Montana Wildfire

Rate this book
After her father's sudden death, lovely Amanda Lennox had no money for the long trip from Boston to the ranch she inherited in faraway Seattle. When she saw the advertisement for a wilderness expert to escort eleven-year-old Roger Bannister,III to Montana, the adventure-loving woman jumped at the chance, never guessing she'd end up lost in the wilds of Idaho with a twisted ankle. Then an arrogant halfbreed on a palomino stallion came to her rescue and comforted her with is healing touch. Rugged ranch hand Jacob Blackhawk Chandler knew from experience that prissy white princesses meant trouble. He'd seen Amanda Lennox's type before, haughty and citified and utterly unequipped to survive in the wide open country. He couldn't just ride off and leave the lovely minx alone and hurt but he sure wouldn't be taken in by that sweet smile, either!

Hot, sexy, and just like the title says its a wildfire! Almost from the very beginning this book was steaming with sexual tension. Amanda's ankle is trapped by a log in a riverbed and there is nobody to help her but the obnoxious brat Roger that she is escorting through the wilderness. He runs off and finds Jacob the oh so sexy halfbreed and from then on the sexual tension spreads like a Montana Wildfire!

After he gets her foot unstuck they find out that Roger has been kidnapped and Jacob agrees to help find Roger. Along the way, the sexual tension grows and Jacob only means to tease Amanda a little because of her prissy little attitude, but it backfires on him when he can't seem to quench is thirst for his white princess. He learned along time ago that 'breeds' do not get involved with white women and he intends to never go down that road again, but something about Amanda just makes him forget everything.

Jacob has had the pain of discrimination and rejection all of his life from white people and he finds it hard to let go of it, but Amanda doesn't seem to care about the color of his skin. He just doesn't know if he can let himself be free of the pain. Jacob is one very handsome and oh so sexy half breed it was very easy to see how Amanda could fall so easily for his rugged charm, even when she had his temper flaring.

Amanda keeps trying to remember the rules she learned in at the school for girls, but every time Jacob would get close to her it all seem to disappear. Amanda tries to be tough, and lies about being a wilderness expert so she could have a way to travel to Seattle, but it backfires on her when she has to take care of a spoiled brat, then loses him. I think at times she almost forgot about Roger and his kidnapping when she was in the arms of the sexy half breed.

Not that I didn't mind all the sexual tension, etc but my only real problem was that I thought it happened a little to fast. It really was almost from the very start of the book, it was like wow, they don't even know each other and this is already happening. I guess I am more for the gradual tension in my romances, but other than that I thought the book was very good.

If you like your romances rip with sexual tension and sexy half breed Indian's then you should definitely check this book out. It was first published as a paperback in 1991 but has now been made into a ebook and has a new and if I might say, better cover! I love this cover a lot more than the one I seen the 1991 release had.

Montana Wildfire is a little slow to start off, but don't give up or you will be missing out on a great read. Jake and Amanda have serious chemistry right from the get go, but they spend most of the book dancing around each other. You can almost cut the air with the tension these two generate. I loved Amanda's spunk and stubborn streak, although it gets her into a bit of trouble. She's not afraid to stand up for herself and has a tendency to speak before she thinks. Jake is majorly swoon worthy. His character is a force to be reckoned with, but as much as he tries to hide it, you get to see his vulnerability and it adds to his appeal. He is sex on legs and Amanda has a hard time dealing with him. Montana Wildfire is such and apt name for this book as these two set the pages alight! I think my Kindle almost short circuited! The setting is a great backdrop and conjured images of the wild west for me. I'm not a huge fan of historical romances, but if there are more like this then I'll definitely be reading them! So if you are after a steamy, sexy read grab a copy of Montana Wildfire.

She needed his help, but he wanted her surrender.

Upon accepting a job to escort a young boy to his father's house, Amanda Lennox could never have expected quite how life changing that decision would be. She knew it was the opportunity she needed to get back to what's left of her own home, but first she would be tried and tested by her mischievous and devious young charge and then again and again by a gorgeous-to-distraction half-breed. But when the boy she promised to deliver is suddenly kidnapped, Amanda is left with no options, but to hire the man with a chip on his shoulder as a tracker. Amanda will also be forced to prove just what kind of stuff this “prissy white princess” is truly made of.

