BOUND is a tricky tale that takes your heart and mind on an exciting danger-filled journey. You start out with normal things, people you know, places you can relate to, only to discover that things are not as you'd expected, people are not just people and anything can happen.

At least, that's how the story was for me. I liked Kira and could immediately relate to her feelings of insecurity and reclusiveness. So when Kira had to adapt to the changes around her, to learn and grow, I grew right along with her.

C.K. Bryant does a brilliant job of writing a paranormal romance that combines what we know with what we don't, love with hate, danger with hope. She had me turning the page, sitting on the edge of my seat and wishing I could read the next book in the series right away. A truly excellent modern-day tale that I highly recommend for fans of YA novels that feature a strong female protagonist.

I just did not like this book. I'm trying to think if I can summarize it, I think I can...

Everyone: Kira, promise me, pretty please promise me, that you will stay here/not go there/go to there/do this one thing/be quiet/not put yourself in mortal peril?

Kira: Sure. Then immediately puts herself in mortal peril.

Octavion: I love you. I'm so angry all the time, I must roar and smash things. Don't look at me, look at me while I'm attacking you! RAWR, smash. But I have dimples so the heroine will forget I'm a messed up teenager with anger management problems.

Lydia: You didn't tell her (Kira gets injured) I thought you told her (Kira gets injured), we can't tell you (Kira gets injured), I want to tell you (Kira gets injured), I told you, oh, well we didn't tell you the other part, after we told you we told you (Kira gets injured).

I barely made it through, I almost gave up so many times.

Have you ever seen a picture that is so busy, you can't quite tell what it is of? And if you really concentrate you see that nothing is really happening? That's how I felt reading this story. It moved so fast, jumping from point to point without all the necessary in-between fluff that helps to set the pace. Set over only a few days, this story was too long yet not that much actually happened. The emotions were unrealistic, I mean the guy practically beats her and three seconds later they're discussing how they're in love? The only thing she knows of him is that he has a violent temper and is attractive. Yep, that is love! And the almost sex scene? It's like the second time they kiss and it goes there??? And why the hell is the sister out to get them? If its so she can be queen, it really doesn't make sense for them to be running. And why would Bastian be helping her if he wasn't the one wanting to marry her? I didn't get so many points. Then in the end, she's borrowing from Octavians blood and from Lydia's spirit, plus she has some tiny gifts of her own? It was a little too complicated.

I really don't understand where the great reviews came from. The idea was good and I was really looking forward to this story, but I was greatly disappointed. I won't be bothering with the sequel.

Awkward. Everything about this is awkward. The characters do things that make no sense, the plot is elusive (when not nonsensical), the author shifts PoV at whim, but what kept smacking me in the face was the nearly constant withholding of information by overly convenient interruption. If it wasn't "it's not my place to explain" it was some dramatic stupidiocy by someone else that'd get in the way of actual information exchange.

I could have dealt with the drip/skip of information if the characters had made sense. But you have Lydia going from casually disarming an opponent to being stabbed by the knife she carried while conveniently off-screen. It was stupid even before we got to the wound ramping up to suddenly life-threatening with a hand-wavy "it must be internal bleeding" excuse. My last straw was when Lydia pulled an "I'll save you from saving me by hiding." stunt. That's at 14% in. Oh, and just because I'm picking on Lydia don't think Kira isn't as inconsistently stupid, too, and it was a rare moment when Octavion stayed consistent for two pages in a row. What a mess...

I have no words to express what this book made me go through. That probably explains why I couldn't get through the last 40 something pages.

The book started out fine enough, but towards page 20 something, it feels like the author just slapped me in the face, threw me over a cliff and let me hanging there screaming for help!

As the story goes on (again I remind myself no spoilers of how bad this book was) she falls for the BFF's brother, who has a really weird name which I still have no clue if I'm even pronouncing it right, which is Octavion (I'm pretty sure that's the wrong spelling....). & guess what? He has this HUGE GINORMOS secret which is too HORRIBLE and won't let her in to his SOUL. OH the sadness...-yawn-

What still comes to my attention when I remember this character (whose name I forget...) is that she reminded me of an EVEN WEAKER version of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight star, Bella. At various moments she just cowered and was recoiled into herself. It was a pretty boring read.

