I grew up without a TV, let alone DVD’s, computer games etc that my kids spend so much time engrossed in, but I learned to read at an early age and from then on I was always entertained – so much so that my friends used to hide their books when I visited them because all I wanted to do was read!
When I was a teenager I discovered Mills & Boon romances in my local library, and so began a lifelong love affair. I still remember that feeling of anticipation when I settled down with a pile of books - all bearing the famous rose logo - knowing that I would be drawn into a world of love, passion and emotional intensity that I have never found in any other books. I enjoy reading a wide range of books, especially historical novels, and I am a big fan of Agatha Christie, mainly I think because her characters seem so real, but I love romances and unashamedly admit that I only want to read books with a guaranteed happy ending. Reading is my joy and pleasure and I don’t want to cry buckets at the end of a book or have my sleep disturbed by its gruesome content.
For me, the characters in Harlequin Mills & Boon romances are the key. I love reading and writing about strong, alpha heroes and feisty, independent heroines who find that they can’t fight the blazing attraction between them.
When I married my own tall, dark, but sadly not wealthy hero, we moved out of London to the Kent coast and started a family that grew and grew. I adore my six children, and when they were small I loved being a stay-at-home mum, but there can be days, as I’m sure many of you know, when you feel isolated and – dare I say it – bored of conversing with three-year-olds. Harlequin Mills & Boon romances were my life-line and my sanity and I read them whenever I had a spare five minutes (in the bath, pacing the floor at three am with colicky baby on one shoulder and a book in the other hand!)
My imagination soared and I decided to try and write a book myself. My first attempt was typed up on a manual type-writer with the full-stop key and the letter p missing. Luckily my hero and heroine were not called Paul and Poppy, but it still meant going over my manuscript with a pen to fill in the gaps!
That first book was duly rejected as were my next two. I suppose I was disheartened and by now I had four small children and very little spare time, so although I continued to read romances, I gave up writing. It wasn’t until my youngest son started school that I tried writing again. I was struggling to come to terms with the death of my darling mum Gabrielle and writing became my therapy. Mum had always nagged me to get on and write a book and had an unshakeable belief that I would one day be published – I’m so glad that she was proved right and my biggest regret is that she isn’t here to share my success with me.
I wrote two more books which were both rejected by HM&B, but I was given some advice on my writing from the editorial team that encouraged me to try again. Third time lucky certainly applied to me – the day I received ‘the call’ was exactly four years after Mum had died. It was one of the most exciting moments of my life - but instead of chatting to the editor about contracts I had to dash off and pick my sick daughter up from school. Reality is never far away in my house!
I have now had nine books published - At the Sheikh's Bidding was released in September 08. My next book, Argentinian Playboy, Unexpected Love-Child will be out in the UK in July 09, and The Greek Billionaire's Innocent Princess in the UK in August 09. I have just had my twelfth book accepted and am already busy on my thirteenth. Now that my children are growing up I am able to write every day between 9 am and 3 pm, but often I become so involved with my characters that I sneak off to write again in the evening!
I feel I must be one of the luckiest people in the world to be doing something that I love, but I work hard at my luck and I believe that w
Aww. Sweet office romance. Hero is the big boss and, at first, kind of a womanizing jerk. Heroine (who is not a virgin and was engaged once) is immediately attracted to him, but fights it as she becomes his efficient PA.
3 months into working for him, the heroine is in a minor car accident after swerving to avoid a dog in the road. She brings the muddy dog to the hero's country home where he is hosting a dinner party for clients. His latest mistress is there, much to his displeasure. The caterers have canceled, so the heroine has to do double duty and serve in a too-tight skirt and high heels borrowed from one of the village teenagers who are pitching in. By the end of the evening the hero has broken it off with his mistress and is now resigned to the (now washed) dog.
The hero temper isn't much better the next day when the heroine goes with the clients' wives to a spa day and he witnesses one of husbands chatting up the heroine in her swimsuit. Heroine catches a chill and ends up ill with a virus the next morning. Hero takes her home and -
Sponge alert! Takes he care of her for four days, canceling all of his meetings.
And this is where the hero takes a hard right turn on to besotted lane.
I really liked this hero - he was an alpha with hidden depths. I liked that he was a womanizer - not because of a terrible childhood - but because he hadn't met the right woman. When he met the heroine, he tried to keep things business-like but kept finding himself worrying about her. Heroine was pretty great as well. This is an HEA to believe in.
