I was a bit disappointed in Hide 'n Go Seek, the 2nd book in Dale Mayer's paranormal/psychic Series.

It's not that I hated the story but there were a couple of things that "irritated" me!
Let me begin with the highest irritation:

I am not a prude whatsoever...I am know to use the f./....@@@ word at times......but hell, did the two mc's go out all the way with all the f@##$%$% and ass@@@@@ and douche bags........okay, so if it's once or twice or even three times...but no, the two continue the verbal sparring using those words over and over and over again.......

Yes, Kali Jordan, well renowned search-and-rescue worker with psychic powers.....
 photo anigif_optimized-15502-1432402911-4_zpsvzunqhd4.gif
no, actually, she's a pretty committed worker with her adorable dog, Shiloh. Just that a couple of times I wanted to put a bar of soap in her and the hero, FBI agent, Grant Summers's mouths!!!

The story revolves around Kali being threatened by a serial killer, who sends her the most scary and frightening letters.

I wish there was more of a chemistry between the Kali and Grant.

I learnt a lot about rescue work........there were a lot and I mean a lot of pages about the ins and outs.

Will I continue reading this series? Yes, I think I'm going to.

It shows promise!!!

This is book 2 in the series. This has a different psychic and different way she uses her ability. She searches for victims of tragedies. She has a dog that helps her, too. But soon, the person who is killing the people she saves comes after her.

This book, like the first one in the series was packed with enough action, suspense and drama to keep me hooked from beginning to end! Although I'm not usually a 'paranormal romance' reader, I have to say that the way that Dale Mayer incorporates the main character's extraordinary abilities makes sense and is totally believable in the modern world - she's a normal human being with extra senses as opposed to someone otherworldly... I also love how the character grows into her abilities throughout the book - she has to work through her own issues as well as solving the deadly mystery, which lends an additional air of humanity to the story. I have to say that this time the whodunnit part had me... the plot twists and red herrings were well spaced and I fell into a few of the author's well laid traps while reading the book and thinking that I was way ahead of the game...

For me, this time the romance was more secondary to the suspense part of the story - although it was still intense, and if you are someone who doesn't like to go past 'blush' in their romance, then you won't want to go for this book - it gets pretty steamy!

(I received this book at no cost to me for the purpose of writing a review on my blog, www.actingbalanced.com - all opinions are my own.)

In case I forget what's this about: Kali is a psychic whose talent is becoming stronger very fast. From a feeling where the various victim are buried in natural and man-caused catastrophes it is turning to full visions. Now she paints the events before they happen.
She works as a search and rescue worker with her dog Shiloh and their record is great, but now someone has decided that Kali had interfered with what God wants and he is bent on 'fixing' that.

It's a great idea for a paranormal story unless you count the heroine who is too stupid most of the time, incompetent FBI agents, unresolved issues with one of the characters, unbelievable romance and so on. That half a star goes to a nice little twist in the end and Stefan (maybe his book will be more interesting).

'Hide'n Go Seek' was absolutely thrilling. I was drawn in from the beginning and couldn't let go. The storyline was amazing. Well written and well thought out. The storyline itself was full of suspense, thrilling scenarios, exciting psychic abilities and romance. Kali was a great lead. Passionate, caring, dedicated and an all around beautiful person. Grant was very understanding when it came to how Kali worked. Stefan is an awesome character. I love his abilities and his giving nature. A great addition to a fantastic series, 'A Psychic Visions'. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended.

Safety info, content warnings and tropes down below.

My third time reading this one. I had access to the audiobook, and I love psychic characters, so of course had to listen. It’s a solid — if not predictable — mystery, and some lovely mortal peril. It’s not my favorite by the author, but still a solid novel. There’s not much to the romance, which is a shame, because Grant is a great MMC.

Anyway. Still very enjoyable.

3 Stars... This read started out with more potential than the first book in the series... The writing style was organized and clearer in it’s content... I found myself engaged in the read and eager to continue... However, as in the previous read, the second half of the book became somewhat sloppy in the storytelling adding in content that was unnecessary and distracting slowing the momentum of the storyline... Also, the romance, which had strong potential initially, fell flat for me... The mystery was intriguing and held some twists and turns that surprised me, but the overall approach to storytelling needs refined... I think I will try one more book in the series to see if things improve; if not then I will end this series.:)

As the second installment of the “Psychic Visions” series, Dale Mayer does not disappoint. Kali Jordan, famed search and rescue worker, has been hiding her psychic abilities from everyone as long as she could remember. Lately, the abilities have been getting stronger and unbeknownst to Kali, her success has caught the eye of a deranged soul. Suddenly, Kali and Shiloh, her rescue dog is in serious danger

After receiving chilling letters from the serial killer, Kali has to work with FBI Special agent Grant Summers, a man who feels a strong bond with Kali even though they have only met once. As the chemistry flows between them, Kali and Grant race to stop the lunatic. Grant is determined to protect Kali and Shiloh at all costs.

