Up front I need to admit that I have not read the other books in the Texas Trails series. However, End of the Trail stands fabulously on its own. Never once did I feel I was missing something for not having read the previous books. Although, I must admit to being curious about some of the Morgan Family predecessors. Might just have to go pick up some of the other books. *grin*

Vickie McDonough crafted a lovely story of two flawed characters. Both Brooks and Keri have been estranged from their families and have dealt with it in different ways. Brooks by charming his way through life and drifting from town to town. Keri by proving herself "man" enough to work a ranch despite having to suffer through two years of finishing school torture. When their lives intermesh, the sparks fly, but along the way, the need for family that they both harbor leads them to each other, to the ones they left behind, and to God.

There is a bit of "Taming of the Shrew" in this story to liven up the interactions, although at times Keri's petulance got a bit old. However, I loved her spunk, her dead-eye aim with a rifle, and her dedication to the ranch. There is plenty of action and drama with a land-grabbing neighbor and a spurned suitor to keep the pages turning. And the powerful message of family reconciliation is one that will stay with me.

End of the Trail is a fun, quick read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Readers who love western inspirational romance, will enjoy Ms. McDonoughs fast-paced tale.

End of the Trail is the last book in the Texas series but can easily be read as a standalone. I was immersed into Brook’s story from the beginning. He had left home out of anger at an early age. John Langston offered him a job to care for him in Shoofly. Brook matured and gained respect with John but was unprepared when he won John’s ranch in a poker game with one condition of caring for Keri. There are tense moments when she returned to Shoofly. Vickie McDonough penned a beautiful story from the start to finish with plenty of emotion, intrigue, mystery, action and a gently woven gospel message that is easy for all to find forgiveness, new beginnings, hope, love and peace.

End of the Trail by Vickie McDonough is a fascinating tale of love, restoration, trust, and reconciliation set against a plot of life-threatening greed.
Brooks Morgan, a drifter, stumbles into Shoofly, Texas, in 1896 to get out of storm. He befriends a man, Will Langston, who sets him on a life-changing course. Brooks wins Will’s ranch in a poker game. Brooks sees it as an opportunity to finally settle down and prove, at least to himself, he’s not the lazy, good-for-nothing who ran away from home ten years earlier.
What Books didn’t count on was Will’s niece, Keri. Back from what she saw as a two year exile to finishing school, she is anxious to change her dresses for pants and resume the life she loves, riding horses and tending cattle.
They meet when Keri saves Brooks from being hung by men who want to take over the ranch. Fireworks explode when she learns Brooks now owns the ranch, a ranch she dreamed of owning.
This is a most enjoyable read, especially for those who like historical romance. For me, it is a well written Western which captures the full flavor of the times as it tells the story of Brooks and Keri fighting to keep the ranch while also struggling in their own relationship.
Danger and excitement will keep you turning pages as the two battle an evil land baron and a crooked banker who demands that Keri marry him.
Ms. McDonough does an excellent job of allowing the relationship between Brooks and Keri to develop in a way that is believable. The two move from adversaries to reluctant allies against a common foe to struggles with growing affection for each other. She adroitly uses humor to both build tension between the two and then to soften each of them.
The book never slows down as the author ratchets up the stakes and adds unexpected, yet believable, plot twists that keep the reader engaged to the very satisfying ending.

Brooks Morgan never saw the importance of learning how to run his family's ranch because he had no intention of taking it over when it was time. He also never understood the needs for doing so many chores when there were plenty of other brothers and sisters to do it. He'd rather spend his time fishing, hanging out with his friends or riding his Morgan, Jester. Yet when a confrontation with his father left him feeling less than wanted, he rode off and never looked back.

Yet when opportunity presented itself to Brooks through needs of an elderly but friendly old man, Will Langston who hired him to help him out while he was dying, Brooks knew he couldn't run from this. In time, he actually grew to appreciate and care for Will and when fate dealt him a winning hand in a poker game, he found himself the new owner of Raven Creek Ranch, a 4000 acre cattle ranch owned by Will, with the promise he would care for Keri. When Will returns from town he finds the cabin in a disarray and Will looks to have been murdered. Rather than spend his time searching for revenge, the Marshall tells Brooks to head out to the ranch and leave the investigation to him.

