Maurice Leblanc (1864 - 1941) was a French novelist, best known as the creator of gentleman thief (later detective) Arsène Lupin.

Leblanc began as a journalist, until he was asked to write a short story filler, and created, more gallant and dashing than English counterpart Sherlock Holmes.

I have read and enjoyed several of the Arsene Lupin books. but I couldn't really get into this tale of borders and patriotism - I probably would have felt differently if I were in Alsace in 1912 though.

من الروايات ذات الاسلوب الكلاسيكي و تعجبني دائما بيئة الريف الأوربي و في هذه الرواية ريف أراضي الألزاس و اللورين و التي لطالما كانت ارض متنازع عليها و ساحة حرب بين الألمان و الفرنسيين.

عموماً ، حدث الرواية الرئيس فيما اذا كانت الحرب ستحصل أم لا و هناك تنوع في الشخصيات و طريقة تفكيرهم و مواقفهم تجاه الحرب