This was a wonderful second installment! From the beginning to the end, Ms. Mayer takes the reader on a thrill ride. Until the end, the identity of the killer is a guessing game. The development of the story and the characters is great and the drama is top notch. I highly recommend this book if you a fan of thrillers, mystery and romance because this has it all!

I had such high hopes for this series but as it stands I liked the first book better and that was meh for me. I alternated between not feeling anything and then getting annoyed with Kali in the end. The premise was good but I felt so distanced from the character and the story. All the while I kept thinking that I bet "this person" was the murderer and I got it right. could have been so much better. Not that bad but then not that good either. Will have to drop the series for now.

I loved this book. The mystery was good, the story hooked you in, and the characters made you take interest in the outcome. This book wasn't heavy on romance, but what there was of it was sweet and made you root for Grant the entire book. If you like mystery/crime with a paranormal spin (no vamps or weres), this book is for you.

I had issues here. A lot of them. But I also read this in little bits over the whole day and now I can't really remember most of them. My biggest complaint is the heroine. Man, oh man. This woman has zero confidence, she minimizes everything she does, and she devalues all her contributions. She was offensively TSTL and spent more time ogling the hero's friend than she did on developing her psychic talents that could be saving lives and helping solve murders. I hated her.

I didn't learn much about the hero... didn't I say that about the previous book in this series? It looks like this is gonna be the formula - cardboard cutout heroes paired with heroines that get all the character development. You know what? I'm okay with that in this genre.

I liked the previous book - I liked that the heroine was very accepting of her gift and knew she needed to control it. I did not like this book so much and a large part of that was due to the heroine having no real interest in mastering her gift. She was like "Nah, I can't help. I only found a dead body last time, I'm not psychic." Like.. yeah, you are. Fucking own it. Use it. Stop being such a wimp.

So yeah. Not recommended? But I love psychics, so I'll give the rest of the series a shot.

Kali Jordan dedicates all her waking hours in contributing to the Second Chance SAR center where she works in more ways than one. Armed with her Labrador Retriever Shiloh, Kali is blessed with “The Sight” as her grandmother called it, something that frustrates Kali as much as it helps her in accurately pinpointing out those in need of rescue. However, her work and dedication to what she does doesn’t come with its own price. The loss of lives and the delicate balance between life and death brings her down and Kali is someone who feels these emotions a lot more than she lets on.

Things take a turn when someone starts on a mission to give the “survivors” what they deserve, the killer believing that it is against God’s will to rescue them in the first place. Thus the killer embarks on a mission to taunt and elude Kali, to bring out to the open the witchery that guides her to be as successful as she is at what she does.

FBI agent Grant Summers enters her life at this inopportune moment. From the first meeting itself, Kali feels deep inside of her that Grant is someone she has met before but has no recollection of whatsoever. The way she takes comfort in Grant’s company is one reason why she doesn’t get freaked out of the way her senses go on high alert whenever Grant is around. But before anything can happen between them, Kali needs to find the killer who is willing to do whatever it takes to bring Kali to her very knees, even if it means making use of innocent victims to teach Kali a lesson that she would never forget.

Hide’N Go Seek is a novel that flows smoothly right from the very start. I believe this is the first book I have read in which a heroine is in the profession of Search and Rescue and Dale certainly sheds light on a lot of aspects involved in the back breaking work that these heroic individuals embark on, putting their very lives on the line with each mission. The toll it takes on their physical and emotional well being is one that Dale has pulled off very well and I for one immensely enjoyed this aspect of the story.

Kali and Grant are both likable characters. I believe the author has spent more time on developing and bringing across Kali’s character and her life much more than Grant and that was one factor that disappointed me a bit in the story. I wanted Grant’s character to take as much limelight as Kali and I wanted to know where he was coming from, his past and what shapes up his character. Nevertheless, both characters come across as the sort you can depend upon, their inherent need to see justice meted out one of the characteristics that drew me towards them.