The most popular area for cruising in Greece is in the Aegean Sea, which has over 1,400 islands.
★★★★½ This one got better and better as the story unfolded. Of course, what is not to like about leaving London to cruise the Mediterranean, stopping at Valencia, Barcelona, Marseille, Nice and eventually arriving at in Greece? Not much.
This was a slow build, between Greek tycoon Nik Niarchou and his personal assistant Kezia Trevellyn; therefore, totally believable. Kezia thinking Nik was out of her league was realistic; so was her hesitancy for not wanting to hope too much; and all the reasons he fell for her were also valid.
I was thinking last night that it ended abruptly, but on reconsideration, I realized I just wanted to know even more about this couple. Plus, there is a really nice epilogue that didn't go for the unrealistic, either. ♥ epilogues like that. And there’s a dog in the story. ☺
I am giving this a 5 star read simply on the basis of one incredible hero. A hero that is hunky, sexy, smart, funny, kind and compassionate. (sigh) I absolutely loved how the author wove these two wonderful characters together without all that horrible tension that is traditional in HP's.
I think some people will not find this book stimulating enough, but for me it was a wonderful way to spend a few hours watching two people fall in love! I really enjoy Chantelle Shaw's books. There is a level of sophistication to her love stories that makes me anxious to read more of her work.
Okay, Nik our typical 6' 5" Greek hero, has his eye on Kezia, his voluptuous PA. He starts out as an out and out snake in the grass seducer. Initially he comes across as quite a despicable womanizer.
Time spent with Kezia humanizes and turns him into a hero that, yes, I would exchange for my husband. He is in SO over his head.
Where do the problems stem from? Our heroine has a secret that prevents her from committing. More a 3.5.

Absolute comfort read for me. I can read this one a million times! What an indulgent lover Nik was. Kezia was a sweetheart. I’m all jelly right now.

This was an easy 5 star read for me! I’m a sucker for office romance and this time HP didn’t let me down. The romance didn’t die down as the book progressed, in fact it kept picking up. I pretty much read it in a day, if not in a sitting!
Nik was a sexy, rude, incorrigible alpha who’d charm his way into your panties. He’d say the most ballsy things to Kezia to put her out of her comfort zone and then enjoy it. I loved their waspish banter and absolutely adored Kezia. She’d been put out once from a sad ending to her engagement and she never let her guard down ever since. Despite that she was falling for Nik, who totally refused to back down, she held her integrity and didn’t turn needy.
Nik was tender and loving and extremely attuned to Kezia. He constantly watched out for her and also watched her. The ending was amazing! Nik was from a loving family so there was no drone angsty talk. He straight up confessed that he loved her! No beating around the bushes! The epilogue also had me by surprise. It was a beautiful ending for this beautiful couple! I will re-read soon!
This one was just okay for me. I thought the emphasis on how much the heroine was attracted to the hero was overdone. It was mentioned in every scene how hot he was and how she was trembling with arousal. She didn't seem very adult. I just wasn't drawn to the characters somehow. It felt very much same old same old.
This was okay but Kezia, the heroine, ultimately ruined it for me. She behaved like a silly adolescent rather than a mature, professional woman. Her continual ‘woe is me’ attitude quickly palled. I couldn’t understand why she dithered for so long about telling Nik about her illness and subsequent infertility. They are having a steamy affair and yet she keeps it all secret even when he gives her ample opportunity to do so when he asks why her engagement was broken off. He thinks she’’s still in love with Charlie and all she had to do is tell him the truth. It simply made no sense.
I wish Nik hadn’t had the current mistress on show at the beginning. All of his later pronouncements about falling in love from the beginning sounded pretty empty when we learned how many mistresses he’d had. It didn’t match up with what we learned about Nic through the story. I really liked him. Quite why he was prepared to fight for her was less clear.
Another thing which totally threw me was the use of ‘pedhaki mou’ as an endearment. ‘My little child’ is neither sexy or romantic. ‘Agape mou’ would have been much better.
Otherwise an enjoyable read.

This was a tenderly sweet romance. Here is just a little sample of how Kezia, met Nik Niarcchou. Sample from chapter one - His hand closed around hers and instantly engulfed it. She had expected the contact to be brief, and impersonal, but incredibly he lifted her hand to his mouth and pressed his lips against her fingers. It was electrifying: with a gasp she tore her fingers free from his grasp.
