The world of ghosts and spirits is nothing new to Anora Benson; she’s spent her whole life trying to ignore them, trying to be normal. But when the Pricolici, a group of ancient bounty hunters, are sent after her, Anora realizes she is more than just a medium.
As a witch she has power, power she doesn’t know how to use, power that makes her vulnerable to the demons that desire her gifts. Anora is alone and scared, forced to face the darkness on her own.
Then she meets Ethan, a handsome and mysterious stranger who shows up in her life right along with the magic, and he seems to know quite a bit about her and the Coven she hails from. Will she risk everything by trusting him or risk fighting alone?
Emily Goodwin is the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author of over a dozen of romantic titles. Emily writes the kind of books she likes to read, and is a sucker for a swoon-worthy bad boy and happily ever afters.
She lives in the midwest with her husband and two daughters. When she's not writing, you can find her riding her horses, hiking, reading, or drinking wine with friends.

Unbound by Emily Goodwin was a truly great and heart rending story about a girl named Anora. She always felt different from most people in school while growing up. After the death of her great aunt strange things start happening to her. After breaking up with er boyfriend Mike she meets a very good looking older guy by the name of Ethan. After almost getting killed by a spirt in a host body. They end up finding out family secrets about each other and that brings them closer together. Beware I don't cry but the ending is heart wrenching good thing Emily is working on book 2 to continue this wonderful story. I give this book 5 stars and recommend you look into her other series with the first book being Contagious and on April 1, 2012 Beyond the Sea is being released and let me tell you that you won't be disappointed I was privileged to get to read the ARC.
If I had one word to describe this book it would be REPETITIVE. Anora basically repeats everything at least 3 times that has happened to her. So you read the same damn thing over at least 3 times.
The plot was boring, opaque and nauseating.
When Anora finds a deserted barn in the wood somewhere after going off with her boyfriend Ethan. Of course there are demons after her and ghosts so where else should she go.
Its exactly like the plot of a cheesy horror movie and Anora seems like the stupid girl that dies first and I kind of wished she did. It would make the book a bit more exciting. There was no sort of parental guidance and or authoritative figure throughout the book which was unbelievable. They did what they want and when they wanted. What kind of parents let their kids out all night, smoke pot, sleep with their boyfriends in the same bed? delusional?
I also wanted to add that everyone in this book is superficial especially the main character and her boyfriend. and everyone is so beautiful like they should all be models. *rolls eyes* Throw in an ugly person for once sheesh.
I agree with a previous review, just because this book is aim towards 17 year old's doesn't mean it should be written in like an actual 17 year old wrote it.
This is one great Paranormal Romance. This story is about a young witch who never knew she was a witch till her great aunt dies, that's where alot of things starts to appear and try to kill her. I jumped so many times thinking OMG I would have ran away screaming in fear. Thank God she has a hot demon hunter as her boyfriend (drool) I know I would feel safe with him around as well :D. Seeing ghost is one thing but having demons appear and try to kill you all the time, yeah I would have been hiding under my covers for the rest of my life lol. Wonderful book I so hope your making a part two for this :D
I only docked 1 star because some of the stuff involving this girls parents I found really hard to believe. Maybe they really are that "out there", but seeing as they are a doctor and a college professor, I wouldnt put money on it.
I really enjoyed this book. I am a sucker for a strong female lead, and Anora had that is spades. She is a bad ass witch who isnt afraid to do what is necessary to kick some ass. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Emily Goodwin did an amazing job in writing her first book in "The Guardian Legacies series Unbound". If being a teenage girl in High School isn't hard enough, try being a teenage girl who happens to also be a medium and a witch in High School. Well Emily Goodwin takes us on Anora Benson's journey. This story will definitely tickle your paranormal senses. "Unbound" has everything we would want and expect with a few extras in a kick ass paranormal book. Witches, spells, Ghosts, ferocious wolf-like evil dog monsters and demons galore. Of course the story wouldn't be complete without a gorgeous, swoon worthy, evil hunting boyfriend. Without giving away to much, I could not put this book down. I have read too many books to keep track of but it has been a long time since I have felt so excited, intrigued and captivated by a story. Emily's writing made me visualize Anora's journey from self conscious, fearful medium to full blown powerful witch so vividly, I felt as though I was in the story, watching each event unfold. In my opinion "Unbound" has best seller potential written all over it. Emily Goodwin is brilliant!!!