Keri Langston has spent two grueling years at Wesleyan Female College in Georgia and couldn't wait for her final days to be free. Even though she went under duress, she knew her Uncle and the boys on the ranch couldn't help her with knowing what a lady should know even though she didn't want it. They knew if she didn't attend finishing school, the likelihood of her finding a suitable husband would be hard to come by. Now she was looking forward to getting back to her Uncle's ranch and out of corsets and dresses and back into trousers and boots!

When Keri arrives in town, she finds it odd that no one arrives to pick her up from the train station but believes perhaps her Uncle or one of the ranch hands didn't receive her letter informing them of her arrival and decides to head home. Along the way, she comes across a man about to be hanged and she knows that no justice ever comes from vigilante hangings. She is advised by the men to head on out so they can dispense with their task but Keri doesn't like anyone telling her what to do. She warns the men to turn the man loose or risk her wrath with a loaded shotgun. She sends them enough knowledge about her shooting skills when she shots the noose off the man and they leave but with a warning, they are both going to pay for this! What Keri doesn't realize is the man she saved is Brooks Morgan, the new owner of the ranch she still believes is hers and this is where the story gets exciting! But you'll have to pick up the book because that is all in the first couple chapters and there is loads more excitement behind the covers of Vickie McDonough's latest novel, End of the Trail, the six and final book in the Texas Trail Series.

So if you love a great western romance with a little bit of intrigue and laughs tossed in for good measure, you'll want to pick this one up. But with it comes a warning. If you haven't read the other 5 books in the series, you'll want to pick those up as well but you can read this one as a stand alone and still LOVE it!

I received End of the Trail compliments of Moody Publishers and Net Galley for my honest review and have to say being a huge Christian Western Romance lover, this one spoke to my heart and soul. I love the strong female character of Keri Langston and seeing how she handles the men that she meets along the way, doesn't show a girl can't wear a dress and still know how to rope, ride and shot like the best of the men. I give this one a 5 out of 5 stars and just know you'll love it too!

End of the Trail by Vicki McDonough
Texas Trails:A Morgan Family Series Book 6
In book 3 of this series: Lone Trail Home, we met Riley Morgan who had married Anne Sheffield. They lived near Waco, Texas. This book is about Brooks Morgan, their oldest son.
After being a bit too spoiled as a youngster, Brooks has become a bit of a lazy boy by age sixteen. In a moment of anger he takes off on his horse, Jester. Ten years later we find Brooks too stubborn to face his family, broke and in a hail storm. He meets Will Langston, a man who is dying and needs help. Just a short time later Brooks has buried his friend, gained a ranch, and is about to walk into a heap of trouble. Not only from a greedy man wanting his ranch but also from a woman he promised to take care of. At the time he thought Keri was livestock, not a beautiful young woman.

Keri Langston hated the school in Georgia Uncle Will sent her to. Soon she could be back on Raven Creek Ranch, with Uncle Will and out of the fancy dresses and back into her britches with her Winchester and horse. That was the plan. Instead she finds her Uncle Will is dead and some smiling handsome gambler now owns her home. She don't give up easy but neither do those around her. Dengler the neighbor wanting the ranch nor Carl Peters who has wanted to be her beau for years. Between their pride and stubbornness can these two people find not only love for each other but to allow themselves to see God's love in their lives?

I really enjoyed End of the Trail. Vickie brought the characters to life and we got to see Brooks mature right in front of us. Taking care of Will taught him some responsibility. It also brought the real life fact into the book how pride can keep us from doing the right thing and selfishness can stop us from thinking about anyone but ourselves. Poor Riley & Anne never knew for ten years whether Brooks was alive or dead. I also enjoyed when Keri was in Georgia learning to be a lady. They just couldn't take the Texan out of her. The book also shows how parents do what is best for us, sometimes we don't get to see the whole picture until much later in life...as Keri did. Just a great story all the way around.

