Just weeks before graduating from high school, Grace is running for her life with her magical and mysterious boyfriend, Sebastian, by her side. An ancient magic has been awakened inside of Grace that is powerful, frightening and barely within her control. The Others, who possess their own dangerous magic, are hunting them, and their only hope is for Grace to learn how to harness her incredible powers to stop them. The answers they seek are hidden within a life lived thousands of years ago, shrouded in mystery, magic and deceit. When their past catches up to them, Grace and Sebastian are faced with a truth that shakes the foundation of their relationship, their lives and everything they thought they knew. It is up to Grace to learn to control the Lost Magic, to right the wrongs that have been done, and to discover once and for all, who she really is.
Amber Frost was my first novel and I have now added two more books (Silver Dew & Sapphire Sun) to The Lost Magic series. It is a Young-Adult paranormal romance series set in Victoria, BC. I have been reading a lot of YA books lately but I also read books in pretty much every genre and welcome recommendations!
When I'm not reading or writing, you'll find me spending time with my hubbie and our beautiful little monsters (we have two boys under the age of 4). I also work part-time for my local school district, supporting students who have special educational needs. I was born in Surrey, England but currently live in a small town on Vancouver Island on the west coast of Canada and get to enjoy living in one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I love to be outside (when it's warm enough!) and spend a lot of time exploring out local parks, lakes, rivers, and mountains.

Thanks for reading my books! I read all your comments and reviews and appreciate all your feedback :)
** If you have not read the first book in The Lost Magic Series, Amber Frost, the review below may contain spoilers. **
What if you had the power to make your deepest desires or tiniest whim come true? Would anything truly be real? Would relationships be genuine? Or would you constantly be wondering that if they had a conscious choice, would people help you, befriend you… love you? Desires can be dangerous things – fleeting, ever-changing and oftentimes not in a person’s best interest. Desires can have far-reaching consequences. Desires can be deadly.
Eighteen-year-old Gracelynn Stevenson is just weeks away from her high school graduation when she discovers the truth about herself, power she possesses… and the danger she now faces because of it. Together with Sebastian, her boyfriend and eternal soulmate, Gracelynn finds herself hunted by the Others, a group of immortal beings created by her beloved Sebastian so many centuries ago. Like Grace, they have also just discovered who she truly is, and fearful of the power Gracelynn and Sebastian would be able to wield together, the Others have sworn to destroy them both. Now fleeing for their very lives, Grace and Sebastian must find a way to stop their enemies. But their search for truth leads them down paths they never could have predicted, dredging up long buried lies, secrets and questions that threaten the very foundation of their relationship.
The journey Gracelynn’s character undergoes in Silver Dew is perhaps one of my favorite aspects of this novel. While she wasn’t a weak character in Amber Frost – not by a long shot – she was mostly in the dark for most of the novel, not sure what was really going on with Sebastian. The balance of power in that novel mostly resided with him as he held the answers and she relied on his knowledge of their unique situation. However in Silver Dew, Gracelynn begins to come into her own, becoming a powerful and strong character in her own right. Her progression throughout the novel is exciting to watch and so organic. As Gracelynn and Sebastian attempt to stay one step ahead of the Others, Sebastians tries to help Gracelynn recall her abilities — to help her focus and harness her magic. But frustratingly, it continues to allude her. However, the attempts to tap into her dormant power causes Gracelynn to remember certain things from her time as Caoilinn. As she witnesses Caoilinn’s thoughts, actions and motivations firsthand, she begins to wonder what kind of person she was… and who she really is. Her struggles with her identity are perhaps some of my favorite parts of the book. Is she Caoilinn? Is she Gracelynn? Is Caoilinn a part of her? Are Caoilinn’s mistakes her own? And also worrisome, can Sebastian differentiate between the two of them?
Sebastian… I love the way Davis presents Sebastian. She writes him in such a way that he feels like an old soul without making him stuffy, stodgy or annoyingly wise. He’s a person who’s lived and seen so much. He has lifetimes of experience and history to draw upon, yet circumstances being what they are, he believably comes across as a modern 21st century teenager while still an immortal being. The development of his character in this novel is also fantastic. As Gracelynn discovers more about herself and Caoilinn, Sebastian’s memories also are returning to him, weakening him and causing him to lose his grip on reality. I love his character, and so the difficulties that plague him throughout Silver Dew broke my heart, but that’s just a testament to what a great storyteller Davis is.