This is another great book from Emily Goodwin. It's fun, it's exciting, and I can't wait to find out what happens next. I have no doubt that the next book will be up to my high expectations. My only complaint is that the book feels unfinished, which is simply a risk with ebooks, I find. I completely understand that even when published by a large company, with multiple people doing numerous rereads, there is still a likelihood of typos slipping through. With ebooks, there tend to be more errors, and I've made my peace with that. Editing, however, is also about keeping the whole story neat and tight, eliminating the scenes that stall momentum. I really hope a publishing house sits up and takes notice of Emily Goodwin, and offers a reprint. With a few finishing touches, this would easily become a five star read. She's fabulous! For fans of this book, I also highly recommend Contagious!
Okay I have to say this was really good book. Super strong solid story that was riveting and captivating. You can’t help but root for Anora and sigh because of Ethan. The story keeping you turning the pages wiling yourself to read faster so you can find out what happen. I loved that the book held all the important pieces that make such a good read. Love, mystery, growth, fear, danger, jealousy, loss, courage. The plot unfolds beautifully. The story unique with its own twist. It isn’t predictable but once or twice I did find myself thinking.. What does this have to with the plot? Was this scene necessary? Then a few pages later.. Ahh okay now that makes sense. I am excited that there are two more books coming out. Kudos to Emily Goodwin for writing such a beautiful, fantastic story. She did a great job describing in detail each scene so that we the readers could almost breath, feel and taste everything written.
Unbound is an excellent beginning to what seems to be a very promising series. Quick witted Anora Benson has never led a normal existence but after the death of her eccentric Great-Aunt Estelle, life as she knows it seems to take a turn from strange to extremely paranormal. She soon starts to realize that her Aunts eccentric ways may not have been just the senile ramblings of an elderly woman but actual knowledge and truth. When the mysterious Ethan Bailey walks into her life Anora learns that not only is she the only known remaining heir to the Coven of the Sacred Guardians but also one of the most powerful Witches in existence and the Demons pursuing her will stop at nothing to gain her powers. With Ethan and Hunter by her side, Anora sets out to destroy the Demons before they can get their claws on her and the ones she loves. Great read, can’t wait to see what Author Emily Goodwin has in store for us in the next book.
5 stars hands down! This book and the way it was written is absolutely amazing! I have to say, at first there were a few words I had to look up in the dictionary, but other than like, 3-4 words, and it was riveting! The way the story had its ups and downs, the rhythm of it was music and an absolute masterpiece. I had goose bumps as the story came to its climax. Would I recommend this? ABSOLUTELY! This book had me more involved than Twilight in the character, and more enthralled than Marked (A House of Night Book). I’m telling you, this book and its writer are going to go places and I am glad to report that you should read it. You don’t need a synapsis of the story. And I won’t tell you anything about it. You just need to READ IT!
I loved this book. I love everything that Emily does really. She has a great story telling voice. I am so obsessed with this book and Reaper that I made a pinterest board for it. Yep, I'm a book nerd.
This book was part of Magic and Mayhem: A Collection of 21 Fantasy Novels. This was not sold as a YA collection and the other book I've read so far was not YA. That being said, I am more than happy to enjoy a good YA novel but this felt not only like it was written strictly for teenagers but by a teenager.