This is the last book in this series. The trails have been long and tough and filled with violence, hate, prejudice, death and greed. But they have been filled with good things as well. We watched as the Morgan Family grew and spread out, where God blessed them in some ways and walked with them through sorrow to make them stronger in other ways. If you enjoy history, adventure and romance all in one...this series is worth the time to read. The three authors have come together in their writing these six books to put these great stories together.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The main character is Brooks Morgan,a man who ran away from home at a young age. Ten years later, having never returned home, he meets an old, ailing man named Will who he takes care of. The man gives him his ranch Raven Creek in a game of cards. Brooks tries to return it to him, but the man insists, and also asks that when he is gone, Brooks takes care of Keri. Brooks assumes she is a beloved dog or horse.
Meanwhile, Keri Langston looks forward to leaving her female college and returning home to her uncle's Raven Creek Ranch. On her way home, she discovers a man being strung up with a noose around his neck. She rescues him, then continues home on her own. Later she finds out that the man she rescued is Brooks, who now owns what she thought would be her ranch. He lets her remain in what she still believes is her home and the two begin to fall in love. However, a man who wants to marry Keri also wants her land and will stop at nothing to get what he wants.
I did not read the other books in this series about the Morgan family, but I plan to now after reading this book that I loved reading. The other books are written by several different authors and are called: Captive Trail, Cowgirl Trail, Ranger's Trail, The Lone Star's Trail and The Long Trail Home. I did not think that I missed anything important by not reading these because it could probably stand alone. Nonetheless, I will make sure that I read the others in the series.
Thanks to the publishers and netgalley for a free ebook in exchange for my honest opinion in a review.

What a truly wonderful book!
Brooks Morgan is the ultimate slightly-flawed hero with a cocky grin that’s bound to make any female reader fall in love. After a decade of drifting and learning life’s lessons the hard way, Brooks wins a ranch in a poker game. Trouble is, feisty Keri Langston thinks Raven Creek Ranch belongs to her. If she’d known Brooks Morgan held the deed to her property, she might have left him hanging on the end of the rope she found him on, instead of shooting him free and saving his sorry life.
But she didn’t know. She did shoot him free. And now he’s a way-too-happy, far-too-handsome thorn in her side.
The End of the Trail is a hilarious, heart-rending, soul-searching rollercoaster ride. I loved it, and didn’t want the ride to end. But then, I always love McDonough’s work. This author presents stellar writing; wonderful, unexpected humorous moments; touching, heart-wrenching situations that make it hard to know who to root for; and consistently riveting storylines.
I dare you to read this book and not smile! Thing is, you will smile…and get a little weepy…and gasp in surprise a few times, as well.
End of the Trail really is that good.

Thanks to Netgalley for my review copy.

This is the sixth book and at this stage final book the Morgan Family Series. This book features Brook who leaves home after an issue with his father. He drifts from job to job and ends up in the town of Shoofly and ends up with a Ranch on the condition he looks after Keri who he assumes is a dog or a horse.
Keri is the former owners niece and a crack shot. There meeting is quite interesting.
I enjoyed the interaction between the different characters. There is danger from a fellow rancher who wants to buy up all the land around and will stop at nothing to make them sell out. I loved the tension and drama that happens in this book. The book also deals with forgiveness both from child and parents, dealing with issues of abandonment and self worth, and understanding different reasons something happened. I am sad the series is over as I have loved getting to know the families and also learning Texan history at the same time.

It took me a little while to warm up to this hero, but when I did, I fell as hard as heroine Keri Langston. Brooks Morgan runs away from home as a young man, and drifts for ten years until the end of his trail brings him stumbling into Shoofly, Texas during a hail storm with empty pockets. A dying rancher, Will, befriends Brooks and gives him a meal and a job. Will's unexpected kindness lands Brooks toe to toe with Will's niece, Keri. Both Keri and Brooks stake a claim on Will's ranch and the romantic sparks fly. These rivals quickly band together when a dangerous man puts the ranch in his cross hairs.

Both hero and heroine have past scars that they must overcome. Both must make peace with estranged family. And both will steal your heart as they face hardship, setback, threats and heartbreak with grit and genuine character. You'll root for them against all odds and cheer as they stake their claim on love, reconciliation, and a very happily ever after.

The book started out OK. But by chapter four it went down hill and stayed down there.Do not buy this book, not even at a yard sale for a nickel, or your money will be wasted!

