A really good graphic novel with a good story and really nice artwork. I liked how the women were pretty badass but their clothes (or lack of clothes I should say) were just impractical. I could rant and rant all day about the overly-sexualised female characters but I won't... Just know I didn't like it!
I played all the video games and while I liked Baird in the games (and the previous comic), I did not like him in this comic. The words sexist, chauvinistic and asshole come to mind. I did like the rest of the characters. My favourite things about the graphic novel were the short character stories at the end. I thought they were very cool and I would like to read more of them.
The artwork was really cool. All the colours worked really well together. This Gears Of War comic is something I will definitely keep on reading because they're good comics. They just need a bit more work to get a higher rating from me. I would recommend this to GOW fans or comic fans.
I'm a huge fan of the Gears of War franchise. This comic added to that lore in every way imaginable. Baird stole the show here and the writing was fantastic. If you like gritty, war flavored comics, this is a must read for sure. You'll probably love it more if you're a fan of the Gears universe. I highly recommend you pick this up. Jim Lee's cover is pretty badass too.
Read in high school for the Tai story. The main plot, which is in line with Gears of War's gritty dystopian universe, is still pretty screwed up due to the SA content. It's gross and doesn't age well (if at all to begin with). Didn't continue continue in the comics past this.
What a dark, gloomy look into a look at what humanity would be forced to do to survive if ever brought to the brink of extinction. One memorable quote from fan favorite Tai Kailiso :
"They say war is hell. War is not hell, for in hell innocence is spared."
This is a true sequel showing love and lust and trying to save everyone. It teaches you there are worse things than death. This is an emotional tale where literally the characters are near death continually.
As I said in my review of the first book, I'm not huge into graphic novels, but I liked this one! I thought Alex was bad a$$ and I enjoyed getting to know her more and where she comes from, etc. Now I know why she is the way she is.
As a follow up to the first volume, this is a very strong continuation. Again the artwork is great, the story was not quite as engaging but, still a solid read worth the time!