Not for the first has Jacob Blackhawk Chandler found himself in a situation with a woman, but this time he's vowed not to have it end in the same result. His previous experience has won him a hard earned mistrust and prejudice towards all white people with a special wariness of white women. However, Amanda pushes him past his comfort zone and defies everything he thought she should be as a proper lady. While he tries to deny and fight the hold she has over him, Jacob helps Amanda realize the hidden passion she carries beneath the tight-fit of her corseted exterior. He is certain it would never work between them, but with each day that passes his control slips and it becomes clear the sooner he can get his money and be away from her the better.

From the beginning, I was swept away by the story to a time when the west was still in the process of being won. With engagingly descriptive writing, Ms. Sinclair aims to ensnare readers with a story of forbidden desire between a Boston lady of proper up-bringing and a half-breed Indian who was taught an early age what being racist meant. Patience, tolerance, confidence, and trust, are their biggest challenges and were mine as the reader as well. This isn't a story with easy relationship development nor is it a story with easily loved characters either. What it is however, is a story with realistic depiction of circumstance with believable characters.

Jacob Blackhawk Chandler is incredibly troubled, but boy does he have “swagger”! It’s unfortunate that there is so much spotlight is on the unflattering side of Jake. If he’s not pointing out the obvious and telling Amanda that she’s a white woman and that’s why they can’t get along, then he’s mentally reminding himself. He’s also very rude, crude, and obnoxious. Regardless of his bloodlines, Jake is a very frustrating character and one that I found myself heavily involved in a love/hate relationship with. Amanda on the other hand, is full of gumption and determination with a fearless streak I wasn't expecting. Her weakness is Jacob and no matter what he's done or said she inevitably melts, which frustrated me to no end. She spent more time trying to prove herself to him versus making him work to prove himself to her. However, they both have their redeeming qualities stubbornness being among them and a fatalistic physical attraction that cannot be denied or ignored for long.

Although the point-of-view's between Jacob and Amanda were a bit hard to track and would often switch without warning, their banter is an infuriating tennis match of wits, but with a smoldering desire beneath. Who would’ve thought that Jacob showing Amanda how to make a fire without matches could be such a turn-on. The innuendo is quite clear and Jacob's movements in showing Amanda what he means teaches her that making a fire is akin to making love and can be just as hot. You’ll have to read the story to know what I mean, but here’s a snippet to enjoy…

“…Now balance the stick between your palms. Good. Now this time I want you to make your movements flow. What you need to do is... stimulate the bottom stick until it smolders. That'll take a nice, easy, back and forth stroke. Steady, but not jerky. You want to get that friction I was telling you about started. Back and forth, back and forth. I can't tell you how important rhythm is. Once you've established the pace, you can't let up or you'll have to start from scratch. Understand?"

"Just do exactly what I tell you, and I'll show you how we Indians set a bed on fire."

In there own unique way Amanda and Jake are caught up in their own story of pride and prejudice. What neither of them expected was an added element of lust to cloud judgment and blur the lines of color. Sizzling doesn't even come close to describing their moments together. It's a story worth the read and one I won't soon forget. Ms. Sinclair is a most excellent story-teller and has many others worth exploring. If you're looking for something a bit wilder and untamed in your romance selection, then you should definitely check out this story.