Unless you like what seems drunk writing. I won't quote them, because there are just too many? Too much disjointed parts and conversations.

Many times Kari acts like a schizophrenic if I am not mistaken in how schizophrenics act.

Then you add the never ending Tragedies into this mess of a book. I numbered most of them. Seriously if these folks were real life person, they would be better off dead.

Now for the tragedies.
1. Uncle is murdered

2. Brooks money is stolen

3. Kari is not met by her uncle or anyone . even though she sent a cable. (Who is the cable operator that could not even send it to her ranch hands)

4. Brooks is on way to ranch and two bullies try to murder him, just for the title to the ranch.

5. She comes across this and scares the bullies, but he is still tied up and his horse takes off, and he runs into a tree branch and falls off his horse, some how makes it to the ranch.

6. Kari abandons Brooks to his tied up hands and run away horse, not caring a whit. Selfish person eh? Oh and she thinks it is funny he gets hurt riding with his hands tied behind his back.

7. When he gets to the ranch she pulls a shotgun on him.

8. She reams him about not working hard, so he sees a step needs repaired, ad gets it ready to repair. Her friend and , friends brother that wants to force marriage one her (Carl) pulls up just as Brooks goes to look for replacement wood. Kari walks out and of course sprains her ankle on the missing step. (Boo hoo).

9. Carl threatens her, trying to force a marriage on her. She says no and the threats escalate.

10. Neighbor dammed up the ranches water, to try to force a sale to him.

11. They go into town to church to confront dam builder, but he wasn't at church. Then go back home and the next days she says. "we gotta go to town to get my trunk from the depot." Roll my eyes, she did not mention that the day before?

12. Carl threatens her again.

13. They get home and dam builder is there in person threatening them.

14. They go spy out the dam and get shot at.

15. Worker almost falls off the top of a windmill.

16. A dog tries to attack her while she is in town a few days later.

17. A. Same day... Her mother shows up, no warning, no word. She finds out her mom was a hooker. This is about the third or fourth time she goes rushing off like a twelve year old, and thinks she is so tough. (But not near the final time, she is a drama queen)
17. B. the conversation between her mother and her was so out of whack, no real person would converse with a mother that had abandoned her child like this author wrote. Does the author really think us readers are so inept at reading and comprehension that was are that stupid?
18. Brooks takes dead beat mom to the home.

19. Within 24 hours a rabid coyote tries to attack her.
20. Same day, her and her mom make up for all the years of abandonment….. roll eyes.
21.Ranch hand falls off horse.(still same day)
22. she finds out her real father lives within miles of the ranch.. goes off in a huff again, same day still.

All through book author makes her tough. Quote from book. " After nearly dying today and learning about her mother's awful life, the news of her father was more than she could endure." Boo hoo whine cry drama rama.

Can the author be consistent?

23. Same day, later. Carl comes back and tries to bully her into marriage again. Oh by the way, her ankle is miraculously healed after one or two days. Sprains take weeks to heal in real life.

24. Now this is where the author really goes off on a bender. A few days later, they are leaving the ranch, despite the threats, to go to a town nearby to see a train crash. Yes to watch two trains crash. And on the train to the train crash, all the sudden both get sleepy. There was no rhyme or reason to add that sleepiness scene, but perhaps to add a page for the publishers.

25. At this set up train crash, things get out of hand and many get hurt. The only one the author cares about is Brooks. Not one child or woman that got hurt is mentioned so the disaster was just a drama part that was not needed.

26. She tries to get him on the train to the nearest doc, and ends up going the wrong way. (roll eyes)

27. She realizes she is near his family, who he fallen out of years earlier and takes it on herself to find them. And of course his dad is a bit cold.

28. Family all make up and all is well, (get that fake warm fuzzy feeling) until they all are coming back to her ranch, even his ma and pa, cause they want to spend time with them. They get a cable at the train station in their home town saying there was a problem.

29. Same day as travel. Get to the ranch and the new windmill is burnt to the ground.

30. within minutes, then they find out a ranch hand was hanged by the arsonists. Other ranch hand, Nate, has been hurt in the situation.