The main character, Anora, discovers she's a witch and has demons after her. That kind of a setup is hard to pull off convincingly when the character is still in high school. All of the kids have zero supervision and do whatever they want at all hours of the day and night. Anora's parents might as well have been cardboard cutouts propped up against a wall. A more lenient and out of touch neurosurgeon and college professor could not exist. None of the main characters have any depth to them and the teenage love story was completely sappy and uninteresting. I just searched the book and found there were 23 instances of "I love you." "I love you, too." Enough already.
I know there is a lot of great YA out there but this isn't an example and it didn't belong in this collection.
I liked this book. It was easy to devour but still made it feel like you were getting a lot despite the fast timeline. Nothing dragged, it was either exciting or lovey dovey. The drama was nice, but I seriously love how creepy it got. There was a time or two when I had to put my back to the wall just so I didn't feel so creeped out being alone! I'd recommend this. It got a little YA for me at one point but it was overall good. The ending definitely made me want to read the next book.
Read this as part 2 of Magic and Mayhem 21 book collection. A young woman inherited more than a house and money from her Great Aunt. Learning of her witch heritage, also opens up the world of Demons, that now seek her power. With a hunk, Ethan, she fights against evil.
Anora has been able to see and hear ghost for as long as she can remember, she doesn't tell anyone anymore because they don't believe her.
*I knew he was coming. I could feel it. But my heart still skipped a beat in fear when the blonde haired ghost appeared just feet in front of me. “I can’t keep you hidden for much longer,” he whispered. He looked at me, his eyes so fearful, he could have been staring death in the face. “She’s not who she says she is.”
She can't make sense of the little blonde boy who shows himself to her and whispers things that she doesn't understand. She wonders what happened to him and why he keeps coming to her.
Things start to get really weird after her Aunt dies and leaves her house and all its belongings to her. She never really knew her Aunt, she would just send her weird things on her birthday. When she finds a Book of Shadows that says "Coven of the Sacred Guardians" among her things, she knows there is more to her Aunt's life that what she thought, and more to her life than just seeing ghosts.
After leaving her douche boyfriend at a party, she meets a stranger named Ethan while walking home in the rain. He offers her a ride, not wanting to get soaked, she accepts. She likes him and soon starts spending time with him. There is something off with Ethan that she just can't seem to place, and he disappears days at a time with no explanation. She wonders what is up with this handsome man that she is falling for. And he seems to be falling for her too, he is protective and genuinely interested in the things she is, and he loves to spend time with her.
She soon learns that Ethan knows all about the paranormal, and a thing or two about her.
*Ethan shifted so he was facing me. “I belong to a very old group, The Order of the Mystic Realm. Very simply put, we are demon hunters.”
*Ethan nodded, as if that made sense to him. He looked at my chest. I realized he was looking at the pendant, not my boobs. “Coven of the Sacred Guardians,” he exclaimed. “I knew that Triple Goddess symbol was familiar!” His expression changed once more. “You’re a witch, aren’t you?”
Well, that explains that. Anora comes from a very powerful coven and she is the last of her kin, which makes her very powerful. So powerful that someone is out to steal all that power away from her by sending Pricolici, a group of ancient bounty hunters, to capture her.
*I rushed forward, flicking my wrist and sending the dagger into the Pricolici’s neck. I didn’t close my eyes or look away. I watched the blade turn red hot, the magical fire instantly spreading into the demon. It burst into flames. A smiled pulled up my lips. This was what I was meant to do.
With all this new found knowledge and the things her Aunt has left her, Anora now has a fate that she must step into. She must eliminate the treat to those she loves and kill the demons after her. And she must face the master of the Pricolici, a far greater evil than she has encountered so far.
This was a great book, can't wait for the next in the series! Emily beauitfully blends paranormal and romance in this tale that will leave you breathless. Ethan is so sweet and swoonworthy! I would recomment this book to anyone wanting to dive into a paranormal romance!
*“Are you leaving me?” I asked as he sunk down next to me. “I’ll never leave you, Anora.” “I don’t want you to get in trouble for breaking Order rules.” His lips brushed against mine. “Some people are worth breaking all the rules for.”