I would recommend this book to those of you who are still Twilight fans and love damsil in distress kind of novels. I won't be picking up book 2 of this series even if someone paid me, because, trust me, any amount of money isn't worth that kind of psychological torture.

I'd like to provide a WARNING: -14 age, this book is extremely safe, easy to read and NOT RECOMMENDED FOR YOUNG ADULTS OVER 14. You'll want more tongue in those kisses!!

Well, stupid personal rule "have to finished what I started".

This book would have been more interesting if we dropped the high school, dropped her parents, gave her an apartment with a roomy(BFF Lydia) and made these kids 18+. Took the middle of all the forest living and the secret telling and dropped it out of the story.
This story had lots of promise, unique powers, good explanation (believable, acceptable). aliens who use the POWER of nature; earth technology was unheard of and difficult for them to use. Well played.
This book was so boring at times it made me fall asleep. The constant fruit/veggie meals, the cave, the shelters..........THE CAMPING was so tiresome and really who cares! The lack of bathing which we were reminded of constantly. GET on with the Fucking story!
The secrets unraveled in a clumsy style and they only led to more secrets and as the reader we could already guess thus becoming frustrated; I knew what was coming.
The medieval way of speaking and dressing for Octavian was too much!
Sure, I was forgiving of C.K Bryant because she always seemed to explain, my eye rolling moments. For instance, Octavian clothing until Kira asked him to wear jeans. But I never felt why he loved her or she loved him other than extreme loneliness and convenience. There was no sexual tension,no passion, no chemistry! And that is why this book was EXTREMELY YOUNG ADULT!!!!

"charmed it so it will only work if your heart is pure-if your intentions are honourable" NO one in this story has that requirement or on their planet for that fact!

How did Kira and Octavion go from hating each other, to one kiss and he's undoing her pants? Their love should have been drawn out so we feel their passion.

I wished the story had started with the betrayal, then their arrival on Earth, then being followed or found by the Darkords this would have been faster and more fun to read.
I like the trend where humans can join, "bound", inherited etc. another beings power only to have them become greater and more powerful. C.K Bryant needed to focus more and edit better.

Bound is the fist book in the Crystor series. Kira is a teenage girl with normal problems and issues to her age, well, that’s how it seems at first anyways. Things quickly turn out to be very different for her and her BFF Lydia.

The story, characters and creatures of Bound are so richly written that you almost believe that these girls might just live down the street from you. It is not just another YA book guys! It is much richer and more enduring than many out there. And Kira? She is sooo not your typical ditzy/weak girl who needs to be rescued, yet she is. But even when she needs help or rescue she is no simpering little waif. I just love her.

Octavion, Lydia’s big brother, is strong, gorgeous, mysterious, oh, and stubborn beyond reason at times yet he has the biggest heart and will so what ever needs done. I’m sure many out there don’t like Octavion much as he does grate a bit but if you look at the why and how of it you see a proud, loving, dedicated and true brother, son, and friend (maybe more) emerge from the attitude he throws out.

Lydia and her alter Altaira are wonderful. Sweet and loving yet powerful and snarky. Just loved her/them.

I can’t wait for book 2, Broken to come out! If you haven’t read Bound you are missing a great read, a wonderful first of the series, and a great adventure / romance. You won’t regret this YA read! It’s definitely and un-put-downable and re-readable book!

Bound by C.K. Bryant totally had me mesmerized from the beginning. Maybe the biggest aspect of this book is that it is so different from what is out there. Bryant’s imagination and unique writing style made the story’s originality very appealing and refreshing.