Amanda Lennox had lived in Seattle with her father. After her mother died, he sent her back east to Boston. She taught in a finishing school there but had been fired. One of the things she had done was to teach the girls how to play cards, like poker. Her father had died and left her his ranch but she had no money to get there. She took a job to travel with a 10 yr old, Roger Thornton Bannister III to Montana. He turned out to be a monster. He had hidden their stage tickets so she decided to teach him a lesson and ride with him on horseback to Pony, Montana. What should have been a journey that took hours ended up getting them hopelessly lost. They had been riding around for two weeks.
Amanda's foot stuck was now hopelessly stuck in a log at the bottom of a river. She ordered Roger to find someone to help her out. He surprisingly did as she asked and brought back a half breed, Jacob Blackhawk Chandler to help free her. Her foot had been twisted and was badly sprained. Jacob freed her food and carried her out of the river. Amanda talked him into agreeing to helping them get to where they were headed. She didn't know Jacob and lied to him telling him that Roger was her cousin. It wasn't too much later that they heard Roger scream. He had disappeared. Now they had to find Roger.
Jacob fought his attraction to Amanda because 5 years previous he had been pursued by a white woman, his boss's daughter. It turned out that she was just using him. She bragged about sleeping with him and when her father heard about it he beat Jacob badly with a shovel. That wasn't the worst of it though. He wasn't killed and returned to where he was staying to find her there. Rather than being sympathetic to him, she tried to kill him. He had scars on the back of his neck to remind him to stay away from white women.
Amanda surprised Jacob occasionally and this fueled his attraction to her. He discovered that she could play poker quite well. He found himself having to cheat at poker in order to win the game. His intention in playing strip poker was to get her to take off her corset because it was causing them to have to stop often so she could catch her breath. He ended up kissing her and found that she was just as attracted to him. He realized that she was innocent of knowing that she was doing. The trembling of her body when he got too close to her gave her away.
For the next few days Jacob found himself more and more frustrated with his attraction towards Amanda. After tracking Roger for six days, they were caught in a rainstorm. He tried to get Amanda to go stay in a nearby cabin. She refused to go without him. They ended up finding shelter together and he finally gave in to his lust. Jacob was surprised to realize that he really felt that he was making love with Amanda. He was beginning to realize that he was drawn to Amanda and she was something about her that drew him to her. He couldn't fight it.
Jacob ended up leaving her at the cabin and went out again to search for Roger alone. He had no luck and returned to the cabin, intending to stay in the barn. Amanda was surprised to find the cabin belonged to Jacob's sister and her Indian husband. She had assumed that it was a white couple inside. Jacob and his sister didn't get along well due to her marrying an Indian. Jacob had said some pretty mean things to Gail when he found out she was going to live with an Indian. Gail was hoping that Amanda would be the one to bring them back to getting along again.
Amanda was trying to decided whether or not to go into the barn and check on Jacob when she turned from the door to find him standing behind her. They ended up making love in the cabin. She fell asleep and Jacob was tempted to go through her saddlebags. He had agreed to help Amanda for a fee and he was curious to see if she actually had the money she promised him. She didn't and he was furious. He hated being lied to. He woke up Amanda and told her to get dressed, they were leaving. She at first refused to leave but realized he would leave without her if she didn't go along.
Amanda didn't know why Jacob was so mad at her and they didn't speak for three days. They ended up stopping in a town called Junction that was two days from Pony. Jacob left her in a hotel while he went to a saloon. He had a few drinks but couldn't get Amanda out of his head no matter what he did. He decided to go see her and found two men outside her room discussing going inside and raping her. Jacob stopped them and Amanda came into the hallway and heard the fighting. She also heard Jacob tell the men that she was his woman. Jacob didn't realize how good that made her feel.
They went into her room and finally talked about why Jacob was mad at her. She made him listen to her explanation as to why she had lied to him. He accused her of knowing who had taken Roger and he finally believed that she wasn't in on it. She explained that she hadn't known him at all when they first met and she knew she needed help. She wasn't convinced at the time that he would have helped without her lying to him. They ended up sleeping together and he snuck out before she woke up. It took her three more hours to wake up and realize he was gone. She wasn't sure he was returning so she took a gun and threatened the desk clerk to tell her which direction Jacob went.