As intimated earlier in this review, the quest to stop the Others leads Gracelynn and Sebastian to shocking revelations of both their past lives, throwing their relationship into jeopardy and casting doubt on the genuineness of their connection. The problems they experience are more than the product of some over-emotional, teenage-angsty drama, but rather some real and weighty issues regarding trust and betrayal. As a result, Silver Dew takes both Gracelynn and Sebastian to the brink of emotional and mental devastation.
It is heartbreaking.
And it is brilliant.
As a reader, I’m more than willing to have my heart broken in the course of a story, if the author makes those choices to create something amazing. As with her first book, Amber Frost, Davis once again does an excellent job of connection emotionally with her readers. She made me truly care about her characters and had me emotionally invested in their relationships. I love books where the author is willing to take their characters to extremes, making me wonder “How could this possibly get any worse, and more than that, how can they possibly resolve this happily?” For an author to rip my heart out, tear it into a million pieces, and have me still wanting more? That’s a good book… and a good author. Silver Dew is one of those books for me. I literally could not put this novel down, because I had to know what was going to happen to Gracelynn and Sebastian.
Overall, Silver Dew is gripping, it’s fast-paced, it’s incredibly romantic, it twisted my heart all-around-and-upside-down, and when all was said and done, left me saying, “WOW!”
Honestly, I wish these books were what billions of teens (and adults) were reading instead of the Twilight series. It's much more worthy, given that it has a heroine who actually DOES stuff (rather than waiting to have stuff happen to her), and a hero who's sweet and charming, in a relationship that actually seems healthy. (And at the moments when it doesn't, the characters actually recognize the problem and try to fix it.)
In any case, I found this a highly satisfying sequel to Amber Frost! Sequels can often disappoint, but I think this one was actually more exciting and more tightly written than its predecessor--perhaps because this one's all about our heroes being chased across the world. Not only do we get some deeply cool geography visits (my favorite were the sites in Ireland and Greece), but the love story only becomes stronger and more dramatic. Past betrayals are uncovered that rise up and knock us all on our behinds, and make Sebastian and Grace stop trusting each other on more than one painful occasion. But it's okay! The ending was soothing and upbeat, making everything basically all right and feeling whole--but, I noticed, technically leaving room for another sequel if we beg Suzi hard enough. Go for it, Suzi!
This was an exciting adventure! This sequel was as good or better than Amber Frost. The character development and plot were exquisitely created. The grasp of reality mixed with magick was measured by a masters hand.
The ending was unexpected yet satisfying. I don't feel the need for another sequel, yet there were bits left behind, just in case. I deeply appreciated the true love that Gracelynn chose to use wishing for her fiancé's ultimate happiness over her own.
I highly recommend Amber Frost and Silver Dew to young womyn of any age everywhere.
Fantastic sequel! Wonderful continuation of their story. Gracelynn totally came into her own in this novel. Loved reading about her transformation and having a strong female character who totally takes care of business!
If readers didn't get enough of Grace Lynn and Sebastian in Amber Frost, worry not, because Silver Dew is here, and the story of these two continues. On the run from those that want to hurt them, this story is powerful and intense.
There was a time Grace Stevenson was a normal teenager. She went to school, had her friends, dated. Who would have though in just a span of a few months that she'd be deeply in love with a mysterious boy and now fleeing her home to be safe? Grace is learning to embrace the things that are deep within her. She faces situations that seem to make her stronger. There is a darkness that wants to overtake this young girl, it it will take strength and wits to beat it all.
Sebastian is still a mystery just like before, but readers slowly learn more about this character. It's time Sebastian faces his past, his memories, and the people that were in his life. His love for Grace is intense. He's just as strong as a hero as Grace is the heroine.
This sequel is so much more action packed than Amber Frost. For those that like to read series in order, I'd advise to read Amber Frost first, so you're clued into what's going on. There you'll find the story of the couple's beginning and how things came to be in this story. There are a few scenes that are mature content, this is by far not a light read. It has its dark moments, but nothing too over the top. Overall, I enjoyed it and was glad to know more about Grace and especially Sebastian.
If you enjoy paranormal young adult with plenty of action and intrigue, add Silver Dew to your reading lists. If you've read Amber Frost, this exciting installment has the potential to keep you up in to the late hours of the night, or keep you distracted from other duties during the day. This book is definitely an attention grabber...and keeper.
