Immanuel Maurice Wallerstein was a scholar of politics, sociologist, historical social scientist, and world-systems analyst. His bimonthly commentaries on world affairs were syndicated.
shockingly prescient. weird, but i started seeing this book in my dreams sometime in may. i saw it on twitter and then all of a sudden, i had a dream about it. it took me a minute to get it (the university library had to pull it out of storage for me i'm pretty sure) but definitely worth the wait. much of what wallerstein wrote about the role of the university in the urban center (and how a restructuring and democratization of university governance could rectify its role) applies to the recent ways my university has been creating a rift between itself and the community in which it resides. long live archie's.
