Tara Rustle has just spent her twenty-third birthday alone, just like the her last six birthdays. She arrives home from work to find her home burning to the ground. This event is the crux of Tara's grief for the mother she lost six years previously and the loneliness she has endured, and she snaps.
Tara wakes up in the arms of two sexy, masculine men in the town of Slick Rock Colorado, Clay and Johnny Morten, with no memory. She feels comfortable with the two men, so when they offer her a job cooking for them on their ranch, she accepts their offer. Little does she know the two men were once her childhood neighbors.
Tara's memory returns. Clay and Johnny set about seducing the one woman they have lusted after for years. Everything seems to be progressing nicely, until an old flame of Johnny and Clay's turns up. Celia is insane and threatens Tara's life.
Will Clay and Johnny get to Tara in time to save her from a crazy ex-lover? Or will Celia win and end Tara's life?
My name is Becca Van. I live in Australia with my wonderful hubby of many years, as well as my children, a pigeon pair (a girl and a boy). I have always wanted to write and last year decided to take the plunge.
I didn’t want to stay in the mainstream of a boring nine-to-five job, so I quit to fulfill my passion for writing. I decided to utilize my time with something I knew I would enjoy and had always wanted to do. I submitted my first manuscript to Siren-BookStrand a couple of months ago; and much to my excited delight, I got a reply saying they would love to publish my story. I literally jump out of bed with excitement each day and can’t wait for my laptop to power up so I can get to work.
Devastating experience of catching the man/men the heroine loves screwing another woman: check

Heroine is melodramatic: check
Tara grew up in Slick Rock, Colorado, with her parents. At least until the day her father walked out on them, and her mother moved them to Denver. She's devastated that she'll have to leave her two best friends, Clay and Johnny Morten. She had practically grown up with the brothers, but they were older and treated her like a kid sister. When she goes to tell them goodbye, she catches them in the barn with a woman, and they weren't making haystacks. Brokenhearted, she leaves with her mother. Two years later, Tara is all alone in the big city, after her mother is killed in a car accident. Now she has to find a job to keep a roof over her head and put food on the table. That didn't work out so well for her. One day on her way home, she sees her apartment building swallowed by flames. Numb and in shock, she comes to on a bus, in a town that looks strangely familiar, but she doesn't recognize it. She doesn't get far before she passes out in the middle of the road, barely getting hit by a truck.
The men in the truck come to her rescue and are stunned when they realize it's the woman they've been haunted by for the past eight years, ever since she moved away without so much as a goodbye. When she regains consciousness, she doesn't remember her name much less remember her saviors. Now that they have her back, they vow never again to let her go.
This story was just …. odd. The writing wasn't very good. By that I mean that at times it came across as immature, or perhaps inexperienced is a better term? Packing a story full of erotic sex does not a romance story make. If the heroes had done the dirty talking that would have been one thing, but most of the descriptions came across a little crude and reminiscent of a porn script. I don't know how else to describe it. It wasn't terrible by any means, it just didn't appeal to me. It didn't raise my pulse or heartbeat, and I didn't feel a connection or feel vested in the characters, at all.
There were a few instances that left me very confused, and asking the question, What the deuce?:
I bought it despite some reviews about the writing. I mean, it's smut. I don't expect award winning dialog. ;) It was bad. Really bad. Just not good at all. I couldn't get past the, "nobody would ever say that like that," until all of the story lines (many of which I didn't even realize were being developed) resolved in a paragraph or two. With really bad dialog, too. I didn't read the final sex scene. I skimmed it. I never skim. It was that bad.
2.5 stars Very predictable story. Lots of sex but little storyline. The heroine kinda got on my nerves but overall this was a quick menage story with lots of nasty, raunchy sex and sometimes that's all you want in a story ; )
I really enjoyed the story. Felt really sorry for Tara bad life. The sex was ok. I found a lot of it repeat itself through book but other than that I enjoyed it.
I could barely stay awake with this story. The story would have been better if written like her later books but this was disappointing. The sex scenes were hot but the heroine was not. Sorry but chicks that act like spoiled and immature drama queens are not fun to read about. Yes she went through a lot but the attitude was a total turn off for the majority of the story. I've known less mature girls who went they worst that didn't have the drama or attitude this chick did. Highly disappointed I paid to this.
Clay and Johnny fell in love with their neighbor about eight years ago but could do nothing about it because she was a minor. Then one day she was gone, no good bye no nothing. Then just as they were ready to give up on seeing her again and move on they almost hit her in their truck.
Tara’s brain had enough and just snapped when her apartment building went up in smoke and she found herself in her old hometown wishing she could leave there was just too much pain.
I think my favorite part of Slick Rock Cowboys is the bedroom scenes; they make it worth reading this book. Johnny and Clay claim they were pining for Tara yet they never made the attempt to find her? That would have made the story line a bit more viable when they claimed to have always loved her. Because I can certainly understand Tara’s point of view as to why she never tried to contact them. Then there is Clay’s anger at her leaving, really? She was fifteen she had no say in whether she stayed or went and both men knew that she could turn up at their place any time so should have kept those dalliances away from home then maybe they would have know she was leaving. Becca Van could have done a better job of making this one a more plausible storyline because even though I mostly like the characters the story line if a bit flawed.
I would give it no stars at all. Story line was weak. I get she could get amnesia from trauma, or maybe even shock but what I don't get is,Why would anyone else not notice? And also, Why would she easily forgive them? That explanation that they couldn't hold their need for carnal pleasure was weak. Granted men in general are weak creatures. But it was still weak. The story had alot of sex but no true connection. It wasn't tangible. Needless to say I won't be reading it again.
Wowza!! This is a hot and steamy read!! I love a sexy menage!! And the story is interesting. A problem I have found with this series is once they start having sexy the story falls away a bit.
I am hooked on the series so I will keep reading I just hope the writing improves. I would like the intrigue to be more than an after thought in the end.
its was cheesy..but if you like m/m/f relationships you may like this book. I found the sex scenes repeatitive, almost like the author couldn't come up with a new scenario. In the event the main character, Tara, was supposed to be terrorized by an ex g/f Cecila...but it was a lame attempt by the author...it had no real plot or even terror, no heroism...it was lame
This book was just weird. I apparently read it before and remember it when I came back to try this series again. I don’t feel this story flows. It’s not a long story but I had to make myself finish so I can continue to the next book. I don’t feel love at all between any of the characters. The heroine seems so immature with all her yelling and wailing. I really hope the next one is better.
I didn't review this at the time but I have to admit to loving Becca Van novels. She has an amazing talent that shows in her writing, her characters are all different and unique and her storyline and plot usually always leave you in suspense. Plus hello... it's kinky!
Hmm. Men a little bossy, yes. Okay. I cried over Tarah's heart break. The story was good. I felt like the intimate scenes were repetitive and kind of thrown in. Lot of repetition. Did not see the Cecilia thing coming like it did. So that was a surprise. Will give book 2 a try.
