Carla Neggers is the New York Times bestselling author of the Sharpe & Donovan series featuring Boston-based FBI agents Emma Sharpe and Colin Donovan, and the popular Swift River Valley series set in the small, fictional New England town of Knights Bridge. With many bestsellers to her credit, Carla loves to write now as much as she did when she climbed a tree at age eleven with a pad and pen and spun stories perched on her favorite branch.

A native New Englander, Carla and her husband divide their time between their hilltop home in Vermont, a sofa bed at their kids' places in Boston and various inns, hotels and hideaways on their travels, frequently to Ireland.

My first book by CN and boy was it short, lol! A novella from her series Cold Ridge/US Marshals. I enjoyed it and liked the characters. I'm gonna have to get my hands on the others in this series.

Does Dr. Antonia Winter have a stalker, or is she imagining it? She heads to Shelter Island to sort through things and distance herself from her boyfriend's political campaign. Hank Callahan notices Antonia appears anxious, and he cancels some appearances to find and help her. Antonia's stay on Shelter Island is hampered by an incoming hurricane and two unexpected guests. This is an easy read that is suspenseful and entertaining.

This story was okay, but the fact that it is 1.5 is weird. Since book 1 already has H & A married, then you already KNOW nothing serious will happen to them. It takes away all the potential suspense.

Love Wins

Another good book about the Winter family. Two sisters, one uncle, a crazy guy and two best friends keep this story moving along.

Shelter Island was a short but great read but one that left me wanting more.

The thing with novellas are that the great ones are those that you want more from, a much better alternative than a full-length not-so-great read. Even though the story felt "bare" the characters and plot were all there to create the situation and resolve it.

Hank Callahan and Antonia Winter are familiar characters to the US Marshals series but their isn't, so this makes a good prelude to the series or even as a story to revisit characters. The adventure and chemistry, as expected are all there but the development was very minimal. Too simplistic, particularly for Hank and Antonia, two strong characters who I felt deserved an all out story.

The mystery was simple, easy to figure out but nonetheless still interesting. The culprit is given away early on, but then again it wasn't really a mystery but a suspense. Quite comical, there were many parts that were laugh-out-loud ridiculous (in a good way) than thrilling. Although, the story could have done with the profanity nickname given to Antonia, which was expressed more times than necessary, and given this was a short story came as as distracting.