Ms. Davis starts off Silver Dew with a bang. I'd forgotten a few details from Amber Frost, but I was quickly caught up in Grace's story and everything came back. Their fear of the Others is palpable, and it shows that Ms. Davis' writing has only improved. The pacing is awesome and the descriptions are beautiful, it makes me want to see what they're seeing, and I can almost feel what they are experiencing, pleasant or no. But there are some steamy scenes, so that makes up for the fear and turmoil in a flash.
I loved the memory scenes with Caoilinn, giving detail into things that have only been hinted at. It was a great experience to see Grace learn about her, connect with her in a way-dislike her in others and how the memories change things.
There were many twists that I didn't know what to make of--Mags anyone? And the implications of her presence and the things that she says happened! But it plays into the story, and I was on the emotional rollercoaster with Grace trying to sort through it all.
The ending was surprising, but I really enjoyed it. It shows the strength of Grace, how much she's willing to sacrifice, and the strength of the love between Grace and Sebastian.
If you haven't read Amber Frost, I recommend you do that as soon as possible and then pick this one up.
Book Two of The Lost Magic series is full of adventure and information. Grace and Sebastian go on the run to escape The Others and find information on their shared past. Their trip takes them across the world where they encounter more of The Others - with good and bad intentions.
We learn a lot about Grace and Sebastion's past, but some of it is contradictory and confusing at first. I just have to say to stick with it. There is so much revealed in this story. There were times I was convinced Suzi Davis was trying to make my good guys bad, and my bad guys good. Be prepared for a lot of action, but much of it takes place on a more intellectual level as opposed to a physical level (but there are still a few good fights).
I'm on the fence about the ending (which I won't give away). I know something really big will have to happen in book three or things just won't make a lot of sense. This has been a great series so far with many unique and intriguing characters and ideas.
Grace is on the run- literally. As she tracks through the wilderness, she really has only one chance of survival, Sebastian. While running away from the others, Grace has to learn to control her powers, and find a way to save Sebastian- and she certainly does not have enough time. The responsibilities Grace suddenly has are eating her away, to reveal who she truly is. Not even she knew the power she can withstand.
My Thoughts: The book started out great, and while I felt like I didn’t know what was coming (if anything) there was a whole book ahead! Half-way through, I did take a break, and I had to come back. This isn’t a book you can read in one sitting. As soon as I had the time to sit back down and really get into the story, I finished it quickly- albeit it took some energy. If you liked the first one, you will like this one (and you won’t regret sticking with it). STICK WITH IT!
This is book is the continuation of Sebastian and Gracelynn's story.
best part of the book: WOW! Talk about twist and turns! I thought the first book was great, but I have to say this one is 100% better! The book picks up where book 1: Amber Frost left off at. Gracelynn and Sebastian are on their own, the Others are hunting them down and Gracelynn can't seem to control her magic within her. I really love how Suzi Davis writes because she really makes you feel for Gracelynn and all that is happening to her in this journey with Sebastian. Now, there are some new characters that are introduced in this book and I so want to tell you every single part BUT you need to read it for yourself.
not so great about the book: Well, this is not "bad" BUT I did not see the ending coming. What a cliffhanger?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Shocked is the best way to explain it. Actually, its the only way to explain it. I cannot wait for book 3!!!
Overall, my feelings towards Silver Dew were similar to Amber Frost: it had some good things going for it but some negatives too. In this second book, there was still some issue with unbelievable dialogue and I felt the pacing was also a little off, with some sections whizzing by and others dragging, but the storyline remained interesting and I liked the introduction of the new characters.
Getting to the end, I was interested to see that it finished in a fairly final way. Sure there are still some elements to take over into book three, but it felt like it could have finished there and I wonder if the third book wasn't planned at the time.
Anyway, I am now beginning the last book and am intrigued to see how the story will finally end for Grace and Sebastian.
I received this book as an e-book review copy from the publisher.
I feel back and forth with this book. I really wanted to enjoy it so it's hard to write this review. There were a lot of parts there were really great and held my interest, for example when we are introduce to Mags. But it took so long to build to that part of the book .I felt like they were running for ever especially in the woods part making the story drag for me. There were many sections like that in the book instances that were good and instances that just dragged for me. I guess that is why I felt back and forth. I still really enjoy the interactions with Grace and Sebastian and enjoy them as characters. I still plan to read the next and final book of the series because I am curious to see what happens next.
Great series! The writer kept me interested until the end, although I'm curious to read what the third book is about. I thought book 2 had a perfect ending for the series.
