburger at a diner. The picture of it on the menu looks great but what you get served is cold and on a stale bun.

"Starship Found, Child Missing" by Miles Rozak is a gripping sci-fi audiobook that takes listeners on an exhilarating journey through space and time. Narrated by the talented Tom Taylorson, this 2023 release is the first book in the "Alien Ship for Sale" series.

The story follows Tyson Gage, a former U.S. Marine, who discovers a starship on the same night his 4-year-old son goes missing. Determined to find his son, Tyson embarks on a mission to become a galactic bounty hunter, collecting loot and upgrades to mount a rescue. The narrative is set 800 years in the future, where Tyson must navigate a universe filled with aliens, criminals, and hyperspace dangers.

One of the standout aspects of the audiobook is the engaging characters. Tyson Gage is a relatable and determined protagonist, driven by his love for his son. The supporting cast, including his loyal dog and a beautiful yet enigmatic woman, adds depth and complexity to the story. The chemistry between the characters, especially Tyson and the woman, creates a dynamic that keeps listeners invested in their journey.

The world-building in "Starship Found, Child Missing" is impressive, with Rozak blending military realism and science fiction seamlessly. The futuristic technology and alien species are described in a way that feels both grounded and awe-inspiring. The author's attention to detail ensures that the universe he creates is rich and immersive, making listeners feel like they are part of the adventure.

Tom Taylorson's narration is superb, bringing the characters and the world to life with his expressive voice and perfect pacing. His ability to convey the emotions and tension of the story enhances the listening experience, making it easy to become fully absorbed in the narrative.

Although the book has an action-packed plot, engaging characters, and well-crafted world, it does feel more like the universe from Star Trek, where humans appear to have advanced to the point of having an intergalactic federation. However, it is still a nice blend of military realism and science fiction.

In conclusion, "Starship Found, Child Missing" is a good listen for sci-fi enthusiasts and anyone who enjoys a thrilling adventure. With its compelling story, well-developed characters, and excellent narration, it's a standout audiobook that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats until the end.

Great storyline!

I never I would read space operas, let alone enjoy them. This one caught my eye with its title. The characters are well developed and I'm eager to read how they grow as they travel on their next adventures.

Disappointing book. Cardboard characters that are not even likable cardboard cutouts. As for the main character, well Tess should have heeded the warning signs and saved herself lots of grief - the guy is not worth it. The idea for the story is a good one, but the situations get increasingly more ridiculous as the story goes on. I really tried, but with less than 100 pages left I just could not force myself to read any longer. When I checked the end, I found I had predicted correctly. Not recommended.

Not What I Expected

The storyline starts well but as it develops it shifts into endless battles with new technologies which our Earth born protagonist is somehow always proficient with. The battles don’t really make sense in my opinion and the story mostly gets lost in all the conflict.

It's ok. Very similar to other authors

The storyline is so similar to others that it losses some of its appeal
The characters are interesting however the development of them is a tad predictable
It has potential, I hope subsequent books make the story more unique

I have long been a fan of Miles Rozak and his brand of true-to-life storytelling. Starship Found, Child Missing book 1, Alien Ship for Sale, grabs you on the first page and never lets you go.

Fifty miles from nowhere in the Canadian wilderness, with an aging service German Shepherd named Maggie and a 4-year-old named Oliver (Ollie), our story opens when strange noises in the middle of the night get the dog stirred up.

Within a very short number of paragraphs, something really, really strange - and potentially deadly -happens, and Ollie is injured. The next thing you know, our main character Tyson Gage is trying to get help for Ollie when he stumbles upon what he thinks is a movie set... but everything is a little off. Including the best movie-set prop starship he's ever seen or experienced. Truly a WTF moment as he's desperately seeking help for Ollie, who has a serious injury.

Gage bumps into Tess and about 9 or 10 other people from the local town, all seeking help. He met Tess the day before at a local diner. As luck would have it, she's a surgeon and can help Ollie, which she does. But suddenly, Gage is attacked.

Fast forward about 800 years...

Everything Gage knew, including the Earth, is gone. He must fight to survive. He must fight to get Ollie back, who has been kidnapped. Truly a fish out of the water, Gage must learn about this big, wide galaxy he finds himself in, and starting from 0, he has to soldier on to rescue Ollie.

