Olivia and Luc have a history. She ditched him years ago, but she did it for reasons known only to her. When their paths cross again ten years later, delight, regret, and a bit of shame for her lie haunt Olivia. She's Luc's dream woman, the one that got away, the one he's been trying to forget but can't. Their second chance at happiness is threatened by the reason for that first lie. Olivia must chose to continue the lie or come clean, only now there are serious repercussions to the lie. Either way, she'll hurt someone she loves.
I loved the themes of connection in this book and the way this author questioned the morality of lies. In addition, the author's insider knowledge of the medical community provided a snapshot of psychiatry that I found absorbing.
Olivia Crane is a psychiatrist of high standing. She has a good job, good life, wonderful child, and even a nice love life. Except she keeps each part of her life secret from the other parts. An ex lover Lucien George, who is also a psychiatrist, comes back into her life. He wants to rekindle the relationship and believes that Olivia does too. He discovers her secret and the reason she keeps pushing him away. Melissa is Olivia's daughter. She hid her when they dated 10 years ago. Olivia is scared that her abusive ex-boyfriend and Melissa's father, Jeremy, will find out about Melissa. I enjoyed the story and the characters. I didn't care for the sessions Olivia had with her patients. She let her personal life and fears judge her actions and recommendations to her patients.
Overall, I did like the story. Even if Olivia was not as smart with her personal choices that someone if her position should be.
Risk explores the damage lies can do to love in "No More Lies." Dr. Olivia Crane is a successful psychiatrist. Her world is turned upside down when her old boyfriend, Lucien George is invited to her university to consult. Will Olivia's lifelong lies interfere with her efforts to rekindle her relationship with Luc?
Set in contemporary Ohio, Risk places the reader in the middle of Olivia's problems right off the bat. Ten years prior, she had an intense romantic relationship with a French doctor, Luc George, but she called it off when she thought it interfered with her ability to keep her daughter, Melissa, safe. Luc is back now and all of Olivia's old feelings for him are rekindled.
Adding to Olivia's confusion is Melissa's father, Jeremy Rutherford, Olivia's ex-boyfriend. He showed no care or concern for her when he found out she was pregnant, so Olivia raised Melissa on her own with the help of her parents. Rutherford is now forced to seek psychiatric help for mental health issues. Olivia told her daughter her father was dead and a war hero in order to keep her safe from her abusive father. Now, however, as Olivia's lie threatens to unravel when Melissa expresses interest in her father, Olivia needs Luc's strength and support more than ever.
Luc is stunned to learn that Olivia never told him about her daughter. When he realizes the magnitude of Olivia's lies, he urges her to confess the truth to her daughter. Can Olivia find the courage to tell the truth and give Luc's love a second chance?
Risk's engaging plot pulls the reader effortlessly into the story. Risk handles the subject with grace and sensitivity.
The characters are wonderfully complex and dynamic. Luc is noble and honest to a fault, but his inner strength never fails Olivia when she needs him the most. Olivia has made a successful career for herself, but her determination to protect Melissa has driven her to lies which threaten her future. The supporting cast is a delightful compliment to Olivia and Luc's story and really demonstrates how rich and full their lives are.
Risk's writing is easy to read and pulls on the heartstrings. "No More Lies" presents a problem many face today. How Olivia handles her issues will offer hope to those who are dealing with similar circumstances.
The love scenes are sensual and tasteful, embodying a sweet hunger that has simmered between Olivia and Luc for years. "No More Lies," will resonate with readers and make them believe that love can overcome even the most challenging of obstacles.
Mona Risk writes an intriguing tale about two psychiatrists who were lovers ten years before, having to come back together and work at the same hospital. Olivia has never forgotten Luc, nor has he her, but she’d sent him away years before in order to be a better mother. With a new twist on the secret baby hook, Olivia has hidden the fact she was a mother of a six-year-old from Luc back when they dated and fell in love. Her child was a product of an abusive relationship and she wanted only to protect Melissa from her unstable father, even to the extent of letting go of the man she loved with all of her heart.
Luc has lived an empty life over the past ten years in France. He has chosen open relationships without commitment, only considering engagement as a convenient cover. Once he meets Olivia again, old longings stir. There are many secrets that must be uncovered and worked through before this couple can get back together. Melissa, the sixteen year old daughter, plays a big role in their healing process, as well as Olivia’s mother, who also offers some comic relief in this otherwise dramatic story.
Since the hero and heroine are both psychiatrists, it is interesting to sit in on some of the therapy sessions in the story, and the ending of this book is guaranteed to make the reader smile.