I was torn on the rating for this one. On the one hand, it had beautiful cover art and an amazing story concept. I even found it hard to put down for about the first quarter of the book. But then, as much as I wanted to credit the positive qualities of the story, a few negative aspects began to weigh me down.
From the start, I was frustrated that I couldn't get a good feel for what this book wanted to be, and honestly, I began to suspect that the author wasn’t quite sure either. At times, the innocence of characters and blatantly sophomoric dialogue (like when Ethan asks Anora, “Do you want to be my girlfriend?”) spoke for this book as an innocent YA Paranormal love story. However, the open discussion of sex, drugs, and alcohol, and the fact that, by the end of the story, Ethan and Anora are regularly knocking boots and moving in together were more characteristic of a steamier NA grade romance. Whichever it was intended to be, the romantic scenes tended to be awkward and definitely lacking in steam. For example, Ethan meets Anora at school and pulls her in for a kiss, "his tongue going in my mouth". She may as well be describing a dental exam for all the excitement the scene raises. Despite the fact that Ethan could very easily be a blood-stirring character, I never really felt the passion between him and Anora.
Another issue that held me back from enjoying the story more and, ultimately, from rating it more highly, was that it felt very story driven. It was hard to get a good, deep connection to the characters, and there were lots of situations and conversations that felt as if they existed solely to move the story along toward a pre-destined point to which the author needed to get. Anora is still in high school and living with her parents, yet parents never seem to be an issue, except when they throw in a token objection that never really has any impact on the story. Need to sneak out late with Ethan? Agreeance spell. Need to visit the house in Indiana? Agreeance spell. The Agreeance spell was just too convenient. And there were several times I found myself thinking, “There’s no way someone would REALLY do that!” Like the time Anora’s dog, Hunter, is freaking out by the back door and Anora thinks there might be demons. What’s a girl to do?! Apparently, go upstairs to get dressed and blow dry her hair…
All of this being said, I thought the story concept was intriguing, the characters had great possibility, and oh my goodness can Emily Goodwin create a visual with her words! I never had any trouble getting a vivid picture of the world of Unbound, and I was truly impressed by the powerful imagery. For example, when Anora and Ethan go to Green Lake:
“The sun was sinking behind us, and the orange, red and yellow colors from the sky reflected beautifully off the glass-like surface of the water. I rested my head against Ethan’s broad shoulder. I never wanted this day to end.”
I could feel the warmth of Ethan’s arms and Anora’s contentment in that moment, with the gorgeous colors of sunset and the peaceful lake before them. And descriptions like this were throughout the book, strengthening the prose and drawing me into the story.
Overall, this was a fairly enjoyable read, but I think it has much unfulfilled potential.
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.*
Anora has spent her life feeling different and alone due to the fact she can see ghosts. When she finally has a boyfriend, she is devastated to overhear at a party that he just had a bet going to sleep with her. After storming out of the party, Anora runs into the attractive and mysterious Ethan, who she is instantly drawn to. To complicate matters more, Anora's quirky great aunt passes away and leaves all of her possessions to Anora, including her surprisingly large collection of spell books and vast array of odd weapons. Anora has no idea what is gong on, but she knows that there is danger near and it is hunting her.
I was not sure what kind of story this was when I picked it up to read. To be honest, I chose it because the cover is pretty and caught my eye and I have heard good things about Emily Goodwin. I was interested how the book would play out. I thought this was going to be a teen paranormal story, but I think I would classify this as a Paranormal New Adult book instead based on the content and actions of the characters. There was a whole lot of love and lust, but there was also a huge focus on Anora and what she could do. I liked the ghost elements of the story as well as the witchcraft and spells performed.
