When Cheryl Trinidad's lover Mickey runs off with another woman, Mickey's sister Elaine is quick to offer support. Secretly in love with Cheryl for years, Elaine hopes she'll finally have a chance to win Cheryl's heart. But will she? Mickey's fling will soon be over and she'll want Cheryl back...in the worst way.
Peggy J. Herring lives on seven acres in south Texas with her cockatiel, hermit crabs, two wooden cats and several chickens. When she isn't writing Peggy enjoys traveling. She is the recipient of an Alice B. Medal and author of over a dozen romantic novels.
Elaine has always had a crush on her sister's girlfriend Cheryl. Now that her sister cheated and left Cheryl, this is Elaine's time to finally woo the girl. It was cheesy romance that moved at lightning speed. They slept together a few times right after Cheryl's ex left and suddenly they were all 'I love you, let's move in together, and also marriage thoughts?' Maybe follow the title and 'wait' a bit.
“Good things happen to those who wait, Dr. Marcaluso. And you’re way overdue for this one.” “That’s not what I remember you saying years ago,” Elaine reminded her. “Your philosophy then, was that nothing happens to those who wait.”

I read this last night while looking after my mum who's in hospital — I found some sort of refuge from this little book: it's light, funny, hot, and at times outrageous but I hungrily finished it one sitting. I enjoyed it, the mushiness of it, the cheese and the sap, and the simplicity of it.
It felt great being inside their world (one that isn't mine, and I'm not in) even for a couple of hours. It felt refreshing.
Had I been in a different situation, and read this book under a different circumstance, I think I'd be a little cruel with my review...but I read this in the right time, when I'm most in need of a tonic. And a tonic it was.
Cheryl calls her partner's mother in the early hours of the morning when she realises Mickey still isn't home. Blanche goes over immediately and finds a note written to Cheryl: "I'm in Mexico with my new lover. I'll be back in a week. We'll talk then".
Cheryl is devastated and angry. Blanche's other daughter and sister to Mickey, Elaine, has been carrying a torch for Cheryl for years. Those Who Wait has all the elements for a great read and on the whole is a lot of fun and a nice story. However, it burns out a bit at about the 80% mark. The story is moving along, there is great chemistry, some good sex scenes, impending angst and then everything levels out like a deflating balloon.
Our heroine has just retired from the military and is hoping for a quiet life running an antique shop in San Antonio. Little does she know! In the world of lesbian romance, Herring is right up at the top of the heap with Karin Kallmaker.