The world that Bryant created was full of magic and mystery. The characters living in this world will have you amazed with the powers they possess. Kira and Lydia’s friendship was one for the ages. The bond between them was extraordinarily—mentally and emotionally. We usually hear friends say to each other that they would sacrifice their lives for one another but unlike Kira and Lydia, it was very believable. The strength of their friendship is very strong and solid and something I have never read before in a book.

Overall, Bryant’s brilliant story will have you mesmerized and thrilled from beginning to end. It is a roller-coaster ride of excitement, action, mystery, love and friendship that is never before been experienced. It is unique and original. I am forever a Kira fan and I am ready to jump back into this unearthly world when book two comes out.

Bound is the thrilling first book in the Crystor series. Bryant has woven her story with action, a well crafted mythology, and romance that will leave you begging for the next book.

I really enjoyed Bound! It is rare to find a totally unique mythology in today's YA market but C.K. Bryant pulled it off. I really felt like she did an excellent job in her world-building. Kira, the heroine was a wonderful blend of vulnerability and courage. I think my favorite character was probably Lydia. Lydia was a kind, true and loyal friend. Lydia's brother Octavian? Well, when I first met him I never thought I'd end up loving him as much as I did. But boy did he win me over!

Bound is a fantastic, gripping tale full of quick-moving plot laced with twists you won't see coming, action and a tantalizing romance. And the ending? Gah! The ending will leave you begging for the next book!

**Originally posted on Adele Is Reading

Bound is an Urban Fantasy where there are people from another planet coming to Earth in hopes of running from the person who is trying to kill them.

There are two points of view in Bound, but the main view that we read from, and who has the readers attention for the greater majority of the book, is Kira.

Kira is…different. In a matter of words, Kira is stubborn, she’s a survivor, and she loves her friend, Lydia. Kira’s certainly resilient as well. Kira always seems to know when things are up, too. When Kira believes in something, Kira stands her ground. She has a iron will, and she will relent on some things, as long as Kira knows what will happen instead. Over the course of Bound, we see Kira be this little mouse, turn into this lion of a girl.

The happenings of this book are something to be discussed. There is literally so much that happened. I was overcome with feelings many times during this book. I found myself laughing a lot, and I was hoping, and I grieved a little too. My emotions were all over the place.

What happens in this book literally does change Kira’s life forever. When she discovers and learns of Lydia’s secret, her mind will be blown. This only brings the two girls closer. Which is great because the girls are great friends. They’re great together. They seem to know the things that tick them off, and the things to help each other up when one of them is down.

I actually find to be this book a little unrealistic. And not because of the obvious, but because Kira and Lydia don’t have those fights that teenage girls are bound to have. – No pun intended! – What bothers me is that they seem to be really cool, calm, and collected. Even with the other main character in this story! Yeah, they fight, but it’s not the “normal” way.

Sometimes, the way that Bound was written, and the way that everything was set up, irked me. There would be this moment where something was happening, and there was just something about the scene that didn’t add up. It feels like the author was holding back some.

Nevertheless, I absolutely enjoyed rereading this book! I didn’t get to review this book the first time I read it, because back then I didn’t even know that book blogs were a thing. That, and every time I read this book, I forget about it, and then I would remember a scene. Which would lead me to thinking about this book for months trying to remember the name of the book! I’ve actually read Bound quite a few times, and I’m happy to say, that each time I get to reread this book, I have the same reactions as the first time I read this book!

I’m a little bummed that Bound is the first book in a trilogy.. I would have enjoyed knowing what happens to Kira at the end of this novel, going over into the next part of the story.

My Summary:

Kira's mom thinks she's a mouse and underfoot. Her only friend is Lydia but there's something up with her eyes that Kira can't quite pin down. Then there's this feeling of being watched. But the truth is so far from anything Kira ever imaged. As a trip to the mountains to take pictures turns to a fight for survival, Kira must make a choice. Will she risk her life to safe her friend or run away like the frightened mouse her mom believes her to be? What about the mysterious brother that Kira didn't know she had? Why does he seem to know her? What are the feeling Kira sees in his eyes and in her own heart? As the danger increases, will any of them survive or will Kira find the strength to overcome the odds?

