Meg Cabot was born on February 1, 1967, during the Chinese astrological year of the Fire Horse, a notoriously unlucky sign. Fortunately she grew up in Bloomington, Indiana, where few people were aware of the stigma of being a fire horse -- at least until Meg became a teenager, when she flunked freshman Algebra twice, then decided to cut her own bangs. After six years as an undergrad at Indiana University, Meg moved to New York City (in the middle of a sanitation worker strike) to pursue a career as an illustrator, at which she failed miserably, forcing her to turn to her favorite hobby--writing novels--for emotional succor. She worked various jobs to pay the rent, including a decade-long stint as the assistant manager of a 700 bed freshmen dormitory at NYU, a position she still occasionally misses.
She is now the author of nearly fifty books for both adults and teens, selling fifteen million copies worldwide, many of which have been #1 New York Times bestsellers, most notably The Princess Diaries series, which is currently being published in over 38 countries, and was made into two hit movies by Disney. In addition, Meg wrote the Mediator and 1-800-Where-R-You? series (on which the television series, Missing, was based), two All-American Girl books, Teen Idol, Avalon High, How to Be Popular, Pants on Fire, Jinx, a series of novels written entirely in email format (Boy Next Door, Boy Meets Girl, and Every Boy's Got One), a mystery series (Size 12 Is Not Fat/ Size 14 Is Not Fat Either/Big Boned), and a chick-lit series called Queen of Babble.
Meg is now writing a new children's series called Allie Finkle's Rules for Girls. Her new paranormal series, Abandon, debuts in Summer of 2011.
Meg currently divides her time between Key West, Indiana, and New York City with a primary cat (one-eyed Henrietta), various back-up cats, and her husband, who doesn't know he married a fire horse. Please don't tell him.
This one was a slight struggle to finish! The protagonist seemed to completely change from the way she was in the first book, maybe that’s a good thing? But she seemed much more weepy, a little needy. And she continues to complain about the lack of guys interested in her and dates...and since she moved to that little town there’s now been...4? Guys she’s dated, it’s like the author forgot about the previous book all together! Her dad also didn’t make an appearance this time, I wonder why 🤔 Jesse remains quite lovely and is the saving grace of this saga, I don’t know at this point, I’m just reading them because I bought them and it’s a damn good reason to procrastinate and not study 🙈
STOP THINKING SOO MUCH! The main character just goes on and on and on... If she stopped, this book could be so much better, But she doesn't. And it's beginning to annoy me.
This book series is aimed at a young teen market and I’m far from that market!
Still, this is a really enjoyable and easy read. The main character Suze is really engaging, and the writing style is engaging. Will I remember the story in a weeks time? Probably not, but sometimes you want a piece of fluff to just switch off too and enjoy 😉. Job done ✅
The Mediator books by Meg Cabot are some of my favourites from my teens. The series follows Susannah Simon a 16 year old girl with the ability to see and speak to the dead.
Suze has settled into her new life in California, where she moved after her mum remarried, and her best friend from New York, Gina, is staying with her for the week. Gina's one of the few people who knows about her being a mediator, another person being Father Dominic, priest, Suze's headteacher and fellow mediator.
The story starts with Suze and Gina chillaxing on the beach... until they realise they've run out of diet coke. They go to Jimmy's and it's while they're there that Suze sees a group of teenagers in prom outfits stealing a 12 pack of beer. Yep, you've guessed it... they're ghosts, cue Suze going all Nancy Drew on us as she tries to send the dead people (known locally as the RLS Angels) into the next realm by discovering what happened to them.
It's a solid read and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I can't wait to start book 4.
Young Blood
4 stars
In this installment of the mediator series, Suze has been forced to get a job by her step father Andy. So she's ended up working as a babysitter at the Pebble Beach Hotel and Golf Resort. Whilst there she meets 8 year old Jack Slater, the world's most annoying child- until Suze discovers his secret that is.
This story also has another plot running alongside it. A story that delves into Jesse's life and and death amd it's one of the best YA Paranormal Romance plot developments I've read all year. It leaves you excited, it leaves you wanting more. The last two sentences of this book are enough to make you want to grab the final two books, a huge mountain of food and go hide in a corner to read them.
I have to say Jesse and Suze's relationship is one of my favourites because it doesn't detract from the main story like so many books do. It's just an added bonus, another reason to buy the books and read them.
Overall this is my favourite book of the series, it's amazing. The only reason I didn't give it 4.5 is that some of the developments could have been explored more. I reccommend taking the book to the beach and reading it there, it's definitely a beach book, it's just the wrong time of the year.
ok, these books are seriously good! I loved both stories in the second bind-up! While Suze might be partly annoying with her 'boys-issue', she is also a very funny character. and I've been looking for books like these for quite some time now, so I'm happy that I found them!