Jacob had followed the tracks of the horses carrying Roger and those who had taken him. He stopped when he felt like he was half an hour away to wait until they had set up camp. He was once again thinking of Amanda and hoping that their situation with Roger would soon be over. One of the kidnappers snuck up on Jacob and knocked him out. He was a big guy, much larger than Jacob.
Henry took Jacob back to their camp and tied him up. Jacob was still unconscious while he had his brother, Tom, discussed how they were going to torture Jacob.
Amanda had somehow managed to follow Jacob's trail through the snowy ground and seeing the tracks he left. She arrived just after Henry began to cut on Jacob. She entered their camp with her gun. She gave Jacob back his knife and he cut himself loose while she held a gun on the brothers. Roger woke up and began moaning. She noticed the bruising on him and was momentarily distracted. The brothers struck then. Henry grabbed Amanda and she kicked and fought. She ended up biting him before he got her gun and she shot him in the chest, killing him. Jacob was weak from losing blood after being cut and his arm hurt. Tom had him pinned down and was choking the life out of him when Amanda closed her eyes and shot him in the chest. They were sore but not dead. Jacob bandaged his arm while Amanda checked on Roger. It was a surprise to see Roger crying and holding tightly to Amanda.
Jacob buried the brothers the next day and they prepared to head out. They cleaned up and fed Roger. He had not been given a bath or fed properly since he had been taken. He was also badly bruised and had a swollen eye. They put him to bed and began to talk. Amanda told Jacob that she was in love with him and was surprised to hear him say that it was not supposed to happen. He tried to convince Amanda that she shouldn't feel that way. He told her that her being with him would only cause problems. She would never be accepted by white people if she stayed with him. She told him that it was obvious that he wasn't proud of being half Indian and wanted to be white. He wasn't accepted and that was something that he needed to deal with. He tried to deny it but he knew she was right. He needed time to think about what she said. She had told him that she didn't care if he was a half-breed. She loved him and he was surprised at the knowledge that she had killed for him and she was a white woman. He hadn't expected that of her.
They took Roger to Pony, Montana to meet with his father and collect her pay. She left Jake at a bar after he told them that he was going inside to find out where Roger's father lived. Amanda and Roger decided not to wait on him. It didn't take them long to find the biggest, fanciest house in town. Roger was a changed child. He was slimmer and quieter. He was much better behaved than when they started out. Amanda stayed for lunch and collected her fee. She stepped outside to leave and Jake had arrived to find her. Roger's father was extremely rude to Jake because he was a half-breed. The comments made by both men angered Amanda enough to where she gave Jake his share and threw the rest back at Edward Banister. Jake was surprised that he hadn't even had to ask Amanda for his money. He had expected her to try and get out of giving him what she had promised him. He certainly didn't expect her to stick up for him with Edward and throw her money back at him.
Amanda bought what supplies she could afford and headed out on her way to Washington. She had traveled for 5 days and finished the last can of peaches she had in her saddlebag. She was starting to regret having thrown the money back at Edward. She had a long way to go with no money left.
She felt dirty and heard water flowing nearby. She found the stream and scrubbed herself clean when she felt someone watching her. She dropped her clothes and held her gun in her hands. She demanded that whoever was hiding to show themself. She was surprised and happy to see Jake. He told Amanda to come to him but she refused. She wouldn't let him see how much she wanted him. She had felt rejected when he was silent after she told him she loved him. She didn't want to feel that way again.
Jake grabbed her and kissed her. She felt his head and realized that he had cut his hair to look more acceptable to the white people.
They woke up the next morning and Amanda found out that Jake had been following her for the past few days. He told her that she wasn't headed towards Washington. She was headed south and was now in Wyoming rather than Idaho. He told her that he was there to make sure she got where she was headed. He then told her that he was going with her and admitted that he couldn't live without her. He was in love with her. He told her that he wanted to hear her tell him that she loved him too. He wouldn't reject her ever again. He just wanted to make one stop first before they got too far. He wanted to stop by and see his sister to apologize to her and meet his twin nephews.

