Rate this book
"Best Friends," the first book in the "Listening to the Animals" Series, explores the very meaning of friendship between people and animals. In it you'll discover all the reasons why we love God's creatures, what we can learn from them and how they enrich our lives. You'll discover, too, that animals can befriend each other as well as humans, further evidence of God's love for all his creatures.

This book is so sweet, I read a few stories before going to sleep at night to have nice thoughts in my head. Some were sad & reminded me of my loss of my best furry friend, Marshall, almost 2 years ago. The others made me laugh & smile.

I have such mixed feelings about this one. The stories are okay if you are an animal lover, which I am. They are written in about a 5th grade reading level, so there is nothing complex there. The reason I only gave it four stars was the religion. Yes, I realize it is a Guideposts book and it is to be expected, but it was just ridiculous to me. For example, there is a story where a pig eats some fruit, the author of the story never says what kind of fruit it is, and they assume the fruit is poison and the pig is going to die. It sounded to me like the fruit may not have been ripe enough and the pig got a bit of a tummy ache. Well, the owners of the pig don't have enough money to take the pig to the vet, so they pray and miracle of all miracles the pig gets better, and they gush about how God cured the pig. As I said, it looks to me like the pig had a stomach ache and after a few hours felt better. I was annoyed by this, but I guess to each their own.