Being a former marine, albeit with his share of baggage, as a parent who has lost his wife and his father - and now everyone else he was related to or knew - his sole mission is rescuing his beloved son.

This is enough story for anyone. But as Gage becomes a bounty hunter, to whom all other concerns except rescuing Ollie are secondary, and starts to learn his way around a hybrid human-alien galaxy, instantaneous hyperspace travel, and the foibles of both humans and aliens, I found myself unable to put this newest Miles Rozak novel down.

Miles has a knack for hooking the reader, keeping the interest level high, causing the reader to want to know what happens next, and writing in the first person outstandingly.

His characters are realistic, true-to-life, and so humanly flawed. And in this case, even the non-humans have certain ticks and tells that make them leap off the pages at you.

As a long-time fan of Miles Rozak, I have read everything he's written to this point, and like a fine wine, his vintage improves with each new work he undertakes.

There are no downsides here, only upsides. With Gage's unique perspective and approach to the world around him, his love for Maggie and his work with her, his fear of getting involved with Tess, as he thinks it will distract him from rescuing Ollie, and his rapid climb from zero to hero, this book leaves nothing wanting.

I am sleep deprived from inhaling it as fast as possible while trying to function. This is a winner, and I'm already onboard for Book 2 and Book 3. I look forward to learning more about Tess in the next book and seeing where things go with Tess and Gage. You're probably wondering: Does Gage rescue his son? No spoilers from me. If you want to find out, you'll have to read it!

This one is a no-brainer. Between the fantastic world-building and the taken-from-life characters, and the outstanding plot lines and storytelling, this one is a clear winner. Go Ahead - hit that button. You'll be glad you did. Remember, you will be along for the whole series if you enjoyed this as much as I did.

Searching for Ollie . . .

U.S. Marine Tyson Gage heard his German Shepherd dog Maggie growl at the door. The news had reported an armed killer, Lester Regan, escaped from the maximum security center and was in the area. Tyson realized his cabin would lure the killer there. Maggie turned to the windows to continue barking, then back to the door where she bristled. The windows were oddly lighted. Then Oliver, his 4-year-old, called down from the loft. Tyson preferred isolation after his military service since any sudden sounds could trigger him into imagining threats where there were none. There was too much death in his life already.

He and Oliver had met a woman at lunch, Tess, and invited her to sit with them. He knew he didn’t want to start anything, yet he couldn’t get her off his mind and actually had saved her texts which tempted him. Ready now to delete them, he heard a rustling noise outside and went tense. It was 2 a.m. and he made sure his gun was loaded. Then he told Ollie to go back to sleep while he took Maggie outside. Unfortunately, the door blew open, Maggie ran outside, and Ollie was right behind her before Tyson caught them. Then he saw a man coming toward them in the deep snow. Then a ball of fire moved across the sky and Tyson was reliving parts of the war. Black shards fell from the sky and Ollie was unconscious on the ground. A piece of the hot black stone was embedded in his thigh. And while caring for Ollie, the stranger walked up holding his gun. With Maggie ready to attack, he took the magazine out and handed the now harmless gun to Tyson. Ollie was still bleeding, so he had to go for help. But the car no longer started. His phone was dead too. As he tries to find help, he came upon a sort of movie set and gets unexpected help from Tess Rodriguez who is a surgeon. And she had been inside the spaceship! They ran back inside to use the Med Bay stocked with supplies to help Ollie. Something didn’t feel right, but now was not the time to start fussing and asking questions. Ollie was stable and resting, and Pell took Tyson to look at the ship. Tyson saw the odd pistol he had seen earlier and knew the man was lying. But before he could do anything, something struck the back of his head and he passed out, waking up in space! That was not a movie set. It was real! And Tyson was taken to a separate spaceship, away from Ollie, and put in a cell. His captors were Centurion Thaddeus Oxhorn and Centurion Mercedes Jain from Task Force Cyberblade in pursuit of Pell, but Tyson and others were ejected and they had to rescue them first.

Now Ollie is missing and Earth is gone. His only way of finding his son is to become a galactic bounty hunter – 800 years in the future -- and search until he finds him. Maggie, Tyson, Tess, and Bond become a crew to work together. Tyson may be headed for greatness one day to become a hero, but will they ever find Ollie? This story never slows down as the reader tries to make sense of what is going on. Excitement, suspense, some humor, and incredible actions will keep the reader fully involved in this wonderful story. I’m pretty sure I may have stopped breathing a few times, but that’s perfectly normal with this kind of action! Grab your copy and be ready for excitement that never ends!

