the greatest book in the world. I've been reading the Bible for my whole life, but not until this year did I make it a goal to read the whole thing from cover to cover. I cannot believe how much it's changed my life, changed me as a person, and how much I have learned. I have grown so much this year and I owe it all to really dedicating time to study the Word in it's entirety. can't wait to start all over again and learn some more!
also, Joyce's side notes in this Bible were very helpful and enlightening. I just love her!
I would give this six or seven stars, if I could. Well, of course, it's the Word of God (duh!), but it's the amplified Bible, annnnd, there are tons of little blurbs and comments written by Joyce Meyer. There are also some very extremely helpful tables and references in the back. This is DEFINITELY my favoritest Bible (I have 10 of them!).
I picked this up on a whim while getting typical groceries at Wal-mart. It actually reads like modern talk. There are lots of other meanings behind particular words, which are helpful in trying to decipher the original meaning. Print size and formating are well done such that I can actually "curl up" with this in bed and read a few pages to close out my day. Joyce Meyer inserts her own interpretations and applications to life. I haven't read very many of those yet, but will look forward to how they work in with my interpretation of the text as well. Of course, Meyer has much more experience and reference material than I do so I will appreciate her efforts to summarize and insert applications into my daily life.
Who would have thought an impulse buy at Wal-mart would lead me to making an effort to read the Word?
I am already a BIG fan of the Amplified Bible so I really like this Bible for that reason alone. Additionally, my mom and I have watched Joyce Meyer for years and have read a couple of her books so I enjoy her notes and additional elaboration of the Scripture as well, including some information she shares from her life and experiences. I enjoy reading this Bible almost every morning so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
If all those fellows who died translating the Bible into the common tongue could see how it would one day be subjected to this treatment by a neo-Elmer Gantry crank like Joyce Meyer, they would have gladly stuck with the Latin and Greek. Seriously, if you're going to edit your thoughts into Bible notes, MAKE THEM WORTHWHILE. At high school, some of the dunces drew genitals and scribbled obscenities on the blank spaces in their school Bibles. I would pick these as a lesser desecration of Scripture than Meyer's gibberish.
I love this Bible because Joyce gives examples and added thoughts throughout that help me to have a deeper understanding instead of a cursory reading. It is like being in a Bible study everyday and she really helps me to "get" things!
This is an on-going read. I recieved this Bible as a gift for Christmas 2006, I had not recieved a nice study Bible since 1976 so I really needed one. I still read my old one too (I am attached to it) but the new one is neat because Joyce Meyer makes her life experiences a part of each chapter and it is interesting to read her story as I read the Bible.
I own this Bible, and I love it! It's written in the Amplified version, which is what Joyce mostly uses in her books. You will love the little study nuggets Joyce has scattered throughout the Bible on every few pages.
Highly recommended; especially, if you are struggling in life in any way. This Bible includes passages written by Joyce that help you understand sections better. She includes prayers. There's history and root word explanation. This Bible is one of the best gifts I've ever received.
#1 - The Amplified Version (AMP) is exactly what it says it is - an expanded English translation to capture more exactly, the full meaning of the original Hebrew & Greek, so great for study. Reads well & has a nice "flow" to it, though I wouldn't use it for following Scripture readings in church services, unless whoever was reading aloud was also using the AMP.
#2 - Joyce Meyer's Everyday Life notes, comments etc. are very much about attitudes/beliefs rather than outward behaviour. The emphasis is on practicality and balance, rather than religious dogma, and the need for each of us (that are Christian) to read/study the Bible for ourselves as well as just attending services - and avoiding getting carried away to extremes. Was reading this particular Bible during covid-19 lockdown, so found the mental health aspects resonating quite strongly!
More like 3 1/2 stars. I like it but I feel everyone should have a plain unadulterated version of the bible, i.e. not put out by anyone in particular ideally for reading, just you the bible and the Holy Spirit to guide you. I'm not saying you can't be led by the Holy Spirit reading the bible of Joyce's but it's simpler if you take out the middle man so to speak. I recommend having at lease one version of the bible but ideally a comparison bible that has two or three versions compared side by side. Then get Joyce's bible. Then again if the bible intimidates you, then get this one. It allows more guidance and focus, focusing on things that Joyce feels are vital. I don't think I'd buy it at full price but off of e-bay, sure.
Of course I didn't read the whole thing, just skimmed through it.
Three years ago I agreed to be a buddy for a project to read the Bible in one year. I quickly realized that was not going to work. I needed to digest, study, and reflect.
I read a lot of companion books along my three year journey, 44 books on many aspects of faith...in just a few pages a day.
And just like science and healthcare, the more I read the less I really knew. A few notable exceptions:
Life is a journey NOT a destination. The story of God and his steadfastness and forgiveness is very counter culture. It really is about the least of these....
So, Bob says what are you going to read now? Is anyone surprised...a different version.
If you enjoy Joyce’s teachings and insight, you will doubly appreciate reading them alongside Scripture.
Note: Joyce utilizes the amplified translation, as someone prone to further word study and who enjoys an expanded application- I found it only made me enjoy the studying more. However, I do strongly advise referencing other translations- 1. Different translations may communicate to you personally, in a different way 2. No translation is perfect, all have their pros and cons; in other words if you are uncertain of your understanding cross reference it through both different translations- and the context of the Bible itself.
How rewarding it is to be in the WORD of GOD daily! I appreciated all of the Life Point teachings, Commentary sections, Putting the Word to Work applications, Speak the Word prayer incentives, and the way Joyce gave the history of each book and its author and time frame. It has meant so much more staying in the Word and purposing to study it for life!
A dear friend recommended this book. I love it. It has very good applications in today's world as applied to with God's word. I only wish that it has an audio version and Large Print in addition to the regular book.
I adore this Bible. My mother gave it to me for a Christmas gift a few years ago and I am still amazed at how much more I was able to understand, comprehend it's meaning, Joyce Meyer has made it virtually jump off the page at me, I cannot stress how much I love this book.
Reading and studying this version of the Bible is wonderful along with Joyce Meyers notes and extrapolation made reading and understanding the Bible much easier great version of the Bible to read and study
I love this Bible. The King James version is a little difficult to understand at times. This Bible, I totally understand. I love Joyce's side notes and how she shares her life story throughout the Bible to correspond with what we are studying at the time.
Joyce Meyer explains God's word clearly and succinctly. She writes from the heart and stays true to what God wants to convey to the world. It really is superb to read and study. I have many bible commentaries and this one is the best.
When reading this Bible, I discovered what I believe is a flaw in the Kindle version and on my phone. If reading a chapter you can forget what book you’re reading. How do I find out quickly what book and chapter I am reading?
The notes were distracting rather than enhancing as I had hoped. Perhaps as a reference to illustrate a particular passage, this version might be useful.
Great commentary by Joyce Meyer. She does great job of bringing biblical stuff into focus, making it relevant for today. Of all the versions of the Bible l've read, this is my favorite.