My Thoughts:

3 stars - a good read

What is different and unique about Bound is the mythology that C.K. weaves through its pages. It's not a fey world but there is magic. It's not a werewolf world but there is shape-shifting. It's not a vampire world but there is blood lust. Tying all of these things together with "out of this world" lure, C.K. creates a very original world.

The characters are complex and entertaining. Kira is quiet and reserved but has a feisty side that is quickly brought out by Octavion. His temper and rough edges motivate a stronger side of Kira. They complement each other well but of course they can’t make it that easy for each other. Lydia is very interesting. The mystery of her kindred spirit is another very original aspect of this book. I really want to know what happens with that aspect of the book in Broken.

While this book really starts as an urban fantasy, but it’s more of an epic fantasy. If that’s your thing, than this is a good one to pick up.

OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!!! What a book! This book is like nothing I have ever read before! Magic, people transforming into animals, pet animals that can take pain away, other worlds, traveling in a blink of an eye and tragic romance (I say tragic because the girl loves the guy, the guy loves the girl, but if he gets near her, he could kill her). There was also action-packed fighting through out the book. What more could anyone ask for? It had me laughing, gasping and crying out "NNOOOOOO!!!!" Very well done indeed. I'm glad that the second book is out, so that I don't have to anxiously wait for it--though too bad the kindle price is $5. Don't get me wrong, $5 is a terrific price for a book, but when one is an unemployed, and has student loan repayment looming, 0.99 cents is a bit on the expensive side. Just found out that my library does not have any copies of this series :( Just means that I'm going to have to hold out to enjoy the second (and hopefully by that time there will be a 3rd???) book. I cannot give this book enough praise for how excellent it is, and I very much look forward to reading the rest of the series, and anything else written by C.K. Bryant!

In Christine Bryant's debut novel, she brings us a story of a girl pulled into a world completely different of her own to face not only danger and intrigue, but her own internal demons that have plagued her for years. Caught up in a battle between two forces from another world bent on tearing each other apart, Kira discovers strength she never knew she had and learns that no one can determine your worth for you.

I really enjoyed BOUND - the distinctive use of language, the creativity in plot ... and can I just say, Octavion made my heart go pitty-pat on more than one occasion.

This is a book I highly recommend for anyone looking for an adventure, a romance, a thrill-ride, all wrapped into one.

I brought this book home only to have it stolen...by my 13yrold. The next day ( yes she devoured it in a day) she gave it back and asked when the next one was coming out. So, I read it--thoroughly enjoying the super unique set of circumstances that make up her world. Shapeshifters, bloodlust, a beast to tame, magic... Yeah, cool stuff.
Then, the book was stolen again as she took it back to read it again. She likes the cover so well, she has it sitting on her dresser beside her favorite tiger pictures.

Nicely done, Miss Bryant. We'll buy the next one.

I have no desire to finish this book. When the male protagonist nearly breaks the elbow of a girl he likes and forcibly pins her down instead of letting the righteously pissed girl go to let her calm down and listen to his explanation and then drugs her when she still fights, and then the girl finds his embrace comforting instead of terrifying, all within the first thirty pages, I know this book is going to suck. Octavian is an abusive jerk and based on other reviews he doesn't get brought to task for this. No thanks. I don't like abusive men in what's supposed to be the good romance.

I read “Bound” in a matter of days, and enjoyed Christine’s fresh take on YA fantasy. The book was a swashbuckling adventure, full of creativity with characters demonstrating a fierce loyalty and unconquerable spirit. This is the first book of a trilogy, and she has set up an exciting tale that will carry onto her next books.

You know, I was considering being generous and giving Bound two stars and then the author killed the tiger and I decided enough is enough.