Amanda Lennox needed a job, she had inherited some property in Seattle, when her father died, but she needs to get there from Boston. Amanda answers an add in the paper for a job that will not only make her some money but get her all the way to Montana as well. How hard could it be to watch one ten year old little boy and escort him from Boston to Pony, Montana? She hadn't counted on the little boy being the brat that Roger Thornton Bannister III turned out to be.

Jacob Blackhawk Chandler, half Crowe indian, raised by his white father, had learned his lesson about white ladies. Jake however can't seem to refuse when Roger finds him to help get Amanda unstuck from the middle of a stream. Jake may find Amanda attractive and even enjoys a bit of a grope of her leg while her foot is stuck but he isn't going to get involved with a white woman again.

When Jake and Amanda make it back to the horses, after he helps her from the stream, they find that Roger is missing. Roger my be a brat but he is also the son of one of the wealthiest men in Montana and Amanda is sure he has been kidnapped. How can she trust a man she just met, a man who himself says he isn't a gentleman to help her and not kidnap Roger again once they get him back? Amanda decides a few little white lies are in order. After convincing Jake to help by promising to pay him a sum that amounts to 3/4 of what she will make from the job escorting Roger, she tells Jake that Roger is her cousin. Jake and Amanda have chemistry from the first moment they meet. Whether its during fire making lessons that turn into kissing or spotting Jake naked as he is coming out of the stream from a swim, Amanda finds that she is falling for Jake. Relationship problems in the past and racial prejudice keep Jake in a constant state of emotional turmoil as he finds he is having feelings for Amanda but isn't sure he can get past the fact that she is a white lady.

In an interracial romance such as these there are a couple of ways to handle the prejudice that invariably happens, you can ignore it completely, you can write as if we live in a perfect world and no one ever has a prejudice, you can make a few passing remarks but not make the entire book about the racial struggles and differences between the couple and or other characters in the book, of you can make the book all about the racial divide and the prejudice and troubles the couple faces because of the interracial aspect of the romance. This novel manages to ride the fine line between mentioning it and making the whole relationship about it. The characters are well developed and the plot unfolds as the story is told. Amanda is a great heroine in her ability to be colorblind to the differences between her and Jake. The story shows a few instances of outside prejudice and shows the struggle Jake has with it as well as with his own struggles being half indian raised white. The love story is touching and real and it has plenty of sexual tension and love scenes to keep it hot. The steamy scenes are just that steamy not explicit but enough to make you cross your legs a few times. The book is an enjoyable mix of Western historical romance, suspense novel and interracial love story. I enjoyed it very much.

This was a real bodice-ripping (quite literally) page-sizzler!

Amanda Lennox's job is to accompany a precocious little brat from Boston to Pony in Montana to reunite him with his wealthy father. Her wilderness expertise is somewhat questionable and she manages to find herself not only way off route in Idaho, but also in dire need of assistance when she gets stuck in a freezing cold stream-bed. Her unruly charge manages to find help in the form of Jake Chandler, a half-white, half-Indian (Injun), cynical 'hunk' of a man.

Sparks fire immediately between Amanda and Jake and while they are hurling abuse at each other (shrouding the inevitable magnetism they feel for each other), the obnoxious little scamp is kidnapped. Jake and Amanda have to fight the undeniable attraction they have for each other and collaborate to find the boy, so that Amanda can deliver him safely to his father.

I found the story rather slow – 30-40% into the book Jake and Amanda were still dancing around each other, with only one thing in the way – she is a Bostonian 'lady' with spunk and independence, he is a 'half-breed' with a colossal chip on this shoulder and I did get rather impatient wishing they would just get on with it. I did, however, like the author's style and was very impressed by her rich and sumptuous vocabulary; she finds endless ways to describe a copper-skinned, lean-hipped, taut-stomached, inky-haired, sooty-eyelashed, chisel-jawed hunk and reasons why Jake and Amanda should not give into their carnal desires. Her portrayal and conception of the pair were immaculate – there was a very African Queen (Bogart-Hepburn - for those old enough to remember!) aura about their relationship – and I liked them both as characters – they both had a rebellious, non-conformist nature. However, the book was just too long for the depth of plot. It could have been half the length and still have delivered the same amount of heat and passion with no loss of intensity. The skill of the author is evident whether the book is 200 pages long or 400.

The book had me wanting more, not of the plot or characters, but most certainly of Rebecca's writing. It is luxuriant, expressive, warm, flamboyant and gratifying. I would certainly like to read more from this author.

Amanda Lennox, blond, green eyed and intelligent, at least she thought she was intelligent until she lied to get this job of bringing Roger Thornton Bannister III home. The little monster was making the already rough trip through the western countryside unbearable. Amanda has always prided herself on her even temper but now, stuck in the river, with the spoiled Roger splashing her and demanding lunch, Amanda is ready to blow. Even Roger realizes that perhaps he's pushed her too far and goes rushing off into the forest to find someone to help Amanda.

To Amanda's surprise and relief, Roger comes back with a man. But after just a few minutes with this man, Amanda's wondering if maybe being trapped in the river wasn't better than having to put up with this man.

Jacob Blackhawk Chandler is no one's idea of a hero, including himself. A half breed Indian with a chip the size of the Rockies on his shoulder, Jake doesn't want to get involved with Amanda and Roger but since there is no one else around to get Amanda out of the hole she's in, he steps up.

