As a Junior Press Officer for the British government, Jake is sent to cover a "non-story"—a demonstration against the construction of a laboratory on the supposed site of an ancient fairy ring. But what Jake sees there is shocking and terrifying and leads him to investigate a clandestine organization—the Order of Malichea. And then sinister things start happening: Jake is "accidentally" pushed, almost falling under a tube train; Lauren, Jake’s girlfriend, has all her notes on the Order stolen; and then Jake returns home to find a dead body in his flat and is accused of murder. Who is trying to scare Jake? Is it the British government? Or other, more sinister agencies? Either way, Jake and Lauren must fight for their lives . . .

The 1st in a new series – this was a rollicking race for the truth.
Jake is a trainee press officer for a government department. When he’s sent to cover a protest about a developer digging up a fairy ring, he wishes he was covering something more important. But then he sees something his bosses want him to forget. Something governments, churches and even past kings have wanted to hide. But he can’t forget. He won’t. He contacts a scientist friend for some answers and gets way more than he bargained for. Suddenly he’s breaking into a lab, being chased and implicated in murder.
This story reminded me of a junior Da Vinci Code. Discovering something that could change the world – for good or when in the wrong hands, with dire consequences.
Can be read on its own or as part of the new series.
Published in England and distributed here, Mr. Eldridge's Invisible Assassin is what I would call pulp fiction, fast and furious with lots of action. Youthful Jake is 18 and an orphan who is given a rare chance to be a journalist by winning his position in a writing competition. He wants desperately to succeed and gain a career in writing but is frustrated by limited opportunities at work. Now he finds himself on a routine assignment that goes 'sideways' when he witnesses the discovery of a rare and ancient text. This kicks off a confusing (Jake is confused, and so are we), death defying race and scrabble to gain control of the text and the world changing information within. Interesting themes of the relationship between the control of information and power.
The invisible assassin is one of the most intense, action packed and terrifying book I have ever read. Its about a young guy named Jake. It all started going crazy at a construction site when a builder suddenly had green fungus attached to him and started to cover the builders chest then speeding rapidly all over his body until he was just a big green human sack of fungus. What happened? Why did it happen? Thats what I asked myself when I read this book. Then one day in the book Jake returns to his house and find a dead body there and is accused of murder. Who is out to get Jake and why is it out to get him? That's why I find this book so interesting with its danger and murder, cant wait to finish it.
Not bad. Turned out better than I was expecting! Nice, quick easy read. Writing style flowed well and the story was okay. Good but not spectacular! 3 stars.