Okay, this book was actually fairly difficult for me to rate. Overall, I did enjoy the story. The characters were interesting, but lacking in a full fleshing out. I feel that the characters were developed enough for the story, but not enough to truly feel as if you could relate to them.
My glaring problem with this story was the psychology. Oh my. With every session that was written about, I couldn't help but think, "Dear God, you'd never say that!" I'm a pysch student, and perhaps that makes me a bit more in tune with what not to do and what to do more so than what may actually be done or not done, but there was just so much wrong with the way the sessions were going. Not to mention the huge ethical boundaries crossed when the hero started counseling the heroine. WOW! It was like these two doctors had absolutely no idea of what is and isn't ethical, as well as handing out advice like it's candy on Halloween.
Even with these issues that I had to grit my teeth and bear, I still enjoyed the story. I doubt I'd really recommend it though, just for the mere fact that it really puts therapists in the wrong light.
Note: I read this book as part of a box set, but reviewed each book separately.
A good book and a very romantic love story. In describing Jeremy Rutherford, Ms. Risk give a chilling portrayal of a man who, right or wrong, has to have his way. Other reviewers have said the portrayal of Olivia’s reactions aren’t realistic. Let me tell you: They are. Having been in this same situation, I reacted the same way Olivia did, though in my case, I ran 1500 miles away from the source of the threat.
Characterizations are spot-on and the hero, Luc, is a man we might all wish we could meet in real life. Though in the beginning, Olivia comes across as cruel in her treatment of him, once the cause is learned and the reason for her fear, her giving up everything, even the man she loves to protect her child doesn’t seem so cold after all.
It’s a good story, with a good hero and heroine and I recommend it
A single mother’s lie reverberates 16 years later as her daughter now wants to find her biological father.
The love of her life reappears in her life ten years later, both are now qualified psychiatrists. Luc returned to his home country of France after studying in the US but has never forgotten Olivia and now has a chance to work with her. Luc is adamant that honesty is always the best policy but Olivia keeps secrets. Repercussions occur when the truth is told.
I like the author’s writing style and have read other books from this author and enjoyed them.
This book was repetitive in places and for professional people they didn’t conduct themselves very discreetly.
There was enough mystery and upsets and romance to keep me reading.
This book, ugh, tormented me. I wanted to like it but I couldn't connect with the characters, I thought the story was too "story book" and I didn't enjoy the lines like "When would he be able to take her in his arms and taste the passion he'd missed so much?" [puke]
The story was about 2 psychologists who were once lovers 10yrs ago and now were reunited. Her lies about her past was what separated them years ago and now because their love never died, even after all these years, she forced, to face her past and come clean to keep the love she's been 'starved' of for the last 10 years... again puke.
Secrets and lies come back to bite you, somehow or other. Psychiatrist Dr. Olivia Crane has quite a few cracking secrets in her past that have to come to haunt her. If you’re fond of medical romances Mona Risk gives you sufficient medical jargon as Olivia is assisted by an old flame-a man she knew of as Luc George ten years ago. His name and title may have changed in the intervening years but the handsome Frenchman has returned to Cincinnati still with strong feelings for Olivia. Lucien’s patience wins through as he systematically breaks down Olivia’s barriers, absorbs and finds solutions to her secrets-eventually winning her trust and her heart.
Olivia Crane has a secret and every reason in the world to keep it - to protect her daughter, the most important person in her life. That's until Luc, the man she loved but let go ten years ago, walks back into her life. Suddenly her secrets threaten to destroy her and her carefully guarded world. Honor-driven Luc won't settle for anything less than the truth, but first Olivia has to learn how to trust again - not just Luc, but herself, her family, her daughter, and her heart. This is a lovely story about trust and redemption, told in Mona Risk's beautiful, poignant style.
If you love stories about lovers who loose each other and then find each other, you will love this one. What's not to love about a hunky, smart, French hero? Hold onto your heart strings with this one.
I received this while it was free, and was pleasantly surprised. Many of the free books are lacking in true content and editing...this is not one. The story has a good plot, and while there is romance, it's more about trust building.
This book was an "eh." I found the way the highly trained, skilled psycatrist (spelling?) strange that she couldn't cope/handle her own situation. Somewhat anti-climactic as well. It was a Kindle Freeby
I LOVED this story! I was slightly disappointed a certain confrontation didn't take place, but that would have thrown more irons into the fire:) Wonderful story of secrets, lies of protection, and a man's quest to help the woman he's always loved.
Dr. Olivia Crane has been hiding a secret of an abusive relationship with her daughter's father. She gave up a man 10 years before and now he is back and her secret is beginning to unravel. An easy read.
Solid love story. Nice easy read. If your a mom it makes you evaluate the links you go through for your child. Add a French lover and of course there's romance.
