This chapter book about ants is a great book to use in the second grade for science when talking about insects and their environment and how certain ones survive. It is very informational. A great activity would be to go outside and examine an ant or antfile and just write down several observations. Or another activity they could do is color a diagram of an ant and label the parts of the ant.
I actually learned quite a bit about ants! I thought this was great for students who like insects and nonfiction reading. The illustrations were fantastic and went well with the information.
This story is a non fiction book. Ants are real. They lived before the dinosaurs and they are still here. If there were no ants, there wouldn't be any plants for us to eat like carrots, celery, and other vegetables that grow. And pets will not get any food; there would not be any animals if that happened. That's done. - Auryn, 7yo

This is a great book on ants. It teaches a whole lot that a lot of people, kids and adults, don't know. The pictures are kind of dull, but overall, of you wanted a child to learn about ants, this would be a good starter book.