Good start to a series. Interesting characters, pretty good plot.

But I had some bumps along the way. First off, why isn't Gage more forthcoming when he is rescued?

Why isn't finding his son at any cost the first priority?

I understand why he couldn't, and why that basically sets up the plot. But I sure thought the whole thing could have been handled with the son being the center, the reason he's doing everything he's doing. That may have been the reason but it wasn't held in the forefront. The action, the shooting, the running away, the learning how to fight, making allies - all those and the details surrounding them seemed to be the focus. And that's fine, it was all good. But if you're going to set up the plot the way Rozak did, I just thought more emphasis needed to be placed on the reason for the plot. Especially when you have a reason like that. This feels much more like "I've been kidnapped and I have to survive," rather than "my child has been kidnapped and I will stop at nothing to rescue him."

Well regardless it's still a decent story. The cast of characters is shaping up and somebody important died for a good reason, plus it's well told. So that's enough for me to keep going with the series. I hope it just keeps getting better and better. But I also hope that in the next book we move on from trying to save the 4-year old to another challenge. Because that little boy needs his dad.

Tom Taylorson was fantastic - he seems to have a somewhat limited list of accents, but I've listened to a lot of his books and he does them all flawlessly. I think I'd rather have a short list of ones done exceptionally well than a long list of ones badly done.

Fantastic tale! The scene is so well set, it draws us in immediately. I was there on the edge of my seat only a few minutes into the book and the rest of the story follows in the same vein.

I love how the new scenes are often a big surprise. My brain goes tilt, in a good way, as I try to figure out what is happening, much like the character who also doesn't know what's going on. There are many wonderful characters along the way and while our main character goes through his progression and development, it isn't a main focus and doesn't become THE story like it does in so many books.

The emphasis is more on the main character experiencing his new existence and focusing on his main goal. The relationship things that happen and his own angst are peripheral to that which I like a lot. It makes this story more experiential than emotional. It works out very well for this tale.

The world in which the story takes place develops with the book and even though there is some complexity there, it is not overwhelming or confusing. Well, it is a bit confusing in a couple of areas, but I just went with it figuring it will become clear later in the story.

The book ends on a perfect note, with the adventures of this first book complete and the setup for the next book right there encouraging the reader to grab the next book to find out what happens to everyone!

An ex Marine travels space and time to recover his stolen child

Tyson Gage, former Marine, now guitar maker, is awakened from sleep by a huge meteor striking ground near his home. He, his son Oliver (Ollie) and his 15 year old pooch Maggie wander outside to find a spaceship parked and machinery carrying a huge meteor up into the ship's cargo bay. Ollie has been injured, but a striking blond named Tess claims to be a doctor and cares for him aboard the ship while the director of the movie, Steve Pell, being made. He shows Tyson around the movie set until Tyson is struck in the back of his head, knocking him out. When he wakes up, he is in a spacesuit floating in space. Rescued by another spaceship, Tyson finds himself 872 years in the future, his son gone, the director Steve Pell is actually Sarmonicus Pell, wanted fugitive, and he has Oliver! Where, why, and how, he will find out! But for now, Tess is his only acquaintance in an unknown future!

Great characters and a smooth storyline will surely answer all questions. Maybe. But there will be more questions! Many more! And they all lead up to a thrilling cliffhanger! This is a good read!

This one sits firmly in the “pulpy but fun” zone. The premise has enough spark to keep the pages turning, and for the most part the ride is enjoyable. The characters are serviceable. Nothing groundbreaking, but they do their job well enough to carry the story forward.

Where the book stumbles is in the execution. Early on, and well into the middle, the writing leans heavily on over-explaining how every gadget, system, or bit of research links back to present-day Earth. It’s not that the details are bad, just that they’re delivered with a kind of enthusiastic hand-holding that slows the rhythm. By the time the ending rolls around, the issue shifts: the phrasing gets a bit repetitive and the prose feels a touch rushed or lazy in places.

