À travers l’histoire d’un jeune photographe de presse s’interrogeant sur ce qu’il doit faire de sa vie, Larcenet brosse une comédie parfois drôle, parfois triste sur le passage à l’âge adulte, sur l’amour et les choix qu’il implique, sur notre comportement vis à vis des autres et du passé.
Une grosse claque par un auteur en état de grâce. Mine de rien, on a beaucoup de chance ! Larcenet est venu chez Dargaud avec Les entremondes. C’était déjà vraiment bien. Puis coup sur coup, on a vu et lu son évolution et l’on assiste, en direct, à l’avènement d’un auteur hors du commun, sans doute le meilleur de sa génération.

Le Retour à la terre, sommet d’humour était la première étape : prouver que Larcenet peut faire rire tout le monde, des lecteurs de La vie est courte au bédéphile le plus pointu ; Le combat ordinaire enfonce magistralement le clou dans une veine plus réaliste, tendre et violente.

Tout ce que bien des cinéastes ou des romanciers ont voulu capter sur le passage à l’âge adulte, sur l’amour et les choix qu’il implique, sur notre comportement vis à vis des autres et de l’Histoire, Le combat ordinaire parvient miraculeusement à le retranscrire, nous le faire partager. Tous les débats stériles sur la guerre d’Algérie, puisqu’il s’agit aussi de ça, prennent une grande baffe dans la gueule. Le combat ordinaire est l’œuvre d’un auteur en état de grâce qui parvient dans une chronique douce amère, jamais intello et toujours légère à parler de façon simple de choses très compliquées.

Marco is disturbed by the images he's taken as a war photographer and moved to the French countryside with his troublesome cat to re-find himself. He's plagued by anxiety and panic attacks. He often wanders the countryside and befriends an old man while repeatedly getting into with another neighbor who considers him a trespasser. I wasn't a big fan of the art, but I did like the humor of the book.

Ranskalaisen Manu Larcenetin "Pieniä voittoja" (WSOY, 2006) on modernin, aikuisille suunnatun sarjakuvan kirkkaimpia helmiä.

Sarjakuvataiteilijan karikatyyrimaiset makkaranenät voisivat olla ulkomuotonsa puolesta lähtöisin jostakin huumorisarjakuvasta, mutta päähenkilönsä Marcon kautta sarjassa käsitellään toinen toistaan painavampia teemoja, jotka pysäyttävät kolmekymmentä-ja-risaisen lukijansa uudelleen ja uudelleen. Sitoutumiskammo, suhde ikääntyviin vanhempiin, paniikkihäiriö, kyllästyminen työhön - siinäpä on pureskeltavaa. Huumoria ei kuitenkaan unohdeta tyystin.

En osaa täysin varmaksi sanoa, onko tämä 2000-luvun paras sarjakuva, mutta mestariteoksesta voin silti puhua vilpittömin sydämin.

'Ordinary Victories #1' by Mano Larcenet feels like an odd sort of story to be told in a graphic novel form, but I think it is served well.

Marco was a photographer and spent enough time taking photos of dead bodies, that he's found himself in therapy. He's tired of that, and really doesn't want to work, so he moves to a remote village to try to get by. He takes up with a cat named Adolf and gets to know the quirky neighbors. There is the neighbor with the shotgun and the private property signs, and there is the weird, silent one who just kind of shows up and eats Marco's food. Marco also meets Emilie and she challenges him to rejoin the world around him.

The story feels like non-fiction almost. The category is definitely drama with a bit of humor thrown in. The art style feels a bit weird for this story, but I found myself feeling for this character, so I wouldn't mind a chance to find out what happens next with him.

This is a beautifull story about the life of a French guy.

The only thing I still wonder is what happened with the guy's brother and his family, because they kinda dissappear halfway through the book.

Lapsena ahmin Akkareita (kukapa ei), rakastin Tinttejä, kahlasin läpi Asterixit ja Lucky Luket, lueskelin Nakke Nakuttajaa, Orsonia ja Karvista. Pieniä voittoja on oikein mainio ja laadukas albumi, joka kertoo elämänsä uusiksi panevasta Marcosta: taakse jää niin koti kaupungissa, työ valokuvaajana kuin vuosikausia jatkunut terapia. Kissa kainaloon ja kohti uusia seikkailuja! Mutta pääseekö paniikkihäiriöstä ja muista ongelmista eroon vain muuttamalla maaseudun rauhaan?

Larcenet käsittelee tässä palkitussa teoksessaan toinen toistaan vakavampia aiheita sitoutumiskammosta sotaan, mutta ilahduttavasti välissä pilkahtelee myös huumoria. Suosittelen lämpimästi, sekä tätä albumia että noin yleensäkin tutustumista aikuisille suunnattuihin sarjakuviin.

3.25* I wanted to like this book more, especially since it deals with finding passion in one's work and life and committing to the life you're in. But I'd say it's more of a dude's story. I recognize that getting high and being immature was a way to deal with anxiety and probably post traumatic stress from his job but it made it difficult to attach to the character... Yet I feel his naivete and pain when he discovers that his friend isn't who he thought he was and his neighbor was exactly who he said he was. I didn't like how the girlfriend was sort of a manic pixie dream girl flitting in and out just waiting for him to grow up. Ah yeah, that's it, that's why I couldn't give it more *, but I'm willing to give volume 2 a go

Los combates cotidianos es la historia de un fotógrafo que ya no quiere seguir siéndolo, de un neurótico que teme el cambio, de un personaje humano, entrañable y confundido. Un cómic de aire triste, cuyos personajes se sienten cercanos y al que sólo hay que reprocharle su corta duración, que deja con las ganas de saltar sobre el siguiente volumen a saber cómo seguirá la vida de su protagonista.