The mystery/suspense potion of the story was quite well done. I had my finger on who the killer could be, and I was right in my choice as well. Maybe I have watched too many movies with twists and turns to really be surprised by any villain that comes across any longer. But Dale has certainly spun a well balanced story in terms of the mystery, suspense and the paranormal aspects embedded to make the story that unfolds that much more interesting.

One of the factors that irked me a bit was the lack of romance between Grant and Kali even by half way into the book. With 400+ pages, I found that I wanted that connection between Grant and Kali to come to life, the need that seems to pulse between them to be realized before the whole story reached its eventual climax. In the end, through all the twists and turns the story took, Kali and Grant eventually managed to get there on their own time, and the concluding chapter when it came served as a satisfactory ending to a story that was interesting, highly readable and enjoyable. Recommended for fans of Dale Mayer and fans of mystery/suspense novels with a bit of romance and paranormal in the mix.

Much like the first book in this series, I was sucked in immediately. Kali is an extraordinary woman who does some incredibly draining, emotional work and it's taken its toll on her. She's emotionally distanced herself from those around her when her formerly low-key psychic abilities begin to ramp up. She has no one to turn to about this and combined with a tragedy she witnessed 6 months before, she's a bit of a wreck.

I really liked the dynamic between Grant and Kali. Grant knew he wanted to get to know her better the first time he saw her years before but the timing wasn't right and they never connected. Now, he's in her life and the more he sees the more he clearly knows that he wants her. Of course, nothing's ever easy when you're trying to woo a woman in the middle of a murder investigation and Mr. Serial Killer throws up several roadblocks for the potential couple.

The tension is high, the action moves quickly and the chemistry between Grant and Kali singes. Plus, there's a dog. How can you resist a hardworking dog who finds dead bodies? Answer: You can't.

Renowned search-and-rescue worker has always had a sort of sixth sense, a strange feeling that always helped her find things. Her grandma called it the 'Sight'. After a particularly bad rescue experience in Mexico, her 'Sight' leads her to discover bodies that died a violent death at the hands of man. Instead of outing her weird psychic abilities and calling unwanted attention to herself, a guarded and cautious Kali gives all the credit for recoveries to her dog, Shiloh. But some find her track record suspicious, and her profession ungodly. Threatening letters begin the deadly game of hide & go seek and eventually friends become victims. It is up to Kali to find them before it is too late. But can FBI agent Grant keep her safe before the killer turns his sights on Kali?

Suspense-filled plot, paranormal elements, romance, great cast of characters. Will definitely check out more in this series.

Kali has the Sight, but keeps her secret well hidden behind the heroics of her search and rescue dog, Shiloh. The two make a great pair…until a serial killer with an unusual agenda comes along and threatens Kali’s safety and her secret.

Grant wants to stop the killer and keep Kali and Shiloh safe, but until Kali confesses the truth about her gift, he’s fighting a tough battle. Kali’s also an independent gal who doesn’t like having the FBI invade her life any more than she likes the killer using her as a pawn in his game.

Kali and Grant have an interesting push-pull relationship and Shiloh is a great dog character, adding a nice element to the story. The killer is downright scary and the ending is a surprise. If you like serial killers, dogs and/or psychics, this is one book you won’t want to miss.

Search&Rescue worker has "sights" of hidden victims, but to cover her psychic ability she claims her S&A dog sniffs them out. A lunatic kills disaster victims after they were rescued because God wanted them dead to begin with, right?
The book was highly unrealistic, the romance forced: FBI agent saw her seven years ago at a seminar and fell in love with her, saw her energy, blablabla. She is drawn to his energy on first sight. Neither really acts on it, and the woman thinks too much, many skipped pages. And the enigmatic Stefan, Guru of all people with psychic abilities, is helping in the weirdest ways. He is so good, he can help safe a dog .... but not a human victim, go figure. I just took another star off my rating ;)

I have really enjoyed this series so far. Read the first book and loved it ... started reading this second book and loved it ...

While reading this book I got the third book in the series and found out that there is a fourth... So glad it's continuing ...

A great romantic suspense that keeps you guessing till the end!!! I love the way Dale pairs the Psychic with her pet and then adds a bit of romance. I can't wait to read more books by Dale Mayer!!!

Great Author but she swears!

I'm not prudish. F**ng Hell is necessary sometimes. Using Jesus and Christ however grates on my nerves. Why do people cheapen a great story with needless insensitivity? Ms. Mayer has an excellent story. It was a five star until she put Jesus and the F word together in bed. It makes me angry. Now, instead of seeking out more of her work, I'm throwing her in the slush pile. I don't have time for that. If you're swearing, just swear traditionally and don't bring revered figures into the plot line.

