Can't rate it, as my biggest complaint was the maps all in the back of the book and the amount of flipping required between pictures, description, and maps. I purchased a used version and it looks like the newer version does not have this same issue, so I'll have to hope to pick up the newer version at some point.
Great comprehensive guide although very out of date as taxonomy has changed significantly. Additionally this book focuses on the British names for species.
This volume, part of the Houghton Mifflin series, is an expanded volume done by the same author, Peter Harrison, published by the Stephen Greene Press. Both are excellent guides, the major difference being that the latter version is more compact, and "field-friendly." Both are extremely helpful regarding identification and range descriptions.