J'ai bien aimé, les dessins sont agréables, les émotions bien retranscrites.

Mais globalement c'était une bonne lecture
Je n'ai plus trop l'habitude de lire des BD en plusieurs tomes donc maintenant j'ai hâte de lire les autres pour mieux comprendre l'histoire du personnage !

Con este me terminó pasando algo parecido a lo que me pasó poco después con Gus: me hablaron tan pero tan bien que cuando finalmente me leí el comic me quedó gusto a poco. Es más: iba en el bondi leyéndolo cuando un pelado se me sienta al lado, y tuvimos esta conversación:
-Muy buen cómic, eh. Muy triste también.
-Por ahora viene bastante gracioso.
-Sí, esperá vas a ver cómo sigue.
-Ah...
Y después se puso a leer La Isla Panorama de Maruo y seguimos cada uno en lo suyo...
Quizás tendría que haberme mandado de una con el integral en vez de los libros episódicos, pero como en su momento no lo tenía a mano me conformé con este. Y de todos modos la pasé bastante bien. Dibujos muy bonitos y expresivos. Partes humorísticas bien logradas y, sobre todo, una muy buena compenetración con el protagonista y sus angustias, las clínicas y las otras. Eso sí, qué tristeza que termine con una muerte. Justo con ESA muerte... El pelado tenía razón.

The art in Ordinary Victories is lovely. I read this, or a version of it, some years ago, but it did not stick in my memory quite the same way this particular volume does. Perhaps it struck me more deeply this time because of the protagonist, Marco, and his (former) employment as a war photographer. As the threat of war seems omnipresent these days, the idea of an exhausted photographer seeking to move on from his painful career for a simple life in the countryside is particularly appealing. The panic attacks and PTSD-like symptoms he experiences are very well portrayed, as are his mixed feelings regarding his seemingly good-natured neighbor. Though it's a relatively short book, there's a lot to unpack -- and it's well worth doing so.

En osaa lukea sarjakuvia sen enempää kuin runojakaan. Tämä albumi kuitenkin kosketti, ja sen maagisuus syntyi juuri sanan ja kuvan liitosta. Hyvin pienin viittauksin tarina kulkee eteenpäin ja näemme valokuvaaja Marcon elämästä vuoden, jonka aikana hän jättää työnsä, joutuu sopeutumaan uusiin naapureihinsa ja löytää kenties elämänsä rakkauden. Kaikkeen hän ei ole valmis, ja kaksiväriset ruudut näyttävät, miltä paniikkikohtaus tuntuu. Kirjan viimeinen ruutu puolestaan kertoo kauniisti sen, miksi ihminen hakeutuu toisen ihmisen luo: "Kaikki on paremmin sinun kanssasi kuin ilman sinua."

Marco est un jeune photographe de presse qui déprime après avoir photographié « des cadavres exotiques ou gens en passe de le devenir » en Birmanie ou Kabylie.
Le titre est bien choisi : il montre le combat de tous les jours, fait de petits riens (visites à la famille, nouvelles connaissances), pour remonter à la surface et regagner l'envie de créer.

On sent des racines auto-biographiques, mais enrobées d'humour. Un album profond et plaisant.

Cette Bd n'est pas à lire quand on est mal !
Mais je l'ai vraiment beaucoup aimée,je ne suis pas fan des dessins pourtant je trouve qu'ils correspondent parfaitement à l'ambiance et à l'histoire.
C'est une BD à lire je pense dans laquelle on peut se retrouver en partie du moins.

Edellisestä lukukerrasta on jo yli kymmenen vuotta, ja piti ihan testata miten toimii itselle nykyään. Edelleen upea teos. Teemat yhä ajankohtaisia, no eivät kaikki tietenkään itselle, ja päähenkilöihin on helppo samaistua. Täytynee lukea sarjan loputkin osat uudelleen.

The introspective interstitial pages that show up early on let me know this would be more substantial than its cartoonishly light-hearted surface. Swapping to a monochromatic sketched style that’s much more realistic, these single pages demonstrate Marco’s weightier self-reflection and internal struggles. I particularly enjoyed the relatability of these moments often showing up during longer solo car trips.

Marco is burnt out on his life as a photographer in Paris and moves to the rural French countryside hours away, with no specific plan beyond knowing what he doesn’t want to do right now. While wiling away his days there, he makes two very different acquaintances that push him to mature and better understand what he wants from life. This brief first volume ends with a lot of story potentially left to tell, but I appreciated that it’s still a satisfying conclusion to this era of Marco’s life.

Après 8 ans de thérapie, un photographe solitaire et angoissé met fin à celle-ci. Il vit avec son chat Adolf. Improductif, il finit par perdre son boulot. Il se promène en forêt, rencontre un voisin peu sociable et un pêcheur moins innocent qu’il ne le pensait. Que lui réserve la vie ?

En quatrième de couverture on peut lire : « C’est l’histoire d’un photographe fatigué, d’une fille patiente, d’horreurs banales, et d’un chat pénible ».

Es un BD que al principio parece tan costumbrista que no va a haber un crecimiento o un cambio en el personaje principal, sin embargo, al final de la historia hay una pequeña concesión y el protagonista logra avanzar un poco. Leí esto para practicar mi francés y lo pude entender bastante bien, a pesar del lenguaje informal. No está mal, sin embargo, no me veo leyendo un segundo volumen de Le combat ordinaire. Las ilustraciones están bien pero siguen un formato muy tradicional. En general, no es mi estilo.

Un photographe reporter de guerre n’a plus envie de travailler. Il n’a plus trop envie de rien. Dès rencontres autour de la maison dans laquelle il vient d’emménager à la campagne l’amènent à se poser les bonnes questions. Lu en une heure, un bon moment !