What was special about this book, is the way Nik courted Kezia. He wanted her from the first time he laid eyes on her, but his seduction was slow and sweet. The two did not fall into bed the first day, or week. A friendship and trust was built up as the passion simmered between the two. Kezia was his personal assistant. She loved her job, and didn't want to endanger her job, by having an office affair. Nik was a playboy, and was not interested in anything long term. You will just have to read to see how it played out. This is a book I'm sure I will read again one day. It is going on my favorite's list. I found it to be a beautiful love story!
It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't all that great either. And the H, while he's lured the h away as his PA to live near his mansion, has had two mistresses in keeping while she's pining away (sort of). On top of which he reduces her to tears a couple of times with his verbal bashing (I skimmed, so there could be more instances), and then, though he is immune to women's tears, because she is genuinely hurt/upset, his heart melts, each time. bleh.
"From the day I first met you, valiantly trying to make excuses for your alcoholic boss, I was hooked." yeah, which is why I consoled myself with those other women and made you buy gifts for them. Not my favorite type of hero :(. On the other hand, he wasn't a complete jackass (he wasn't doing it to provoke her)... so 2 stars, maybe 3.
Oh, and the heroine doesn't miraculously end up pregnant in the epilogue (she can't have children- that's one of the driving issues). They adopt a boy. I liked the ending. So, definitely 3 stars.
I really enjoyed this book, it was one of those that I could have kept reading without putting it down. I loved the relationship between Kezia and Nik. I liked the banter they had between them. I liked how they first met and how there relationship develops as the story goes on. There was difficulties that they had overcome in the end to be together, that really defined there relationship. I really enjoyed how in this Harlequin that they didn't have the Hero and Heroine against falling in love like a lot of the other ones I have read. All in all it was a enjoyable read, and one I will probably read again in the future.
Kezia Trevellyn is in love with her boss, Nik Niarchou. When they enter a passionate affair Kezia's dreams have become reality as Nik wines, dines, and seduces her as they sail along the Mediterranean. However, Kezia has a secret reason why this can't last forever, a secret she forgot until Nik proposes.
Overall, I liked this story. Kezia and Nik acted their age and we well written, both of which I have been missing in recent books I've been reading. I also liked that despite the relationship, they still focused on their work without letting lust take over, another feature that I enjoyed that I had been missing in other books I've read.
That being said, I do have a few issues with this book, which is why I haven't rated it any higher than 3 stars.
Kezia is a good character, with the exception of her being scared to tell Nik her deep, dark secret. There is a lot of misunderstanding that could have been cleared up earlier in the story had she just told Nik. A lot of the pain she feels in the relationship with Nik is based on how she thinks he is going to react when he finds out her secret. She has been working with this man for quite some time and yet she still doesn't trust him to know this secret when they enter into this passionate affair. If she has been with him long enough to be able to gauge his moods and know his reactions regarding other aspects, why wouldn't you tell him about your secret, especially since you think that that secret would keep him from wanting a long term relationship anyway? While I feel that she should have let him know at some point, even after starting the affair, I can understand some of the reasoning why she hasn't.
Nik is another good character. However, there are moments when I don't feel his attraction to Kezia. At the very beginning of the book they have intense sexual tension and you can feel like this could lead to a passionate affair later on, but then we go to 3 months later and it seems as though Kezia is the only one who is still interested in Nik and is putting it aside because she believes he isn't interested and thinks it just a fluke. I am glad that he does put his work first over his latest conquest. It is refreshing in a world where more men seem to forget they have work when the woman they are interested in enters the room. I enjoyed it.
Near the end of the book, between chapters 9 and 10, I felt like there should have been more. At the end of chapter 9 Kezia runs off crying and then at the beginning of chapter 10 it is the next day and she is convinced that she and Nik can never be together despite her feelings for him. Did Nik not see the need to try and comfort her, or anyone else for that matter? I felt like I was missing part of the story because I was sure that Nik would go to talk with her about what was going on and her secret would come out then and it didn't happen. While I like the freshness of it, I also feel like it is unrealistic to think that Nik or any of his family wouldn't have checked on her to make sure she was okay.
Overall, I liked the book and would read it again, but I feel like it could have been longer and there were some minor flaws in my opinion.
