The Dracons' Woman

Rate this book
One day Lariah Daniels is a beautiful but shy historical librarian on Earth. The next, she is fleeing across the stars from a sadistic crime lord who will stop at nothing to hunt her down and torture her for information about her sister, a psychic undercover agent for a shadowy intelligence organization. Lariah selects as her safe haven the distant, pastoral world of Jasan, known for its peaceful, rural setting, and the practice of its shifter inhabitants of mating three of their men to one human woman.

Upon arriving on Jasan, Lariah learns that all is not as it seems. In the company of three incredibly gorgeous brothers she finds herself caught up in a world of danger, interstellar intrigue, and otherworldly desire and it is revealed to her that she may be the fulfillment of a mysterious prophesy, and the key to the survival of the Jasani race. Lariah must choose between preserving her identity as a human being or following a dangerous path that may lead to her true destiny: being soul-linked to the Royal Princes of Jasan, and finding eternal love that reaches across the stars.

The Dracons' Woman is a thrilling, fast-paced fantasy of love, desire, and galactic adventure that will have your heart pounding and your blood racing.

WOW! I picked this book up and didn't set it down until I was done at 3:00 am! Dracons' Woman is very well done. Scifi alien shapeshifter menage. The author has started building a world and people you really want to know more about. I love erotic romance set on different worlds with alpha males who really know how to love their woman. This was a well rounded story with plenty of smoking sex scenes, mystery, and intrigue all set on an alien planet. If you enjoy scifi romance and you're men to come in multiples you won't be disappointed.

The book started out strong and then I started losing interest about halfway through. For very strong men, they were pretty touchy-feely. Sometimes this is okay, but I didn't really like it here. I liked the premise though and so I'm going to keep reading the series hoping that the books get incrementally better.

A 3.5. First it loses a half a star for the cheesy cover, but don't be deterred by the cover.

This is an alien RH. I grave it credit because the plot is interesting enough to make me want to read the next book in the series. The writing could be better and I am hoping it improves as the series goes on. If book 2 is not a little bit better than this one I will have to stop reading the series....

I liked it. It was good brain candy and I'll definitely continue the series, but I can't say I loved it. I really enjoyed the world and the premise, though.

Extremely pleased right now.

Lately I have been going from one shifter book to the next and while few of them were bad, none pulled me in and gave me something new and exciting. Then I found this book and what a gem it turned out to be. The sex was hot but didn't take over the whole story. The men were strong but loving. The information was given in a way that didn't leave me feeling like my head was going to explode but rather evenly distributed.

Even though it set up for further books it didn't necessarily feel like a cliffhanger but simply entices me to continue with the story. I'm off to read book two now.

I fully recommend this book to anyone looking for something a bit different in a shifter series.

4 1/2--5 stars. I was going through my TBR pile looking for something different. I had just read a book from one of my favorite authors I preordered, and was greatly looking forward to--and hating it. So I decided to go in a totally different direction and just pick something I already had, and had no no idea what to expect. I am so glad I did. I admit it was the cover that made me choose this one--totally different from the usual romance covers you come across today. I also admit I expected something on the benign--almost boring side. What I got was the total opposite. I found this story to be well written, with a descriptive, but not confusing back story, great characters, a suspenseful plot, and even a steamy ménage relationship. This last thing is what surprised me the most--I find most stories of this type to revolve around the actual sex scenes. This book did have very spicy intimate parts, but it did not take center stage which I prefer. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good alpha male/dragon shapeshifter/sci-fi(ish) romance. I am buying the second in the series right now!

I love sci fi/menage romance novels. i really do. but lets be honest, the story plots of books in this genre don't usually run all that deep. I'm up to the 4th book of this series now (in just 3 days) and I must say this is DEFINITELY one of the BEST sci fi romance series I have ever read. right on par with Evangeline Anderson's Kindred series (or maybe even better). I CANNOT wait to read more. I picked up this book at random for some light reading since another book I've been hankering after doesn't come out till 31 Mar. This first book was great on its own and the plot gets progressively more interesting after every book. to say that this was a pleasant surprise would be a massive understatement. As an avid romance reader who can confidently say I have read thousands of romance novels of almost every genre, I just wanted to end this review by stating that Laura Jo phillips, you are officially one of my new favourite authors! :)

This is the first book in The Soul-Linked Saga. Warning: these books are multiple partner books. Three brothers and one wife. The stories are very good and the characters are wonderful. It's sort of a fantasy/sci fi mix.The men are shape shifters and there are clans of each shifter group -Dracons, Lobos, Katres, Bearons, Gryphons and a few others that may or may not be extinct! The heroines are kick butt when they need to be and develop into quite well rounded women who love their men, their babies and their new adopted planet.