The first story is a straight 5/5 story to me, I absolutely loved it. Gina has been mentioned throughout the first two books and now she's visiting Suze, which was very insteresting! Michael was a very interesting character. Everything with him and the RSL Angels would be perfect movie material. And the finale was the bomb!
'Young Blood' had some seriously interesting plot twists! In this story, we get to know a little bit more about Jesse, whom we already encounter in the first three books, and it is obvious that Suze is falling for him. While I was seriously pissed of Maria De Silva, I really liked the new characters that were introduced.
Yes, the books are a bit exaggerated, but that's what makes them so funny and enjoyable. I love characters like Suze and seriously wish there were more like her in books!
Yes I know it's 3-4th book in series. But hubby got it for me without reading there were two before and I will try to get into it. Same happened to me with Harry Potter, I read the second one first, and I was as hooked as if I had read the first one first. And now I just want to read THE REST OF THE SERIES! I want to know what happens next after the big cliffhanger, and what happened before, how did Suze meet the characters she now knows so well. Anyway... it grabbed me, even with the whole punching the ghosts was a bit weird.
I reread this series to finish it off as I hadn't read the new additions that came out in 2016. It was my favourite series as a teenager. Sadly, as an adult, I find myself completely unimpressed with the world Cabot created.
I still found it interesting enough to revisit the plot for the ghostly adventures. But I found that Suze as a character only worsened for me in books 3 and 4 after barely enjoying her in the first 2. If anything, I struggled to continue, as there was no real evidence for Suze's love for Jesse. It bothered me how so many parts to this world were either left unanswered - or answered in a simple way that left questions remaining - or were told and assumed that information would be enough.
I still love Jesse and Father Dominic, but I couldn't see what the huge appeal was to this world now as an adult. Thus, I give it a 3 star review because I managed to complete the two books in this novel and to probably honour my teenage self who loved this world.
I love these mediators and a certain ghost. Another fabulous edition to this series.
I wish I was able to read it in one-sitting but I am also grateful I took my time and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Full of ghosts, murder, vengeful spirits, mediators, attraction and revenge.
Perfect for readers of paranormal romances.
Book 4
A spirited read!
What - or who - is buried in her backyard?
In this book, we meet an interesting character and vengeful ghosts hellbent on revenge...which affects our hero in this series. This is the reason why this book was so heartbreaking to read.
A must read book!
Full of ghosts, murder, vengeful spirits, mediators, attraction and revenge.
I think that this book is a bit deep, but some people could definitely enjoy it. It's a little bit scary, because it talks about mediators (people who can see ghosts) So it mat seem scary to some people. To me it didn't seem that scary though, because when I read a book it doesn't come out as scary like a movie. It does include some romance though I didn't really enjoy those parts of the book because it seemed a bit cliché.
I have to thank my aunt for having this in her shelves so I could steal it and add it to my collection. She really has great taste.
it makes me a little sad that Suze and Jesse won't be a real couple. Mainly because Jesse is dead. But that adds to the thrill, i guess. I spend every day of thinking of Jesse, thank you very much.
I lost this book for quite a long time so when I found, I giggled for a straight minute and had my father stare at me as if I were mad.
The protagonist can see ghosts and has become a mediator.they chose to help them but made enemies on the way.She also has a crush on a ghost but then he disappeared and she wanted to get him back.this book has a very mixed plot and is harder to get through

Das war wieder sehr knuffig. Die zweite Geschichte gefiel mir noch etwas mehr als die erste weil wir mehr über Jesse erfahren. Bin gespannt wie es weitergeht. Der Schreibstil war wieder locker und lustig.
What a fantastic 2 novels in 1. I read these books in 2 days. Spirits after revenge who need help getting their revenge for their deaths and spirits who are trying to keep their evil deeds secret.
I definitely feel if I read it when I first bought it as a teenager, and not leave it to collect dust to only read now, I would have enjoyed it to the potential it deserved.