I was a little disappointed in Anora at the start of the book. She is dating a guy she so obviously doesn't like who is so incredibly rude to her and she lets him grope her and goes through the motions just to fit in. It made me feel a little icky for her and I wanted her to punch him or at least dump him. She does end up growing some back bone which totally cheered me up, but then she went the extreme route and had too much confidence in herself that she found herself in dangerous situations she was unprepared for. I absolutely love her hodge podge assortment of animals and the role they play in her life as well as the ability to read her emotions. Also, Anora could not have dreamed for a better best friend than what she was given (Laney was awesome). Totally random, but I like the name Anora and I thought it fit who she was but I hated that she liked for people to call her Annie (not that there is anything wrong with Annie, but if you are named Anora, you should totally rock it). Side note, I am fine with responsible teenagers having sex in the story, which occurred a lot in this book (but really she was 18 and he is 22, so whatever) but they had sex with everyone around at both of their parent's houses and I found that to be super awkward. Maybe wait till you are by yourself? There were a few times Anora became embarrassed that other overheard the sex, and my solution is to not have sex with everyone around! Sheesh.
Overall though I found the book to be interesting and I kind of liked how the ending played out. Things almost wrapped up as if this was a stand-alone, but I am pretty sure this is the first in a new series and I can't wait to see what will happen next.
I received this title form the publisher in exchange for my honest review. For more reviews visit my blog at http://smadasbooksmack.blogspot.com/
There was always sadness in his eyes, as if he was desperately waiting for something that would never come. He wasn’t threatening, like some of the other spirits I’d seen, and I’d seen a lot. I’d been a medium for as long as I could remember, being able to see and hear ghosts.
Anora has a secret, one that she's not sure anyone will believe...
She can see things that no one else can, and ever since someone in her life died, its gotten worse
I turned slowly, expecting to see a man with a hook arm or a shaggy gray beard or something creepy, but what I saw shocked me even more. A very attractive man, who I guessed to be in his early twenties, looked at me. His eyebrows were pushed together, and his brown eyes showed concern. A five o’clock shadow covered his defined cheekbones, and his full lips were pulled into a frown. He was tall and muscular, dressed in a dark blue t-shirt, jeans, and a black motorcycle jacket. “Are you okay?” he asked.
Ethan has a secret, one that has kept him isolated from others...
Anora may be the only one he can truly open up to
But some secrets can be deadly and put the ones you love in danger...
What will Anora do in order to protect those around her?
I gave this book a 3.5 out of 5 stars. My favorite character was Anora, the main character in that she was strong and didn't compromise her beliefs. When her whole world was turned on its head and she was being hunted she took it upon herself to learn how to protect herself. She didn't mind her guy (Ethan) protecting her but she was also going to protect him and those around her as well. I have to say that I was very skeptical of how she and Ethan met and was suspicious of him for most of the book, he really had to earn my trust (sadly she trusted him almost right away). Sadly, I don't want to go too much into Ethan as he is a bit of a mystery and I don't want to ruin anything (I will tell you he is older, hot, and a badass). One thing that disappointed me about this book was its lack of twists, something would happen and I was like, I saw that coming a mile away. But it was really enjoyable in that I was really cautious reading because I kept thinking that there was going to be some big twist (it was a twist that there was no twist?). Anyway this was a pretty smooth read in that I finished it pretty fast and I really hope that there is a sequel in that while it could end where it did, I'm a bit dissatisfied (I need more!). I just feel that the characters have so much left in them to give and they have such potential in what they can still do. As I said there is an ending, so it can be read as a standalone, but I for one would love to see more from the author about these characters.
I went into this book knowing that I would be writing a review for it. This said, at the beginning of reading the story I read while analyzing but as the story unfolded I lost myself within it. I eventually went back over the book again and read with a mind for critique. These are my thoughts.