There are fiendish adversaries and plots within plots. The series develops through each book and I am waiting with bated breath for #5 The Gryphons' Dream. Oh! There are also some very steamy love scenes and I used the word love on purpose because these aren't gratuitous sex scenes.

Try them ... bet that you like them ;)

I'm torn on exactly what to write for this review. The story has a good premise and the the worlds are well developed. The characters are very likeable and the villains you dislike, those goals are achieved by the author. The dialogue is very one dimensional and is at best corny. I know this is supposed to be a planet of men and they would cherish the females. But come on, No man talks like that, to a woman and is that in touch with his feelings. Especially ones that are described as masculine as these are. At points in the book I had to control my eye roll! You may ask why I kept reading, well the story is different and I keep hoping the writing will improve with each book!

This was pretty good and I really really liked it. I'm surprised this series isn't more popular. To be honest, I think I even liked it better than the Brides of Kindred series. The writing was better. The plotline flowed better. The editing was better. It was just better.

Maybe it's these horrible covers... tsk tsk tsk people. Now, what did yo mama tell you about judging books? :)

This has to be my favourite book I've ever read....and I've read a LOT

I love the in depth detail of the characters and world this author brings to life. You feel like you really know and care for the people and beings written about. I especially like how the characters from the rest of the series are interlinked with the plot in this first book so you already know them. I can't wait to read the next in this awesome series.

Note: includes BDSM themes including spanking to pain, and pain with touch. Its too bad as that gets in the way of a great storyline. I won't be reading more.

Another book I read some time ago in fact the whole series is phenomenal.

Lariah Daniels is a beautiful but shy historical librarian on Earth. The next, she is fleeing across the galaxy from a sadistic crime lord who will stop at nothing to hunt her down and torture her for information about her sister, a psychic undercover agent for a shadowy intelligence organization.
The Dracons' Woman is a thrilling, fast-paced reverse harem fantasy of love, desire, and galactic adventure that will have your heart pounding and your blood racing. It is the book that started it all--the first volume of the highly-rated million-word plus "Soul Linked Saga," an epic reverse harem series in which a rich story arc driven by a series of individual romances unfolds over eight thrilling volumes, each of which will stir your heart and warm your blood.
-----------------------------
There's been a lot of complaints about the number of books in the series, which is why I always wait no matter how long it takes until they are all out before I touch any of them.
I once read a book so good but it was a two-parter and she never finished it, she went onto write more books just b=never finished it and that was it for me,
--------------------------------------
When Lariah Daniels arrives on the planet Jasan, a shadow of her former self, nervous and scared she hopes with all her heart that those responsible for the ordeal she is still recovering from never find her.
Having dream t of 3 fur covered dragons all her life, plus her secret desire for three men, Jasan seems the perfect place to hide; especially as women are not only scarce and treated with the greatest of care by the Jasani, each woman is always mated to identical triplets.
When Lariah is kidnapped on arrival to Jasan, her old injuries hamper her ability to call for help or offer any strong resistance. As fate would have it, Lariah is destined for a very special role on Jasan. When her scent is picked up by Garen Dracon and his brothers Treyen and Valen, it triggers a Jasani reaction that hasn't been seen in thousands of years. Against outrageous odds the Dracon brothers have met the woman made specifically for them, a woman capable of uniting their souls and bearing their children.
This is pure fantasy romance at its best. Laura Jo Phillips weaves a tail of magic, The bedroom scenes always involve Lariah and the 3 brothers together, so you get some steamy action as she learns to accommodate 3 lovers at once, but not once does it feel sleazy despite the explicit details. The fantasy elements are pure escapism, but with plenty of punchy action. I have a great deal of respect for an author that can make me cry as I cry very little, she not only manages it with this book, but also with the next 2 as well. The dialogue lacked a little sophistication at times, but this is easily forgiven as the characters and their reactions to certain events escalate the emotional drama. I love discovering these books and the wonderful characters and plots entwined, that take me through an array of emotions, I'm even more happier knowing I have all the books in the series so I don't have to wait for the next book . I guarantee that by the end of book 3 you'll understand why there has to be 9 books in this series.
For fantasy, angst love menage and pure enjoyment you can not go wrong with this series.

Different

The series is a bit like Firefly. Not the whole space pirate part but that it is a mix up of futuristic and rustic. Everyone is space faring, planet Jasan just happens to be a farming planet. World building in the series is odd. Earth seems to be an over populated barren wasteland and somehow revealing clothing is bad. Other planets embrace technology but Jasan is content with magic enhanced basics. Males and females are born in 3s, triplets of a sort. The males remain together their whole lives as they all 3 share a soul. Females each have their own and bond to a male-set, a set of triplets. This story focuses on a (believed to be) Earth female on the run from evil men who tortured her (no rape, thank goodness, and the actual details of the torture are glossed over so I would say no real need for trigger warnings). She escapes to Jasan and is rescued/claimed by 3 ranchers/princes. Best line: "I'm a one fork kind of girl!" Not a bad book but there are some odd or off things in it.

