I wanted to like this book about older women defining their sexuality but I had a hard time liking either of the main characters. Most of the book is in flashback form with Ellie and Helen and their pre-teen/teen years and what happened to them in small town America. The reconnect after the death of Ellie's mother. There is suspected child abuse/incest, there is the fumbling of youth relationships, bad boys and unhappiness. Then there is verbal domestic violence and there is lots of angst. Just an unhappy book and story even if they finally figure out what their relationship should and could be. I'll give the author another try in an additional book just to ensure its not the writing or just the subjects.

This is a mature age book, a flip from childhood to adulthood and vice versa. The author's plots were also thought provoking and the ending unusual (never leading you to happily ever after but also inciting hope)