The characters and the world that they belong to are incredibly believable. The characters and their lives (outside of the supernatural) are extremely relatable. I felt as if I could have been Anora. She was a girl that had to deal with the popular people always being fake towards her when she was *hot*, and on her case when she was *not*. She had the great friend and the one that she knew used her for convenience. She had the twin brother who was somehow everything she wasn't. She was a typical teenage girl. As her world becomes even more confusing than it has always been, Anora begins to grow into a character with more confidence and knowledge of her own existence, which has always been missing.
The paranormal aspect of the book took a little while. We knew something was up with Anora but even she was not sure what that was. She meets up with Ethan who just so happens to have a little bit of mystery about him as well. He is the protective, attractive, older guy that you just cannot help to fall for. The paranormal story that unfolds is fresh. Paranormal romance books tend to run within the same lines. Girl meets boy. Boy is mysterious. Girl falls for boy and vice versa. This story is similar but has way more to it. I believe that Anora's social life is what brings the story along just as much as the paranormal. I probably would have kept reading the story even if the paranormal had never come into play, and I rarely ever read anything that is not paranormal for lack of interest. The paranormal just makes the story even better. I won't go into much detail because I don't want too many spoilers.
Editing--- Yes, this story needs some editing work. This is the only thing keeping the book from a 5 star for me. A couple of word changes and quite a few grammatical, punctuation problems made it impossible for me to over look the lack of proofreading.
I will definitely begin to read the second book in this series as soon as possible. I cannot wait to see where Anora's life takes her next. Read the book for yourself. It is absolutely worth the money and your time.
Unbound is another great work by Emily Goodwin. I was hooked on this one from the first page to the last page. I love how Emily draws you into the story and keeps your attention throughout the whole book!
Anora is a young lady that is in her Senior year of High School and is working really hard to finish her schooling a semester early. When Anora is pulled out of class one day by her great Aunt's lawyer, she is shocked to learn that her Aunt that always sent her strange presents that had no relevance to her or Anora's twin brother at the time, has passed away. Anora has inherited everything from her Aunt and she can not figure out how she was chosen out of everyone else to get her Aunt's things. Now Anora has money and a home that she has no idea what she is going to do with. Anora starts to notice strange things happening right after her Aunt passes away but dismisses them without much thought.
Anora is at a party with her boyfriend at the time one night and overhears him talking to some of her other friends and can not believe her ears. Anora is upset and storms out of the party and walks until she runs into Ethan. When he takes her to a cafe and they get coffee and warm up, Ethan is unlike any other guy she has ever meet. They both agree that they would like to see each other again but they are not sure when or how. Anora ends up running into Ethan again later and things just connect for them after that. Ethan automatically know that Anora is something different and what he has been looking for. The connection between these two pops off the pages at you. I love the way that Emily makes you feel their connection with out them even having much "physical romance" at first. This was a nice change to see!
When Anora and Ethan start to figure out who each other are, they are inseparable. The action and suspense that follows in this story keeps you on the edge of your seat and wondering what is going to happen next. I was reading as fast as I could to find out what was going to happen next!!
I am so glad that this story ended in a HEA for Ethan and Anora. I was wondering and rooting for them the whole time. I would love to know what becomes of them in another book! Thanks Emily for a great read and I can't wait for what you have in store for us!!
Although I have so many books in the paranormal genre on my kindle, it's been a long time since I've actually read one (!) so I was looking forward to getting stuck into this.
At the beginning of Unbound we meet Anora who has always thought she was a little different as she could sense spirits but she's never really told anyone as they wouldn't believe her. She loves her pets and owns two horses, a dog (who is not what he seems), and a ferret; she regularly sees one of these spirits when riding in the woods.
Anora is dating Mike but when she overhears a conversation between him and his friends at a party she realises he's a jerk and ditches him. On her way home she meets a mysterious guy called Ethan and they seem to hit it off straight away... Oh I could have hit it off with Ethan too! ;)
On what should have been a pretty normal day at school, Anora receives a visit from her great aunt Estelle's lawyer. She discovers she has inherited everything her aunt owned - her house, her car, her money (and lots of it). Anora discovers among these belongings all sorts of unusual items, and the discovery is made that she is a witch, and a powerful one at that. Alongside this, Ethan is a demon hunter - the perfect pair! And Emily writes them like they really are, the spark between them is palpable.
