This is not a book, but a wonderful audio/radio drama by Focus on the Family. I found a box-set of the series on Amazon and it was well-worth it. The story follows Luke, a 1st century physician sent from Rome to chronicle the life of Jesus. He embarks on a journey to find first-hand accounts of Jesus, the people he interacted with, and the miracles that occurred. Wonderful voice-acting!
