Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi born Ahmad Shah Awan was an Urdu and English language Pakistani poet, journalist, literary critic, dramatist and short story author. He wrote 50 books on topics such as poetry, fiction, criticism, journalism and art, and was a major figure in contemporary Urdu literature. His poetry was distinguished by its humanism, and his Urdu afsanay (short stories) are considered second only to Prem Chand in its depiction of rural culture. He was also editor and publisher of the literary magazine Funoon for almost half a century. He received several awards such as the Pride of Performance in 1968, Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1980 and Pakistan's highest literary award Kamal-e-Fun Award in 1998 for his literary works.
The power of fiction can be felt through this book. Multiple colors of sufferings are painted on the canvas of life. Each story has its own distinct taste and impact. It seems strange that after so many years after publication of these stories yet one still can relate these to today's life. Do give it a try.
The book is an amazing work of Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi. The book consists of 17 short stories beautifully depicting the culture of mostly rural Punjab. It shows how landowners and other wealthy exploit poor. Human nature is explained in a way that no other Urdu writer has ever done. Overall one the best works of Ahmad Nadeen Qasmi. A job well done. Highly recommended.

Kapaas ka Phool is a beautiful collection of short stories that delves deep into the nuances of human emotions, societal values, and the complexities of relationships. With his characteristic simplicity, Qasmi portrays both the harsh realities and the tender moments of life, often blurring the lines between the two. His vivid imagery and compelling narratives offer an insightful look into the struggles and triumphs of ordinary people. 🌺 ✍️
The language in the book is elegant yet accessible, making it a joy to read. Qasmi's ability to blend poetic beauty with realism makes each story resonate on an emotional level, leaving readers with a sense of reflection and contemplation. 📜
However, the book's pace can sometimes feel slow, as the author focuses on detailed character studies rather than plot-driven action. Some readers may find certain stories a bit meandering or too introspective. ☀️
Overall, Kapaas ka Phool is a heartfelt work that captures the essence of human experience with sensitivity and grace. It is a must-read for those who appreciate deep, reflective storytelling. 📚
⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ for its emotional depth, beautiful prose, and thought-provoking themes.
This is, by far, my most favorite work of Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi. I read this in a newspaper first time, and this story deeply affected me. Kapas Ka Phool is written in the background of 1965 Indo-Pak War; an old woman and her sacrifices. The characterization, the scenario, the linking of plots, freshness, psychology; everything is the signature essence of Qasmi's writings.