31. So brooks is back home in bandages from the train disaster and the ranch has been attacked. Then she hears of her mom's 'heart' condition, runs off the second time that day. Yes still the same day.

32. next day Brooks is in town and hears of two more men the dam builder had killed. In the meantime…

33. Kari is at home talking to her mom, who tells her that Nate is her father. she runs off again hysterical, to the home of Carl. Nate goes looking for Kari, knowing that she just heard of him being her father. He found out that day earlier.

34. Carl kidnaps her and Nate and shoots it out with the sheriff, who had ...
35. just returned from the dam builders home and had a shoot out there killing the dam builder. Carl also beats his sister at times , it is discovered and he shoves her and the maid in the closet.

36. Brooks sneaks in the back and gets Carl to finally give up.

Story is too much of drama queen. So badly it boarders on stupidity.

Does the author really think her readers are uneducated enough to really enjoy such drama, and over drama.

Rated a one cause I could not rate lower.

If you like a book that touches on several genres and is captivating from beginning to end this book is for you! It consists of family drama, intrigue, a bit of humor, romance, western, and filled with action. This is the sixth book in The Texas Trails series. Although this is the 6th book in the series, it could quite easily be read as a standalone but once you read it you will want to go back and read the others. I have ordered the other five and can hardly wait to read them! I highly recommend to everyone...it's a light and very enjoyable read!

Brooks Morgan is quick on the draw, but his weapon of choice is his smile. He’s smart and witty and has charmed his way through much of life, but now he’s growing older—and a bit wiser. He wants to stop drifting and settle down. He sees his chance when he wins Raven Creek Ranch in a poker game, but when he goes to claim his prize, a pretty woman with a shotgun says the ranch belongs to her. Brooks isn’t leaving his one and only chance to make something of his life—but neither is she. Can they reach an agreement? Or will a greedy neighbor force a showdown, causing them both to lose what they want most in life?

I read the entire series and enjoyed it all..but this book I read in a day! I couldn’t put it down. It’s way too late or early in the morning now lol and I need to go to bed.Thank you Vickie for a wonderful story about redemption, love, forgiveness and family. The reminder how God loves us and has such wonderful plans for us…if we will only follow Him

Keri and brooks were wonderful characters. Both coming from brokenness and wanting love. Keri had great spunk and Brooks had a smile that charmed everyone. Throw in land grabbing neighbor, a spurned lover and you have twist and turns and at a fast pace . Family redemption and God’s love brings it all to a wonderful ending.

Vickie McDonough in her new book, “End Of The Trail” Book Six in The Texas Trail Series published by River North Fiction Division of Moody Publishers takes us to Texas in 1865.

From the Back Cover: He enters a poker game and wins a new life

She loses the only home she has ever known

Two hostile adversaries are forced to work together

It didn’t take long for Brooks Morgan to make a name for himself in Shoofly. A high stakes poker game ends with Brooks holding the deed to his new friend Will’s ranch, a vague promise to “take care of Keri” and Will’s mysterious demise.

When Brooks finally rides to the Raven Creek Ranch, he is greeted by a rifle pointed straight at his chest. This is the “Keri” he promised to take care of-Will’s niece-who believes Raven Creek is promised to her. Keri and Brooks have only one thing in common – they both want to save the ranch. Will their differences make this impossible?

Doubt meets hope, and fear gives way to faith in the Morgan family.

It is with deep emotion I write that with “End Of The Trail” Vickie McDonough brings the Morgan Family series to their end of the trail. It is been a great series of six books that was begun with Darlene Franklin with ”Lone Star Trail”. You can read each of them as a stand-alone but it is much better when you read them in order.