A wonderful set of two supernatural tales which is my opinion are great either as a two volume read or even if you had the single volume version as a stand alone due to the fact only slight, passing reference is made to the preceding book. Suze is a mediator, her job is to help those who passed on to cross over and help them sort things out on Earth while still in their ghostly form but this is not always such an easy job as it sounds... In Mean spirits she encounters the ghosts of four dead kids who were involved in a car crash where the collision sent them spiralling off the road and onto a stretch of beach where the tide drowned them. They are hell bent on revenge on the boy they believe is to blame but who has a crush on Suze, who doesn't reciprocate his feelings but the situation is made more complicated when Jesse her "live in" ghost in her bedroom at home and her mentor and fellow mediator, partner in crime Father Dominic assigns her to watch over Michael in case the four dead kids try anything. Can Suze unravel the truth about that night? Was it truly an accident and they are blaming Michael for nothing or is the truth more sinister than Suze feared? In the sequel, Young blood Suze meets a young mediator who is scared and not aware of why or how he can see dead people. Suze tries to help but unwittingly by appraising Jack of what he is she accidentally gives a vengeful ghost the means and tools to exorcise her best friend and afterlife crush Jesse, the resident ghost who lives with her in her bedroom. But when the vengeful ghost is wiping out anyone (and this includes Suze too) who knows the truth about how and why Jesse died its up to her, Father D and young to stop the evil Maria and Felix Diego. But is it too late for the exorcised Jesse? Brilliantly written with a lot of humour and wit and wonderful characters this is a must for fans of teen lit or just supernatural stories in general. Personally I enjoyed these two volumes so much I have already bought the rest in the collection! What higher accolade can an author receive? A great and enjoyable read.
The storyline of this book was amazing and flawless. I had to take my breath every 5 minutes! It started fantastically and ended perfectly. I had to admit that every time Meg Cabot described scenes that ghosts appeared, I had to actually WRAP myself up in a blanket!
Basically, Susannah Simon was a mediator who helped leading ghosts to where they were supposed to be. In both of the stories within this book, she needed help from Father Dominic (a priest who was also a mediator) and Jesse (a ghost who was her roommate and who she fell in love with).
The first story, "Mean Spirits" was about the souls of four teenagers . Everybody called them, " RLS Angels", since they were attractive and popular in RLS School. RLS Angels were searching for the person who killed them, which turned out to be a really unexpected person!
" Young Blood", was about Jesse's ex-fiancée, Maria De Silva who came back as a ghost to dubiously dig the yard of her 100 and something year old house. Maria was hiding something or SOMEONE under the ground beneath Suz's house. Suz soon discovered two more mediators unexpectedly. The more secrets revealed, the more Suz discovered about the truth of Jesse’s death.
The two stories were well-written. Every single character was extraordinary. They were well described and characterized. Susannah Simon was an amazing mediator, although she was just 16 years old. She was impatient and easy-to-catch-off-guard, nonetheless. She had helped lots of ghosts, including both decent and immoral ghosts. Well, Jesse... He was sexy, intelligent and FLAWLESS! Nothing less.
I obviously like Johanna Parker so the narrator rating is of course a 5 out of 5. And I think the narration is the best part of this book. In book 1, Love You To Death, Susannah (the main protagonist) made mistakes but she hadn't been out and out stupid. For somebody who'd survived "mediating" and dealing with all kinds of souls including powerful vengeful ones, for years, she sure does not display an ounce of self preservation. Never mind sense. So Jesse tells her to run because these angry ghosts will kill her and she LAUGHS and dares the ghosts to "bring it on". When said ghosts beats the shit out of her, she whines. WTF! At which point not only do I want the ghosts to beat Susannah to a pulp but kill her as well because not only is she just too stupid to live and survived only by sheer dumb luck, but she was just asking for it! Would I recommend this book/series to anybody? No. The world building and story telling quality are not bad but the heroine is just too unbelievably moronic.
Empirical Evaluation: Story telling quality = 3 Character development = 1.5 Story itself = 2.5 Ending = 1.5 World building = 3 Cover art = 2 Pace = N/A (6 hours and 15 mins listening time) Plot = 1.5 Narration = 5
Oh my Gods! When I found out that Jesse was gone I kinda lost it a bit, sorry but I really like that character and I was kinda like not in this book too. So let me explain, I read another book not too long ago(Abandon Trilogy) of Meg Cabot and the same thing happens to the guy in that series of books too. But don't worry they both come back. Te He Thank Hades for that.
I think up till now the 4th book of the Mediator aka Young Blood is the best. And if you are reading this to see whether or not to read the book then let me tell you, read it cause it will have you on the edge of whatever you are sitting on right until the end where you finally say "oh yes about time" ;P But I'm not telling what that thing is so not to be a spoiler. Te He Oh and what I'm talking about happened on the last page of the book, so you really have to read the whole thing to find out. Enjoy
So go on read the book it's really is damn amazing.^^
I liked this book even better than the first two books. Suze has two new big ghosts problems that she solves in this one. If you liked the first two books, you will like this one too. It is more of the same as the first two books, but it is also better. The characters develop some more and we meet some new characters. The only thing that leaves me really frustrated is how slow the relationship between Jesse and Suze develops . I mean it just takes a little bit too long. Normally I like books where the relationship develops slowly, but in this series it just takes too long without much progress. To conclude I liked this book. It is a nice read and continues much in the same way as the first two books. I only got a bit frustrated at the slow pace by which Jesse and Suze relationship develops.
