Liberation Road

Jared Foster's life has been, up to this point, relatively simple. He lives alone, works a simple job and maintains a long-distance relationship. He's content with his life and secure in the regular routine it offers. Then his girlfriend asks him to visit.

Though Jared could easily envision a plague of problems on his first solo road trip, running out of gas in the middle of nowhere wasn't a legitimate concern. Until it becomes a grim reality. Finally spotting an isolated rest stop, Jared pulls in. It's when he can't find anyone, not even someone behind the counter, that he starts to worry. Tentative apprehension turns to raw terror when he becomes trapped and something decidedly inhuman begins to hunt him.

I'm just a writer from the Midwest. I typical like action/horror, usually against a sci-fi backdrop.

Pleasant surprise with this novella by an author completely unknown to me. Fast paced action packed morality tale about a young man who takes a detour on the way from Kansas to Colorado and ends up with something like a supernatural psychotherapy session. Bold premise, capable execution, twist at the end all make for a very enjoyable quick read. Recommended.

Jared was on his way from Missouri to Hartford, a small town at the edge of Colorado to meet—for the first time—Lara, his online girlfriend. That's when Liberation Road happens "to" him.
Nothing I say will prepare you for the story without giving it away. Liberation Road mystified me until the very end. The author made me live what Jared was going through without letting it drag. The story unfolded properly and sequentially as Jared braved several challenges to survive.
The ending carried a deeper meaning than meets the eye, at least to me. Jared is a believable character; his actions, thinking, and feelings felt real.
I can't recommend this book enough. It had me guessing while reading it and then thinking about it after I finished it. Books like Liberation Road stay long with a reader.

Liberation Road is a fast paced horror mystery from author Sean A Lusher. In the story, the lead character Jared Collins finds himself at a deserted gas station on the aforementioned Liberation Road. After a series of impossible events, Jared is forced to face a creature from his worst nightmares, a creature with some link to his past. There are some interesting ideas in this yarn and the plot will keep you guessing as Jared aims to solve each of the dilemmas he faces. All in all an enjoyable short story.