“End Of The Trail” is another romance set against the backdrop of Texas. Vickie McDonough takes up the story of the Morgan family that she began in book three, “Long Trail Home” as Brooks Morgan is Riley Morgan’s oldest son. Me, I really like Westerns. I like what authors can do with them and Vickie McDonough really knows how to write a Western. Anytime that a gambler can win a ranch in a poker game means that an exciting story is brewing and brew it does. Someone else wants the ranch, another wants Keri, Keri and Brooks don’t really get along and they need to if the Raven Creek Ranch will continue to belong to them. Let me assure you that this is an exciting book. In addition to being suspenseful it is also a romance. Then there is the theme of growing up, taking responsibility not only for your own actions but for others welfare and allowing God to mold you. If you enjoy history like I do then this book is for you. Ms. McDonough’s characters seem to come alive and it is like you are there at the Ranch fighting for it along with Brooks and Keri. “End Of The Trail” concludes the rich tradition of being all about families and relationships. I enjoyed this book a lot and am sorry to see the series end. Perhaps these three talented authors will team up again and bring us another series. I certainly hope so.

Brooks Morgan has been heading West working on one ranch after another. As he rides into the little town of Shoofly it comes a downpour that turns into hail and sends him high tailing it up onto the boardwalk and into a cafe. As he entered a tired looking old guy invites to Brooks to sit at his table and offered to buy him a meal. The man introduces himself as John Langston and offers Brooks a job. Brooks was running out of cash so he excepted the job offer. It turned out that John is terminally ill and needs someone to stay with him until he succumbs to the disease. It was a strange request but he needed to earn some cash if he planned to eat and have traveling money to get him further West.

Brooks didn't realize the job came with a renewal of his faith in God. John's friends had planted seeds of faith that took root in his hardened heart.

One day while playing cards with John and some of his friends John and Brooks were the only ones left in the game. John laid down a deed to some property he owned outside of town and asked to see Brooks cards. Brook laid out his cards and John folded. It looked like Brook was the property owner of the Raven Creek Ranch.

After John passed away and all was taken care of Brooks decided it was about time he saw this so called ranch. He wasn't expecting much but it would be his to do with as he chose. As he headed out some angry rough looking men stopped and questioned him about his proof of ownership of the ranch.

Meanwhile back in Shoofly, Keri is just stepping off the train. Since her Uncle wasn't there to pick her up she went to the livery to rent a horse and headed on out to the ranch. As she rode out toward Raven Creek Ranch she noticed some men were in the process of trying to hang a man. Since she was a crack shot she aimed at the rope just above the man's head. No way could she let those scoundrels take the law into their own hands! As soon as the shot rang out and the rope fell the man's horse took off with him and Keri didn't waste anytime either. She was out of there fast. She was totally unaware that the man's hands were still tied and he had something over his face and no way of controlling his horse. Not good! Not good at all!

I could go on and on but that would spoil the book for you. I wouldn't want that to happen. So grab the book and find out what happens to Brooks. What will Keri find or not find when she get's to the ranch? It looks like both of their lives are in for a big change.

This book, just like the others in this series did not disappoint me. It was sad, intriguing and at times down right funny. I really like the story line of this young man running from responsibility for years only to end up in the same life he left. But now he is in a different town with his own ranch and letting God lead the way. I was really sorry for the book to end. I will miss the Morgan family.

Vickie McDonough wrote two of the books in this series. Each books in the Texas Trails series can be read as a standalone book or as a series.

I highly recommend this book along with the other books in the Texas Trails series.

My Review:

Keri couldn't wait to come home from the all ladies school. She had enough with being proper wearing skirt and other womanly things, she was ready for trousers and her life back on the ranch. But one thing she didn't expect was to find that her only family, her Uncle had died a week prier. That was one thing but there is something so different and beyond that, there's this handsome man saying he owns her uncles ranch and everything on it. Well, that's a conversation that he's going to have with the end of her shot gun.

When Brooks received the ranch after beating Keri's Uncle in a card game, he was all but happy. He felt that the old man should have kept it but when he came to tell him that, he found something that made him very angry. But he has to do as he promised, he has to find away to take care of Kerri. Even though she's feisty and wild, he can't help but think she's pretty. But when a evil man threatens Brooks, he knows it's time to get serious and fight this man off before, he loses someone he loves to much. But could that cause them the ranch and everything they own?

Well I really hate to see this series end, but I guess eventually all things have to. It was a really great series with lots of mystery, mayhem, and tons of romance. This book was an awesome end to a very exciting series that spanned generations.