**Spoilers:
*If near immortal humanoids landed on Earth, especially thousands of years ago, how have they remained hidden? Maybe that's discussed in the rest of the series?
*There could have been some amazing creatures described here. Instead we get leopard spotted fuzzy dragons, horned panthers and zebra stripped wolves. With a real chance at world building we could have seen (read about) some really amazing and unusual animals. It was a missed opportunity in my opinion.
*The scientific part of me wants to know more about how these triplets are created since they are not truly identical. The females only ovulate once a year, or a decade after a pregnancy-successful or not. So, 1 egg magically split or 3 eggs since the far spaced ovulation?
*Ok, I know magic is supposed to be involved but think about placement of 3 guys on 1 girl. Only 1 would be ringing the right doorbell to fertilize an egg but we're to believe it takes all 3 donating to achieve the end goal? The scene described seems to claim everything winds up in the womb via a golden light even though 2 guys would be ringing the wrong doorbell to say hello to an egg or 3.
This isn't a bad book, don't get me wrong. I'm intrigued enough, despite the oddities, to read the next. I just have a lot, a lot, of questions. Hopefully they will be answered in the next book.
I gave this a 3 instead of 4 stars because I believe the lost chance at world building could have really elevated this story, and series, exponentially. I know when they said shifters I was hoping for some truly exotic alien animals. Mildly altered/mix-matched Earth creatures was a bit of a let down. The romance was ok, grammar only a few things off-not enough to yank you out of the story. It's a complete HEA, no cliffhanger but does give enough to set up for the next book in the series.

The writing is - how to politely put it - on par with a thirteen-year-old writing her/his first (possibly second) fan fiction. Telling not showing. Describing everything and everybody - repeatedly. Helpfully explaining everyone's thoughts and reactions in excruciating detail. And so on.

I could and have forgiven some of that and carried on a bit longer just out of curiosity and mild masochism. But no.

In the beginning of the book the (fluffy, yes fluffy) dragon shifter triplets save their "fated mate" from a kidnapping attempt during which her arm was broken. They take her to a healer who works some miracles on her and then, as she has gone to use the bathroom, proceeds to relating HER ENTIRE PRIVATE MEDICAL HISTORY of being severely tortured and still healing from horrific physical and mental wounds, to her so called mates. Translation - to three dudes who met her a hot minute ago.

I gritted my teeth and powered on.

So the trio overrides the girl's objections and take her to their RANCH (oh, and those shifter-aliens are also wearing stetsons, because why not) instead of a hotel.

In the morning the girl wakes up, decides to take a bath. The housekeeper does not see her in her room and instead of maybe checking the bathroom, goes and gives a panicky report to the triplets. Who eventually end up bursting into the bathroom as the girl is getting out of the bath.

And then promptly proceed to three-on-one BDSM play. On a trauma victim. Who they just met a day before. After she had once again been kidnapped and hurt.

Aa-aand I was done.

This author has many books out and it seems this particular one is one of her earliest if not the first one. Still, it has good reviews and a lot of her other books seem plenty popular with mainly positive feedback. OK, the covers are terrible but I have learned to mostly ignore that for self-pub books. I have read some real gems with awful covers.

Out of perverse intrigue I will probably check out one her later books to see if the writing had improved because surely it had to, with practice and all.

I love to read a book that provokes thought, and with this compelling series, Laura Jo Phillips does just that. If you have not read this book or others in the series, please be alerted that some suppliers follow. If you haven't read this series but enjoy a good romance and sci-fi with a touch of drama thrown in, you need to read this!

Here comes a spoiler or two! I think what's great about Lariah as the main female character in the story is her transformation from powerless to powerful female. I think often time authors make the mistake of thinking that a female character can only ever be powerful, but I think it's much more powerful to have her show her Humanity, which is often shown in a small amount of weakness. And I think it's interesting that in this book Phillips does a great job of bringing about this change not immediately, but throughout the plot of the book.

Philips also does a great job of straying from the archetype of the typical heroine. Lariah is all things feminine, but beneath that feminine beauty is her strength. To see her transition be completed with the love from her three men, is completely refreshing this day in age. I think too often women get caught up in the need to have Independence to see that sometimes it's okay to have a man either be your strength or be the way you find your strength.

The writing was "easy on the eye", so to speak. The world was well detailed and the history very well described, so I did not have any problems getting into the story. I enjoyed the plot line and the direction the story took, plus the characters were likable.
The sex scenes, though, were too mechanical in my opinion. It was more like reading a manual than an erotica romance, there wasn't much passion behind the actions.