This is where Anora's life becomes more complicated than ever and she discovers that now her aunt is dead that she is being hunted by a demon who wants her power. Throughout Unbound we meet some crazy creatures - or should I say demons - that I never come across before and Emily's descriptive writing really brought them to life. The story comes to an end with Anora and Ethan coming face to face with the demon that has been hunting her. Will they be able to stop it or will it be the end of Anora and her new (to her) life? Well you need to read to find out!
All in all I really enjoyed reading Unbound and Emily made me want to keep reading. I look forward to reading the rest of The Guardian Series! 4*
Paranormal. Sigh.. probably my favorite genre to read, when it is written good. Unbound is written perfectly. There is just enough real life in the story to make it realistic, while still having enough paranormal to make it fall into the genre.
I love when a young person comes into them self. That is what happens to Anora. She has always known she was different. She knew she could connect with dead, but she didn’t really know how special she was. I loved that she accepted what was happening to her. She took her responsibilities and did what had to be done. She also did not take what was going on lightly. She knew that she had to do research and find out what was attacking her and how to stop it. It was interesting to see all the goodies that her great aunt left her after her death. These things seemed random at first, especially the items that were mailed to her. Yet in the long run they all worked to keeping her safe. I was curious about her parents. Even without the acceptance spell they seemed to accept a lot. Whether they were just that busy that they had no clue what was going on with their children, they didn’t care, or they were juts flightly it seemed odd that they could be that blind. The injuries, the late nights, the overnight sleepovers, the attacks, and everything seemed a little much to be ignored by parents.
The relationship between Ethan and Anora was great. It was a true teenage relationship, with paranormal demons thrown in. They got each other. They protected each other. They trusted each other. I never had a doubt that this relationship would be a healthy relationship for them both. The two of them had true love and knew that they had to protect that.
This is my first Emily Goodwin book and it will not be my last. I love this series. I want more already.
Unbound is an exciting new series by author Emily Goodwin. One of the things that really caught my attention about this book was the cover. It was eye catching and made me curious. Then, I read the synopsis and thought to myself, I need to check this book out and I’m happy that I did.
Right off the bat, I found myself really like Anora. I thought she was a great female lead. She was a pretty tough and I liked how even though she always knew she was different, she didn’t let it get her down; even when people called her a freak. Then when she starts realizing she has powers, I was entranced. I wanted to know why she suddenly had powers and what was going to happen to her. Ethan was such a wonderful addition to Unbound. He really intrigued me and made me want to read this story. I knew right away that there was more to him than meets the eye. He too was special and was willing to break all the rules for Anora.
My only compliant was the pacing. Pacing is such a critical part of a story for me. And unfortunately, Unbound is really slow in the beginning. It took me a while to really get into the story and connect with the characters. However, once I got passed the first few chapters, I felt like the story-line picked up and finally pulled me in.
Overall, I though Unbound was a pretty good read. It says that it’s YA, but I would say it’s more Mature YA, walking that fine line to NA. I loved the idea of the story and think this series has a lot of potential. Even though I did have some issues with the pacing, I still found this book to be enjoyable. As for the ending, this book doesn’t really end with a cliffhanger, but more of a resolved, yet to be continued ending. I am definitely curious about where the story will go next.