This is the last book in this series. The trails have been long and tough and filled with violence, hate, prejudice, death and greed. But they have been filled with good things as well. We watched as the Morgan Family grew and spread out, where God blessed them in some ways and walked with them through sorrow to make them stronger in other ways. If you enjoy history, adventure and romance all in one...this series is worth the time to read. The three authors have come together in their writing these six books to put these great stories together.

Brooks Morgan had always been his mother's favorite, but when she shows disdain in him for not pulling his weight around the ranch helping his father, he feels guilty. Thing is Brooks isn't interested in running the ranch that he will someday inherit so when his father threatens to take away his horse Jester, Brooks does the first thing he thinks of and that's hop on his horse and run away. While playing a high stakes poker game he wins the Raven Creek Ranch, from his friend Will Langston. He tries giving it back but Will refuses making him promise that he will take care of Keri' if something ever happens to him. When Will is murdered, Brooke finds himself responsible for the ranch and soon learns that Keri is actually Will's niece and she believes that the ranch should be hers. If that isn't enough there is someone else who want's the ranch and will stop at nothing to get it!How will God work things out between these two headstrong people? Can they save the ranch without getting their hearts involved?
Wow! This isn't your typical cowboy western novel. The author weaves an interesting tale of a young man leaving home because he doesn't want to ranch, and then finds himself owning the Raven Creek Ranch. The main characters of Brooks and Keri were often amusing. I found myself laughing on more than a few occasions. They become allies, out of necessity, and slowly become more. I found it really believable because it wasn't love at first sight! As a fan of historical western fiction this one certainly fit the bill, I got a believable romance, some humor, as well as a few intriguing plot twists that kept me reading to find out what would happen. While this is the sixth book in A Morgan Family Series it can easily be read as a stand alone work, but I loved this one so much I plan on looking up the other books because if they are half as good as this one they're going to be great!

A complimentary copy of this book was provided in exchange for an honest review.

“I received this book from Moody Publishers for the purpose of this honest review. All comments and opinions are my own.”

“It didn’t take long for Brooks Morgan to make a name for himself in Shoofly. A high stakes poker game ends with Brooks holding the deed to his new friend Will’s ranch, a vague promise to “take care of Keri,” and Will’s mysterious demise.

When Brooks finally rides out to Raven Creek Ranch, he is greeted by a rifle pointed straight at his chest. This is the “Keri” he promised to take care of—Will’s niece—who believes Raven Creek is promised to her. Keri and Brooks have only one thing in common: they both want to save the ranch. Will their differences make that impossible?

Okay, now that I have officially finished the Texas Trails series, End of the Trail is the best one in the series! Although I am sad that there aren’t any more to read, this book finished the series with action, drama, romance, and lots of unexpected turn-of-events that forced me to finish the book in 2 hours!

Brooks was a very good character that I look forward to reading about again. The way he smiles in every circumstance, and always looks for a silver-lining was just charming. Keri was also fun to read about, her hating dresses when women only wore dresses, her riding astride when a side-saddle was necessary, and the way she handled her gun was definitely fun!

As I mentioned earlier that there was a lot of action, I want to say that this book had the most amount of action in the series, in my opinion. There were several hangings that were caused by the outlaw Saul Dengler (an attempt to hang Brooks), two head injuries (but not detailed) and also a gunfight. Just thought I would say that.

Anyways, I loved this book and will probably read the whole series again in the future. Thank y’all for reading my review!

This book’s main character is Brooks Morgan. I have not read any of the other books in this series and because of that feel I missed out on some of the background of the family. I do think this book can stand alone but will say that reading the others in the series would probably make it more enjoyable for you.

The other main character is Keri. I really enjoyed her and thought the author did a good job of developing her and showing how she changed over time. I think the author did this very well with the character of Brooks too! It felt like we were watching these two characters grow up in front of us.

The story itself is in a fun setting. I like stories set in the 1800’s and in the west. I also liked how the author wrote the romance of the main characters. Their interactions were well written and I enjoyed that part of the story as much as the setting.

I gave this book 5/5 stars because of the fast moving plot, great characters and fun setting.