This was just bad. I probably should've given up but I plowed on through, what, 50 something chapters thinking "surely this will get better". But alas, no. Pretty much everything that you can imagine was wrong with it. First of all, the writing. There were grammatical mistakes. Not many, maybe, but someone who calls themselves an author really ought to know the difference between "your" and "you're". Seriously. No excuse. The voice(s) were terribly inauthentic. I'm sorry but no teenage girl in the history of ever has a voice like that. If you can't create believable young adult characters then maybe you ought to write adult fiction instead. Mind you, I'd like to think no adult would put up with this kind of writing.

The relationship between Lydia and her brother felt off and if this were a more serious book I might've thought it was hinting at a touch of incest. I don't mean them loving/being protective of each other, I mean odd moments where she's all snuggling into him like he was her love interest, not her friend's. Speaking of love interests, oh my god Ms Bryant, even instalove needs a vague beginning/explanation. Octavion being obsessed with Kira before they've even met (as far as we know) and generally peering at her from behind trees and so on is creepy stalkerish, not romantic.

Octavion of the stupid name is pretty unlikeable a character in general. He spends his life pushing people around and punching things but it's ok because he's sorry afterwards. Oh and guess what? Not only is he an alien - because that just isn't cool enough - but he's also some Teen Wolf style were-thingamyjiggy. Gotta have those stereotypes. Lydia and her alter ego aren't too bad as characters go but Kira is just irritating. Not only does she not talk or think like a real person, but she's so thick she doesn't even recognise the blatantly obvious. But it's all good because she's totally into the silver ring thing. Now that I think of it, maybe the crystor is her silver ring. Like it's her wondrous virginity that gives her all these magical powers. Hmm...

Thank goodness this was free because if I'd've paid as much as 50p I'd be, well, less than happy.

Kira is a normal girl with a best friend who turns out to be something not quite normal in this world. She discovers her friend Lydia is a Royal from another world. Her stepbrother is here with her, and they are trying to fit in and live a normal life away from their older sister who wants them dead. Though they try to fit in, they just can't do it. The brother is a shape-shifter who craves human flesh since he is part animal. He has found himself a cave in the mountains to live in while watching over his sister through magical means. When the older sister sends her scouts to find Lydia things really get going. Kira gets dragged into the fight as Lydia shifts to protect herself and the truth comes out. She gets really involved when the only way to save Lydia's life is to be bound to her through magic. Kira discovers she's able to heal people, and herself with the help of the Crystor. Though the healing causes her pain, and her death is possible, Kira still does it to help her friend. Once she's bound to them, she can't get away from the situation.
Though older brother/bodyguard tries to stay away from Kira to keep her safe, he is still drawn to her. She learns about his secret, and accepts it, but is strong enough to call him on it when he crosses the line.

The fight scenes, the danger, the intrigue, the romance, and the secrets are all placed so perfectly it keeps you turning page after page to find out what happens next.

I really enjoyed it. It was new and refreshing. A clean romance with just the right amount of steam.

I would totally recommend this book to people who like Stephanie Myers Twilight books, and even to those who don't. C.K.Bryant has the talent to take something far fetched like space travel, magic, shapeshifting, healing, and telepathy seem real and believable.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I'm really looking forward to the sequel. Can't wait.

BOUND tells us the story of Kira, a young girl like any other, with the normal problems of her age; her relationship with her mother and her stepfather, school and friends. But what Kira doesn't know is that her best friend Lydia is hiding something, and when suddenly Kira discovers the truth, she will find herself immerse in a completely different world.

When you see this book for first time, it can look like any other young adult book; A normal teenager girl who discovers a really dark secret and now she needs to adapt to that secret, which is bigger than she could have ever imagined. But that is when the story gets much better.

First, the reader will find an amazing world full of myths and incredible creatures, so well done and so well created, that it's realistic, even though it's a supernatural book. I must say that I really enjoyed the way the author told the story where all the pieces fit perfectly, so there is no loose ends, and no inconsistencies.

Second, the author did a great job creating not only the story but also the characters, characters very well developed. I really liked Kira, she is a really intelligent girl, always willing to sacrifice herself for her best friend Lydia. Lydia is so nice and so sweet, I loved the strong Altaria, and what can I say about Octavion? Even though I didn't like him too much at the beginning, I ended liking him a lot.