Getting out of the river requires a lot more body contact then Amanda was prepared for. She's thankful that Jake was there to help but is uneasy with the new thoughts crowding her head. She just wants to get back on the trail and get Roger home.

Ready to leave Amanda and Roger to find their way through the country side is fine with him until Roger comes up missing. Amanda turns again to him for help and against his better judgement, Jake agrees to help find Roger. He tells himself it's because of the money that Amanda has offered him and nothing else.

As Amanda and Jake trek through the countryside on Roger's trail, they find themselves drawn to each other. But what kind of life can a angry half breed offer a proper Bostonian white woman specially in a country where Indians and white people don't mix, and being caught together can cause death?

I really enjoyed this novel. With wonderful commentary on the western countryside, the tiny towns and the relationships between people of different races this was a very readable novel. The characters are well rounded, with some flaws which helps to make them believable. The story clips along at a steady pace.

An emotional journey where two very different people find love.

Looking for a way to get to the ranch her father has left her, Amanda Lennox takes a job escorting a young boy to Montana in hopes of making some money. Little did she know that not only was the young boy an absolute hellion but they got lost for weeks. After getting herself stuck in a freezing river she is forced to send the boy to get help. He returns a bit later with an arrogant halfbreed with a serious chip on his shoulder. Jacob doesn't want anything to do with the white lady who is stuck in the river but something compels him to help her out. Meanwhile, the boy is off gathering blankets and supplies. While away, he manages to get himself kidnapped. Now Amanda and Jacob must go on a journey to find the boy and return him to his father as originally planned. Amanda and Jacob have an instant attraction to each other. Amanda is not exactly sure how to handle her desire for Jacob but knows that she wants him. Jacob on the other hand, can't seem to deny his attraction even though he knows that "no respectable white lady would want a breed" Together, they find the boy and also find themselves in a very personally predicament.

I liked this story a lot. The plot was great and the characters where well rounded. I liked how Amanda, even though she was taught to be a lady, didn't act like a spoiled women. She was brave and tough and didn't complain the whole time they were out in the wilderness. Right away Jacob kind of turned my off. He was arrogant, rude, and just plain mean. After a while and after he explained how his life had been, I began to understand that he is not normally like that but he has emotional scars that run very deep.

Through a very action packed, passionate and intense journey through the Montana wilderness, these two people heal each other and realize they are destined to be together. I would definitely recommend this book.

“Yes, I must be,” Amanda said in a tone that would have done any tea social justice-calm, cool, collected…savage. “I’m crazy to have taken a job where my employer was a prejudiced bastard like yourself. Lord knows what I was thinking.” Jake grinned. He knew damn well what he was thinking: that his prissy little white princess had lost her cotton pickin’ mind! He didn’t say that, though. He couldn’t. For the first time in his life, a woman had left him speechless. He found his voice fast enough when Amanda spun on her heel and stalked toward the mare..."Amanda..." "Oh, shut the hell up, Jake," she snapped irritably. "I know what I'm doing." "I doubt that, princess. I really do."...Had Amanda just cussed? Amanda?

Montana Wildfire is written for the reader who loves the period before the West was really tamed, a time when Indians were looked upon as savages, and a half-breed could expect a life of misery. The story is well written and the characters deeply developed. Rebecca Sinclair is a wonderful writer and knows how to weave a story that grabs a reader and doesn’t let go until the last page of the book.

The words, the smells, the sights, and the sounds leap off of the page and leave you gasping either for a fresh breath of air or at an astounding view of the mountains.
I am a great fan of this particular era and have read hundreds of books from different authors. This story was authentic and enjoyable. It had love, drama, suspense, murder, and did I mention love (sighing here). There were no noticeable grammatical errors in the book and in my opinion, well written and edited.

I am giving Montana Wildfire five stars because it meets all of the criteria I look for in a great book – original story, character development, grammar, and conflict resolution. Montana Wildfire is a definite must read, and Rebecca Sinclair is an author you should add to your list of favorites.