I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this book I enjoyed reading. I gave an honest review based on my opinion of what I read

In reading reviews I am seeing that a lot of people have not read the previous books. This is an interesting series in that the books can stand alone just fine, but you ARE missing out if you don't read at least the other book by the same author in the series. The first book is about Jud, and the 4th book is about his son, Buck. The second book is about Jud's sister Billie and the 5th book is about Billie's son Alex, and the 3rd book I believe Riley is a cousin to Jud and Billie and book 6 is about his son Brooks. I enjoyed all 6 books

In End of the Trail we meet Brooks who thinks he's not a very good guy cause he was spoiled rotten and then ran away when he didn't like what his father wanted him to do. But we find that he is a very loving and generous guy when he meets a man who is dying and asks for his help. This book had a few interesting twists and turns that were sort of unexpected but made for a very enjoyable story. Love Vickie McDonough's books and this one was just as wonderful as the others I have read.

Much of the plot of this book was predictable. I figured out who was doing what to whom and how way before the end. That said, there were certain spots in it that surprised me - the finding of oil, the building of the water tower, and Keri's mother and father coming forth (though I knew who the father was way in advance). I also appreciated the author finding a peaceful solution to the problems. But what made this book for me was Brooks Morgan. He is indeed a charmer, for he charmed me into reading to the very end. What a superb character! He goes down as one of my male favorites, with his ever-present smile. The setting was done well. I could see the house, the barn, and the endless landscapes. And I loved the snarky humor between Keri and Brooks. My only regret was that it ended because I wanted to know what happened after the wedding. I didn't want to let the couple go. That is a sign of a great story. (Hint - I need a second book!) Wonderful story for an afternoon's read.

End of the Trail is the sixth book in the Texas Trails series. Vickie McDonough weaves the tale of Brooks Morgan and Keri Langston. Brooks has been drifting in life for the past ten years, with no real ambition until he stumbles upon the small town of Shoofly, Texas. Brooks comes to the aid of an old man, and wins the deed to a ranch in a high-stakes poker game. Before the old man dies, he quips to Brooks to "take care of Keri." No problem, he grew up on a ranch and knows how to handle critters.

Except Keri isn't the animal he was anticipating, but a beautiful young woman instead. Brooks doesn't know the first thing about what to do with her, and isn't about to give up his opportunity of a home of his own. Will they be able to solve their differences or will one of them need to go packing? I'm sure you'll enjoy this delightful tale set in 1896.

I love Vickie's books. I did read her other Texas Trail book, but I haven't read the other four books by other authors. I didn't feel like I missed anything. This book can be read as a stand alone. However, I do believe this would be a fun series to follow from book one. One thing that drives me crazy is a sagging middle of a novel. You won't find that in End of the Trail. The story really picks up momentum in the middle where other books begin to sag. Like all her other books, Vickie does a fantastic job of pulling you back in time. You feel like you're riding up to the ranch, hiding in the woods, walking through the barn. She has a real gift for pulling you in. The story is fun with several twists. Her character's are flawed and real. A great book to put on your TBR pile!

I was very interested in reading this series. I am tickled to have won the first one! The concept of a series where each book is written by a different author intrigues me very much!
I liked this book a lot. It had drama, mystery, love at first sight, answers to long hidden secretes...
This was a good book. Very well written. Vickie did a good job of mixing in serious subjects with humour and joy. Trouble and mystery with love and hearts searching and trusting in God.
I am anxious to read book two of this series and see where the next author takes it!
I won this book from the Book Club Network and this is my own opinion of the book.

I just finished reading 'End of the Trail' by Vickie McDonough. Although this fast-paced, heart-warming read is the 6th and last book in the Texas Trails series, I certainly hope the series will continue. If you enjoy Christian Historical Fiction, then you don't want to miss 'End of the Trail' and the other books in this series. By the way, I'm reading these out of order and it doesn't seem to matter one bit. Each of these books can be read as stand-alones, though I'm sure you'll want to read them all.

In 1886 Texas, Brooks Morgan is a very young charmer who takes off on his own leaving his parents wondering what happened to him. The years go by and Brooks finally finds a home for himself not far you his parents. You can't help but like Brooks, I thought the author did a great job of bringing his personality to life making the it so easy for the reader to follow this story. A very good romance that says a lot about forgiveness
and how it's never to late to except Christ.