Kali Jordan along with her dog Shiloh have gained a reputation in the Search and Rescue (SAR) world. Part of that is Shiloh's skills but the other part is unknown to the rest of the world. Kali's grandmother called it sight, for Kali it was a bit different. She could sense where to look, but it was Shiloh who could tell if the person was living or dead. At least that's what Kali thought.

The book opens with a disaster site in Mexico, where Kali and several others are searching for survivors. They find one, but as they are trying to get the child out, another aftershock hits devastating the entire area and injuring Kali. We sort of meet the bad guy in the aftermath of this event. We as readers get to know his mindset but not who.

FBI agent Grant Summers is a fan of Kali's. He and his brother had been very active with a SAR team in Maine until their paths took them elsewhere although they both keep up their certifications. He has admired Kali from afar ever since he attended a lecture given by her years ago. He'd been new to the energy signs at that time but there was a sense of rightness between them. It's as he's reading an article about her and Shiloh that Stefan calls him and tells him that he will see her soon, plus she has abilities and he should also ask to see her paintings.

For Kali things changed after Mexico with regard to her 'gift'. Everything becomes more intense, and she's seeing ribbons of energy and really can't refer to it as intuition. She also does some painting, and sometimes it's her 'gift' that controls the brush.

Once Kali has returned home, the killer decides to up his game and involve Kali in it by placing a letter on her doorstep. This escalates even more when another letter turns up at the center. With Grant involved as well they try to understand exactly what the letters mean, but Kali and Shiloh head out to Sacramento and a mudslide. There she sees the funky energy and with Shiloh's help and a couple of witnesses she finds another victim, not of the slide but murder.

On her return home she finds Grant waiting for her along with someone she hasn't met, Stefan Kronos.

As Kali realizes the connection to the her painting, she becomes even more concerned she'd be considered a suspect. Her visions are ramping up too and with Stefan's help she is discovering ways to get more information from them.

Her connection to Grant also intensifies going from a simmer to sizzle over the course of the investigation.

A page-turning read, with intrigue, suspense and surprises.

Kali Jordon is a celebrated search and rescue specialist with her trusty dog Shiloh. However, Kali has a secret - The Sight inherited from her grandmother allows her to trace the energy to find people on her own - especially if they are victims of violence (especially murder). She is able to keep this secret until a twisted killer decides to challenge her to a game of "hide and go seek" which threatens those who are closet to her. Now she has to rely on FBI Special Agent Grant Summers who has sworn to protect her (even though he believes there is more to Kali and Shiloh's success than meets the eye. As the killer closes his net tighter and tighter around Kali and Grant there is absolutely no place to hide. Can they both keep each other alive and find something special at the same time?

This was a great mystery story with a psychic twist as a madman decided to act God and dish out death as he decided was deserved by innocent people. Through it all Kali struggled to master her psychic skills as well as handle the closeness of another person in her life. I loved the way that Grant did everything he could to be strong while also learning that a strong and feisty woman is not great at taking orders. Well written and very enjoyable I was kept guessing as to know the killer was right up to the final confrontation at the end of the story. This will definitely become addictive as you work through the various candidates and eliminate them.

Book two in the series introduces us to a new couple.
Kali Jordan is a search and rescue specialist. She and her dog Shiloh have an amazing record when it comes to rescues, and recoveries in disaster zones.
While Shiloh may do the bulk of the work, Kali has her own special gifts; gifts that allow her to find the victims of violence. Gifts that, over the past few months, seem to be strengthening and changing, and gifts that have put her squarely in the crosshairs of a madman.
FBI Agent Grant Summers has his own abilities. A friend of the psychic Stefan Kronos, he has come to understand those with gifts like Kali; and having met and been impressed with her years before, he is determined to make sure she survives.

This paranormal suspense thriller has an interesting cast of characters. The heroine is unusual enough for me to have remembered her for years after having first read this book, while the hero is a strong, supportive companion for her.
Of course we get a few cameos from Stefan, as well as some more examples of his immense abilities; some of which Kali shares.
There is plenty of tension and suspense, and a pretty decent mystery at the heart of it all.
All in all, this is another great read for those who enjoy their romantic suspense with a little paranormal added to it.