So, what can I say? I really enjoyed this book, from the beginning to the end. I just couldn't put it down until I had read it completely. Now I can't wait to read the next book in the series, Broken.

So guys, if you haven't read Bound yet, and if you are fan of Young Adults books with good stories, full of action, romance and supernatural topics… I recommend you to read it. You won't regret it.

Happy Reading!

Though there was a lot of interesting elements to the story it just wasn't' clicking for me. First off the character's "voices" are too similar, I found myself backtracking to see who was talking. The relationship between Octavion and Kira is warped, first Kira is told to trust him, that he won't hurt her yet he loses his temper and knocks her around like a rag doll. Then it turns out he is dangerous, especially during that time of the month. And so many things happen and I don't know why, why do they escape to the home world and can't get back to rescue Kira? Why does the crystor stop working? Why the whole binding thing in the first place? Why the two souls in one body? And the were-cat thing...a little strange. The lion/lamb relationship and two souls thing are obviously borrowed from Stephanie Meyer. By the end though with the picking up of the action, I was more invested in the story and I am interested to know what happens next.

Definitely a "feeler" rating, that 4. But only because it knocked my socks off.

I was certainly not expecting to get sucked into this journey of Kira, Lydia and Octavion's when I picked Bound up at first. Maybe I knew I would love it, though, because all the way up until I got around to reading it, I'd bypass the cover and think, "Damn, I wish I could read this one right meow."

And then I did and my attachment issues even reached such a degree that I lay awake in bed (despite a looming 05 wakeup) reading until midnight, when I just couldn't stay awake any longer. Pwow.

I was totally blown away by how taken in by this book I was. As soon as I finished, I purchased the sequel despite it not being quite so cheap as its predecessor. I don't care, I wanna know what happens, damn it!

anywayz, i loved this book! although most would say this has a storyline quite similar to twilight -boy meets girl, will protect her in every way he can.. to death- but isn't all them books like that? nonetheless, the circumstances here are atleast unique for me to finish reading this in one sitting. vampires, werewolves, shapeshifters, etc had become a common entity that lived amongst humans in such fiction stories. what made Bound tickle my interest/curiosity is that the origin of the shapeshifters were from a different world! yes, they were aliens. that's quite something, ain't it? :)

i just love and hate the author at the same time; love her for writing well, but hate her for ending the book leaving you hanging. tsk! ;)

I am not one to use big words or give big reviews but I made an exception with this book. I found it to be intriguing, something I could not put down, and I read it via my laptop in one day. I was able to relate to the characters and so caught up in the story that they felt real to me and I did cry when Toran was killed. Christine took the characters to a level I was not prepared for and thrilled when I realized what a ride I had been on.

Christine shows a real promise as a new writer and I look forward to her new book continuing the story.

I want more! Octavion and Kira captured my heart from the beginning. Lydia was a nice friend with many secrets, and Alteria grew on me after a few appearances. The only problem I had with this book was the way Kira looked at everything. She always thought the complete opposite of what was really going on. I liked that she was stubborn though. It worked out in the end. I'm hoping to get my hands on the next book soon.

It took me til about 34% through the book to decide if I was going to like it. After that I was hooked. It's one of those stories where anything is possible because its not tied to some image of a fictional being like vampire or werewolf stories. I love the freedom it gives the author to make up just about anything. This book is an example of that unhindered creativity. Can't wait to see how the next one ends. I'm off to start book 2 now!

I really want to read it, when it comes out it will be the first thing i do . I heard from the reviews that it was really good,so ill take their word for it. Also, i have noticed her other books she is making. I am pretty sure she will be a really good and famous book writer. Good luck C.K Bryant!

I really enjoyed this book! It reminded me of a weird cross between The Twilight Series, The Host and The Tiger's Curse but with enough unique action and adventure to be its own great story. I started it and couldn't put it down. I can't wait to read the next in the series!
