As much as I wanted to like this book I felt every story had the same cadence. A long drawn out build up of suspense with no real payoff as Lovecraft often used his “it was too dreadful for me to explain” excuse. Perhaps it would be a better read if I read the stories here and there between other books. But reading one after another felt very repetitive even if the stories were vastly different. I loved the colour out of space and the whisperer in darkness. The shadow over innsmouth was decent as well. I’m definitely not turned off from Lovecraft but I am slightly disappointed to say the least.

HP “I’m not like other authors” lovecraft writes stories for people who pick their scabs and eat them. DNF as quickly as possible!!!