*I was provided an ARC copy of this book, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review*
I was given this book for a review by the author and I promise it will be honest. This book was interlining. The plot was different, most of the characters were relateable and the romance was steamy. The story starts off with Anora Benson who is just like every teenage girl, wants to be popular and have the super hot boyfriend. When we start off the story I found Anora mildly irritating because she was so shallow and just let people walk all over her. Personally I'm very assertive I tell people what I think so when I saw this I was like "Why are you letting them do this?!" The story takes awhile to start and most of the beginning is about Anoras not very nice friends and jerk face boyfriend, Matt. Some of the things in the story just didn't make sense and were confusing. Like once everything is finally laid out Anora goes to find the demon who is hurting her family, which is understandable, but once she kills one she meets up with Ethan and they run away from the rest, this all seems okay until Anora falls and Ethan picks her up, grabs her butt and starts kissing her... I was like WTF?!? One of the good things about this book is Ethan! I loved him most of the time. He was a mysterious guy in the beginning but as the story goes on you get to see the real him and how much he loves Anora. For some reason though I felt like at any minute they were going to break up for some reason or another. They didn't thank god cause I love them together. All in all, this book was pretty good with some character growth, nice supporting characters like Laney and Harry and an awesome romance with a hot guy!
its not easy to impress me when it comes to book (not that its easy in other things) i need a decent grammar decent amount of romance and oh yea if its paranormal it has to really be paranormal not just any witch or vampire or werewolf!!! well let's write the review: Anora Benson is like any other high school senior and its just it! nothing else is norma bout her... she sees ghost, they try to contact with her and she has visions and premonitions of what might be her own death!!!and has a douche boyfriend but soon finds out the perfect guy Ethan and to add spice to the story he is a hunter and not just any hunter but a demon hunter, there are demons trying to kill her and the worst is she is the last of her kin and no one is there to guide her. since the death of her great aunt Estelle her powers have been showing up and soon her best friend and twin brother figure out that she is a witch and help her! not break the suspense at the end for the safety of the people she loves she leaves alone! without her brother Harrison who will always protect no matter even if he is a human and her friend Laney or Ethan her eternal love. it was a perfect mix of horror, drama characters were well defined the only thing that didnt make me give it 5 stars was the high school life getting drunk..JUST KIDDING! ive never given 5 stars to any book hoping there might be the best book/series/novel ever! which i will never ever forget
I became a fan of Emily Goodwin after I read her Contagium series. I picked up this book hoping I'd fall in love with these characters as well, and I wasn't disappointed.
You can definitely relate to Anora, high school is hard and all the girls are catty. So you can just image how hard it is for her when she has to hide her powers from those around her. It does get a little hard though when ghosts who look like they're alive and there are whispers in her ear. How do you know if you're talking to when you can't tell if their alive or dead?
But after a horrible night at a party, her whole world changes. She runs into the ruggedly handsome Ethan, there's just something about him that pulls her in and makes her so comfortable around him.
Though they both have secrets, never would they have guessed how close the things they kept hidden they would bring them.
Once Anora and Ethan finally open up to each other, that's when things start to get really interesting.
I don't want to give to much away, but I will say that if you've read anything else from Emily, this book is a MUST READ! From page one, you connect with the characters and are left begging for more once the story ends. I can't wait to see what happens next with Anora and Ethan.

How do you go about being a witch when you never knew you were one? That is the question Anora has to answer and fast because she has spirits and bounty hunters after her and she needs to learn how to use her powers – now.
Things supernatural don’t bother Anora, she’s spent most of her life trying to ignore the spirits or ghosts surrounding her. She thought she was a medium, no more than a conduit for those who pass on and want to communicate with the living. Now she’s discovering the powers that make her a witch worth reckoning with, once she knows what to do with those powers.
Ethan is not exactly what he seems. He knows more than he should but at least she’s not alone in fighting off the spirits. Is he here to help her or harm her? Trust is not an easy thing to give when you are a newly discovered witch with unknown powers.
I enjoyed Unbound. It was fast paced and kept me reading, often with a few startled moments. Anora is a strong character, constantly growing and evolving into her powers and new place in life. If you enjoy fantasy and paranormals this is a story you would want to check out.
*I received an e-ARC of Unbound from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. That does not change what I think of this novel.*