I like that even though the book basis is the same of police officer with a psychic, the ideas are still very individual. Kali using her ability to search for people in disaster sites under the guise of her search dog. Her burn-out and tired soul is well written, fitting with the horror of her career choice. Much like the first book, the book has romance with Kali and Grant, and sex, but as a minor component to a much larger, darker plot. This plot is a mystery where you can guess who it is. The killer's POV and the obsession he has with Kali give clues. I was pleasantly surprised by the identity, he was my choice until about halfway through the book when I changed my mind. Once you find out, you realise there were breadcrumbs through the book. Kali explains it in a way that makes sense: the trauma of the job cause Kali to internalise it and isolate herself, while the trauma cause the killer's mind to fracture tied with his strong religious beliefs caused this. The regular exposure to death desensitised him to violence. The death's may not be as extreme as the first book, but they're still a lot and the killer enjoys it. My issue is Grant's former link to Kali. She may be okay with it, but I found it incredibly creepy.

Hide 'n Go Seek by Dale Mayer
Psychic Visions Series Book Two
Kali Jordan and Shiloh, her SARs dog, do their job extremely well. When someone realizes that it may be more than Shiloh's expert skills that are finding live survivors, they decide to prove it. Suddenly, Kali is part of a game she doesn't want to play. No one can possibly know she has abilities that help her find people. Nobody. But apparently, someone does.

FBI Grant Summers had “met” Kali seven years earlier at a seminar and has never forgotten her. When she's suddenly in trouble and a family friend asks him for his help—he's there. Finally, he has the chance to get to know this woman who's stayed with him for so long in his mind...but life isn't slowing down enough for that.

Great stories that really take me on an emotional ride as they pull me in. There is the romance...but the characters have to find a murderer to get to it. I love Stephan. He's been in the first two books and is such a unique character.

There might be some spoilers so beaware.
So this story is about a search and rescue worker who uses her psychic abilities to rescue people. And there is our mmc who is a no-nonsense fbi agent. Their paths get crossed when a twisted game of hide and seek starts.

Now my review:

While Dale Mayer's 'Hide'n Go Seek' intrigued me from the get-go, I found certain narrative decisions disconcerting. The casual acceptance(kind of) of Julie's affair with a married man was vexing and the story lacks important answers, such as critical details about Julie's relationship with the married man and was the guy Brad or someone else and how did she got kidnapped ? The main character kali is too stubborn and said some things that hurted the mmc too. Despite these flaws, the MMC was the saving grace of the plot. In conclusion, while I was engrossed, the absence of emotional intensity and loose ends made it a average read. Hence, I rate it 3 stars. And although the story was amazing but the plot is kind of forgetful too. I already know I will forget this after some time. But I am glad I choose to read this book.

This book was basically the exact same plot as the first but with a slightly different psychic power. Right down to the cop/woman romance. I felt the sex was thrown in just so there was some and it didn’t flow into the story.
I found myself bored because it was so similar to the first story and I absolutely hate Stefan. The reaction all the woman have to him, oh he is so good looking. What a load of crap!!! For me the characters had no depth and I found kali to be up herself, only hanging out with married men so they didn’t try it on with her. Obviously had a high opinion of herself.
The cop was bland and a little over bearing for me. Constantly having a go at Kai, look it she liked a man to control her ok but I feel like they wouldn’t have a very good relationship if this was real life.
Not impressed, maybe the next book will be better. But I doubt it.

This second book in the series introduces new characters, almost like a stand-alone book, except for the psychic Stephen, but the dynamics were pretty much the same. A beautiful girl, Kali, who is a search and rescue worker, knows she has special powers, but has never really figured out what they are or how to use them, until a murderer targets her. Then she starts discovering and using her unique psychic abilities. Grant, the FBI agent assigned to protect her, turns out to be a friend of Stephen and doesn't balk at any of it, but rather is very good-looking, understanding, and protective.
Of course, they eventually fall in love. In the second half of the book, there was a lot of distracting action that didn't really add to the story and seemed to slow the flow, but the end wrapped up quickly, as did the first book. Entertaining, but predictable.

Targeted by a madman...

...but how many will die before Kali is able to solve the puzzle.
Kali has always kept her 'talents' hidden, not even her best friend or surrogate father know about them.....but someone has found out and he is determined to discredit and outwit Kali at every turn. A horrifying game of hide and seek that haunts Kali as those closest to her are targeted and picked of one by one, this is one game of cat and mouse that proves deadly. But if Grant has anything to say about it, it will be the cat that dies. Grant was awestruck by Kali the first time he met her, but each new revelation steals another part of his heart, each new skill uncovered impresses him more and every tear she sheds brings him to his knees. I love that the journey Kali and Grant take just strengthens their bond, a bond and chemistry that cannot be denied, no matter how bad the timing.