And then there’s the titular child missing. The emotional hook is solid, but the story keeps circling back to it so insistently that it feels like the author is worried the father might forget, let alone the reader. Subtlety is not the mission here.

All that said, it’s still not a bad read. Just uneven. If you’re after something light, pacey, and sci-fi-pulp, it scratches that itch without demanding much in return.

Starship Found, Child Missing - a review by Rosemary Kenny.

Miles Rozak's series, Alien Ship For Sale, opens in British Colombia, with Book 1, Starship Found, Child Missing, as the MC Tyson Gage and his son Oliver are on a camping trip, when a stranger comes calling one night.
What happens afterwards could be taken straight from Star Trek mixed with Taken, or a Jamie Brindle fantasy novel, as both Gages, Maggie the retired Marine dog,Tess and others get whisked off aboard a criminal overlord's space cruiser for time dimensions unknown.

The action's like the storyline...fast and exciting and Miles Rozak hits all the right notes in a comic space thriller with Starship Found, Child Missing, despite a slightly frustrating cliff-hanger ending, that leaves you wanting more.

A rollicking adventure. Gage and his 4 year old son - and 9 others, are abducted by aliens … who are from the future! They are taken to said future, where they find there is no way home. The aliens set them adrift - except for his son - to allow the aliens to escape the authorities, in the future. Thus begins Gage’s quest to find and free his son. There are a number of geeky references, which I enjoyed, as well as references to current technology, which laid the foundation for the advanced tech that Gage found, in the future. I could see several spots where the author could have ended the story on a cliffhanger, but he didn’t. He satisfyingly wrapped up this part of the tale, leaving the reader eagerly awaiting the next part of the adventure. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation

Had promise but fell short. Characters are not developed, like at all. I can't make myself care about them. The potential love interest gets the same character development as a red shirt in Star Trek. She just isn't a person on the page.

The story is full of holes, not like little ones you can gloss over. Huge holes that jump out at you, removing you fromt he immersion of the story. I keep thinking, what editor let this slip?

The writing is clunky too. "The smoldering fire, smoldered." is an actual line in the book, or maybe book 2. ( I tried to let the story redeem itself)

Could have been a cool series, but no.

Entertaining and well written. Just seems that as much as the protagonist agonizes over his son, his actions don't quite match his feelings. He takes up with a love interest and trains to battle in the arena with enthusiasm. And even his final skills in the arena are kind of stretch the belief. A trained marine from the 21st century able to become so skilled in 25th century battle hardware in such a short time just makes this book not one of my favorites. I will not be pursuing the remaining in the series.

A story with heart

The premise is interesting, the characters likable, the action engaging. Hope that we will get to know the characters more in depth in the following books.
Also, the book could use an additional proofread (not by AI), as there are some typos and missing words in the text.
Overall, a fun story that promotes solid values to live by. Looking forward to the sequel!

The last thing a man should expect when he goes to bed, is that his next sleep won't be in the same solar system. The US Marine Corps motto is "Simper Fidelis", Always Faithful ... and the retired marine has devoted his life to his son ... who has now gone missing. Someone, somewhere, is going to pay.

Good Start

An interesting premise and with a motivated MC this does give some good points. Some parts of the story failed to gel very well with me, however, so it loses a star for that. A lot of the action scenes work out and the list of characters are entertaining. A good start and maybe not my first call on the tbr list but something I will keep an eye on.

Pretty Good Read!

I really enjoyed this book. It's very well put together. I liked that it describes in detail a lot of the hardware and technology of the future. The action was fast paced and I liked the cast of characters.
I find the author to be very talented, he had a pretty good vocabulary.
I certainly recommend this book to all space exploration fans out there👍💝

Starship Found?

I have hugely enjoyed reading this book and will immediately buy book two and hope that book three is available after that. If this is author Miles's first attempt in the battle armour series he has done a very good job in that too. My opinion is that all the scenes are well planned out.

I enjoyed this story

I am glad that I decided to read this story from a new to me author. An interesting concept where several Earth natives are not only kidnapped by aliens but are also transported 800 years into the future. However not all of the victims are released so a father must go on a quest to rescue his four year old son

Different

Different twists, interesting galaxy building. Three person crew formed to take on the bad guys. Almost too easy to win this first round and get a space ship. Will see how this develops--needs more explanation of the combat systems.
