Gaining Strength Through Our Pain is a collection of day-to-day encouraging poems, letters, and Scriptures, derived from trials, and tests that I experienced. As a child, I always kept how I felt within me. So when disappointments and heartaches came, I began to express my feelings through writing. There were many times when I felt like giving up, but through it all, I gained strength to rise above the storms and claim the victory. It's through our pain, where we gain strength. It's our job to look past the pain, and seek God. He will encourage, rebuild, and restore. You are chosen by God to do a work for Him. You are the light that has to shine so others can see that God is not dead, but He's yet alive. I pray that Gaining Strength Through Our Pain will encourage you to move forward and put your past behind you. Stand tall, hold on, and believe in yourself! We all need a Daybreak to get through the day, but the victory is yours!

Angela pens a wonderful journey of pain to perfection. Not perfection where one is flawless but perfection in the God that she serves and that she truly believes in. The passion behind her prayers is inspiring to any believer to really cleave to His word and understand who He truly is and how much He loves us. Her words were genuine and full of testimony and to me that is what makes it powerful. Her faith has evidence and she is sharing it for the world to witness without shame or hesitation. My favorites were: Your Redeemer Lives, Courage and The Healing Prayer. If anyone is seeking daily encouragement to hold on until that change comes this devotional will be one you should add to your collection.
During life’s journey, we are apt to experience difficulties and hardships. Some people’s troubles may be greater than others, but no one is immune when the storms of life come rolling in! In Daybreak Gaining Strength Through Our Pain, Angela Y. Hodge reveals her own personal struggles and offers poetic encouragement to those who may be at the lowest point in their life!
Daybreak Gaining Strength Through Our Pain is presented as a 31-day support guide. Each day, the reader is offered a biblical scripture and a beautifully crafted poem by the author that addresses issues which may be present in our lives. For instance, “The Battle That Was Within Me” deals with wanting acceptance and trying to find our place in the world; “A Second Chance” speaks to the opportunity that God gives all of us to try again; and “The Miracle That Was Unfolded” tells the amazing story of the author’s niece who was born fighting for her life, but - through God’s grace and mercy – is now an honors high school graduate!
As I completed the 31-day challenge, I was uplifted with each turn of the page. Angela reveals her most intimate emotions and situations as a way to assist the reader in increasing their faith in the power of God. Her messages resonate with hope for a better day, and the poems leave the reader feeling filled with assurance that prayer can and does change our situation! Daybreak Gaining Strength Through Our Pain is a great find, and I would recommend that readers take the challenge for themselves!
LOVE THIS BOOK! Author Angela Hodge wrote powerful inspirational messages from her personal experiences. Her victories came through faith in God who gave her the strength to rise above her setbacks.
The book is filled with spiritual insights. It is a strong reminder that God is faithful and in Him we can overcome challenging situations. The Author passionately encourages us to move beyond the past and discover the freedom and joy of living life in Jesus Christ.
A GREAT READ! Many of the words, phrases, and ideas in this book touched me deeply. I was particularly inspired by “Fearfully and Wonderfully Made” (page 47) and “The True Vine” (page 57). “Daybreak: Gaining Strength Through Our Pain” will definitely be a part of my devotional collection. It’s perfect for early morning start.
This book is delightfully uplifting and positive! The poems in this book are like little jewels. I read one each day and delighted in their depth of feeling and faith. It is a book you can keep on your desk in the office and read for a quick inspirational break during a crazy, busy day. It is light enough to carry in your purse and read on the bus, train, or in a waiting room. It now sits in my home, and yet I often pull it out and read from it. It is a great book to gift to a friend or loved one. Congratulations, Angela, on writing a book that is a great reflection of Christian faith and spiritual growth.

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. I took my time reading each poem so that I could really understand what the author has been through. She shares her pains as well as her joys and gives a praise report every day of the month. Definitely worth adding to your book collection...
Daybreak Gaining Strength through Our Pain is the first book of a pair. It is written as a 31 day journal. Each day is prefaced with a scripture. There is a poem on the opposite page that is to coincide with the scripture and give the reader daily strength and encouragement. The poems in this first book are definitely more original, rather than a rewording of scripture. Some of the poems did include entire verses of scripture. The majority of poems seemed to be prayers and again some seemed to be lessons more than poetry. The poet talked to the potential readers quite a bit, but with this first book it was acceptable because it wasn’t really presented as a personal journal. The scriptures were very inspirational and I looked forward to seeing which ones would preface each day. One thing about scripture is that it is powerful all by itself. There were a few poems that really stood on their own and really seemed like poetry. The idea behind the book was wonderful. It is difficult to judge something of this nature because of the sincerity of the writer. If I had to judge it based on what free verse and other forms of poetry normally are, I would say that this does fall short a bit.