The characters. I liked reading about Lariah, she was a nice enough female character. Of course there were a few choices I did not agree with, but that is more a question of opinion.
The Brothers felt more like one person, than three different ones. Maybe that was the author's intent, seeing as how they all share one soul between them, I don't know, but it did not much like it. I wanted each of them to have their own personalities.
I liked how caring the brothers were toward Lariah, though I think they should have been more open with her, taking her opinion in consideration.

There were a few positive and negative things about the story, but overall I enjoyed it quite a lot.

There is good things in this book, and some problems. Maybe because this was one of the first books the author published.
Good things: the reason why the Jasani have no females, it was original. The Jasani are an interesting alien race. The erotic scenes were good, The brothers are very attentive to her.
Problems: They are also passive about what's happening. They are not pro-active, it's the secondary characters who do all the work. We do not know what they do with their days, we do not know much about their personality. Same thing for Lariah, we know almost nothing about her except that she was tortured. There are many moments that are repeated, sometimes several times, like Tiny that the brothers bring into the room, who watches if Lariah sleeps, then falls asleep at the foot of the bed. Or the fact that the brothers deepen Lariah's sleep before going to talk in another room.

So a lot of potential, enough so that maybe I will continue to read the series.

A promising start. It's totally a Mary Sue wish fulfillment fantasy, which I'm finding that I really enjoy sometimes. Lariah is a decent heroine, not generally prone to too many ridiculous outbursts. I didn't like her love interests all that much. Garen was the only one with a bare semblance of personality. The others might as well have been called his backup dancers for all the independent thought and action they had. I don't really like that. If you're going to give me a reverse harem, give me some noticeable differences between the guys.

I really want to find out more about this world, and I'm curious to see if she's improved as a writer since that first book.

Oh, and I can't finish this without talking about my one major pet peeve. The author has some pretty specific ideas about gender roles and what is acceptably feminine. Her future Earth seems to be a conservative man's nightmare of what feminism would look like. In some ways, that amused me, but given that I am a feminist myself, I was kind of insulted, and I would have liked to have met other women, most especially Lariah's sister, Ellicia, who serves as a bit of a plot mcguffin for most of the books but who seemed far more interesting in a lot of ways.

I couldn't finish this book. I got about 63% into the book and I just couldn't force myself to go any further. Yes, the world building is interesting, and the characters are interesting, but they are missing that spark of life that is so integral to the H\h of a story ( in this case the H H H\h of the story). They are almost mechanical at times, and the dialog between them that is supposed to be sexy just always falls flat for me. Also, I found myself skipping a lot because there is a lot of "filler" in this book. So, between the one dimensional characters and the boring filler, I had to just throw in the towel. This type of writing is just not for me.

If you enjoy sf world building and romance, this novel may be for you!

Ms. Phillips is a new author to me. However, it’s always nice to encounter a new author who quickly becomes a favorite author. Her attention to detail when creating these “space histories” is phenomenal. Although sometimes the telling of these histories can drag a little and be a little repetitious, stick with Ms Phillips because the buildup is worth the drama that unfolds. Romance? Check. Reverse harem? Check. Unknown galaxies? Check. Insidious villains? Check. Leaving the reader wanting more? Check. Enjoyment? Check and double check!

Honestly after reading the Luna series, this is a serious let down. The guys didn’t seem to respect her at all and made several decisions about Lariah and without her. Especially the fact that they did not inform her about the whole plan with Loggia, that is just unforgivable in my opinion. No matter their “reasons”. I have no idea what language is being spoken, as it wasn’t addressed, at least in the first 75% of the book. Also there were a few details here and there that would have really added to the story but weren’t addressed. I don’t think I’m going to continue this series.

This one actually surprised me. I was iffy on it since I'm just slowly getting into reading menage, though mainly m/f/m so reading a m/f/m/m was a huge step for me. I was expecting just a lot of smutty smut and very little plot, but I was happy to find out that I was wrong. There was still very hot smut time, but I also really enjoyed the plot and I'll definitely be continuing the series though I wish we could stay with the same main characters.

There is a ton of exposition and info dumping in the beginning which makes the story really hard to get into. After reading a third of the book (33% according to my kindle), I know so much about the race, the planet's history, and the female lead's hair color... but I really don't care because all this information is given before any meaningful relationship between the female lead and her men starts to develop.

Lariah seemed refreshing with her open mind, but her trio of lovers were kind of bland. I could not finish because of the clumsy world building and meh cast.

All the right elements for a great shifter story but unfortunately, it was poorly executed. There are multiple shifters, a prophesy and a virgin librarian h, who is human, lots of bad guys, but ultimately there was too much going on. It got confusing, then it just got silly, which is a shame because it started so well. The Hs had no depth but the h did, she was great and if only we a little less, the story would have been more.