Review

Montana Wildfire is a historical romance. Amanda Lennox is a young lady recently “released” from a ladies finishing school before she is ready. Find her way the ranch her late father left her Amanda needs money to get there. Escorting a young boy to Pony Montana to his wealthy father doesn’t seem to be that hard to make some money. Until she meets the little hellion. After getting herself stuck in a river Amanda has no choice but to send the boy to get help. When he returns with the help she needs she meets an arrogant half-breed named Jacob Blackhawk Chandler who has a serious chip on his shoulder. The boy gets himself kidnapped and Amanda enlists Jacob to help her find the boy so she can return him to his father and get paid. Amanda and Jacob are instantly attracted to each other but fight it. I liked the story. Amanda has courage and gumption and Jacob is sexy but hurting from society’s “rules” that that 'breeds' do not get involved with white women. The characters where well rounded. The journey is long and passion filled. I remember reading this before but enjoyed it again. The first time I read it, it was in print form and had a different cover. I like this cover better.

Amanda Lennox is on her way out west to a ranch her father has left her. With very little money she agrees to escort a young boy to Montana. Along the way they both get lost for a few weeks. The boy is a more then a handful he is a hellion. With Amanda stuck in the river as her ankle is caught the boy gives her a hard time. He finally goes to find help and when Amanda is about to give up Jacob shows up with the boy. Amanda is taken back as he is looks like an Indian something she was afraid of happening. Jacob has no desire to really help the white woman in the river. Amanda does not care too much for him as he is arrogant. They fight an attraction to each other.

A wonderful read by Rebecca. I have read a few other books by her and love her writing style. Amanda does not come across as snobby and yet she is a lady. She did not whine and complain the time they were out in the woods. You want to dislike Jacob until you learn more about his situation. I enjoyed the romance and the message that different people can come together and love each other.

Fire never burned so hot. When Amanda Lennox gets lost in the woods with her charge, Roger who is a spoiled brat, Jake is her only hope. The boy is kidnapped and Jake agrees to help Amanda find him. The following adventure is filled with searing romance and painful separations. One of my favorite moments was when Jake teaches Amanda how to build a fire by comparing it to love-making.

This novel reads very much like California Caress, also by Rebecca Sinclair. If you enjoyed that book, you are sure to enjoy this one as well. There was a few points where I had minor difficulty with the movement of the story. I thought that at one point Jake wouldn’t smoke when he was near the men that he was tracking. The smell of smoke would carry and it seemed that plot-wise, it was unnecessary and out of character. Also, in the next few scenes, Amanda turned away from the same men and it seemed to me that in that situation she would have been more careful when she was in that kind of danger.

Other than those minor points, I thought this was a solid 4 star story.

Amanda Lennox is stuck with her foot in a tree trunk in a river. This is how we are introduced to her and that should tell you a lot about her. In her attempt to get the little monster Roger Bannister III from Virginia City, MT to Pony, MT (less that a days ride on horse) she somehow got them lost for 2 weeks in the wilderness and they are now in Idaho. She has the worst sense of direction and dubious survival skills. To Jake Blackhawk Chandler she seems just like another spoiled white woman but there is more to Amanda than meets the eye. As a "'breed" Jake is stuck between two worlds never being fully accepted and often not even tolerated. This of course has caused him to have a massive chip on his shoulder. Not all of his distrust is unwarranted but is does cause a lot of grief between him and Amanda. There is never a dull moment while Jake and Amanda are on the trail of the kidnapped Roger.

This book had promise, it let me down in a few ways the worst being how jake changed his hair, shoes etc to appear less Native American to please Amanda at the end. Seriously wtf is that about. The inordinate amount of air time to jakes discomfort with his own racial identity and his issues with white people was, in my opinion was in my mind unnecessary to focus on it in that degree, I don't think it added to the story in fact I thought the way it was presented was a tad unrealistic. If it had been a little more subtle it would have worked better. On a positive note the whole brooding hero, feisty heroine was entertaining, I liked the premis of the story , I'd have got just as lost as Amanda :D

Lots of tension between the two main characters, was really nicely executed. Some of the language got to be a bit repetitive, but that's my only really big complaint with this book. Full review to come soon. *Please note I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*

A little to steamy for my reading ... I prefer a little more left to the imagination

I just remember little snippets of this book but the one thing that always stayed with me is that the heroine told the hero he wasn't man enough for her or something like that.
