Being back in Blue Ridge, Arizona, to help her grandmother was almost a relief after her busy job as a nurse in a Tucson E.R. Aubrey Stuart badly needed a few weeks of peace and quiet --- but facing her past was another thing entirely. The boy she'd eloped with and hastily divorced ten years ago had matured. And Gage Raintree the man was a thousand times more tempting than he'd been then.
... EXCEPT HER EX
They'd been too young and unsure of each other to fight back when their families decided they'd made a terrible mistake --- especially when Gage thought his duty was to devote his life to the family ranch. But now he had six weeks before Aubrey went back to her career.
Six weeks to show his first --- and only --- love he deserved a second chance ...
New York Times bestselling author Cathy McDavid has written over 55 titles, many for Harlequin. She spends her days penning stories about handsome cowboys riding the range, busting broncs, and sweeping gals off their feet — oops, no. Make that winning the hearts of feisty, independent women who give them a run for their money.
Second chances are my favorites, since everyone deserves one. Aubrey and Gage grew up as friends, became lovers and after Aubrey was overwhelmed by college and the major that her father, a doctor, coerced her into, she fled to Gage and they had a quickie wedding in Las Vegas. But a month into their marriage, her father talked her into going back to school to studying nursing and as Gage's life was on the family ranch, she left him with divorce papers. Ten years later, Aubrey loves her job as a ER nurse, but she started having panic attacks, and when her grandmother needs her, she returns to Blue Ridge, Arizona, not expecting to see her ex. They have both matured and are still in love with the other. He is now a firefighter, and is not going to give her up without a fight. Engaging characters and an engrossing plot, with action packed fire fighting make this an excellent read.
Aubrey works in a Tucson Emergency Room as a nurse and is in desperate need of a break. She was on duty when her Aunt & Uncle were brought in after being in an accident. Both her Aunt & Uncle died, and Aubrey froze when she realized who it was in the E.R. Now she questions if she will be able to help those in need or continue to freeze. When her Grandmother falls and breaks her hip she decided to take 6 weeks leave and go back to Blue Ridge, Arizona to take care of her. The one thing she is hoping is she won't run into Gage Raintree, her ex-husband but the chances of that not happening are slim to none.
Aubrey & Gage met when she was only 4 years old visiting her grandparents one summer. And as each summer passed their friendship turned to love. When Aubrey went to college and failed her first year she ran to Blue Ridge and right into Gage's arms. They made love and ran off to Vegas for a quick marriage, which only lasted 6 weeks. Her father came and talked her into returning to Tucson, and studying to become a nurse instead of a Doctor like himself.
Now that Aubrey is back in town, Gage wants to pick up where their marriage ended. But Aubrey tells him she is only there for 6 weeks and will return. But as brush fires start burning throughout Arizona and surrounding states. And Gage is called away, Gage is starting to take over Aubrey's every though.
Will she leave when her six weeks are up? Or will a love that never really died be revived?
This book was sold as a second book in a 2 book bundle. I decided to rate them separately and for good reason. This was the much better book.
Aubrey and Gage were married and divorced when they were barely out of high school. Now Aubrey is back in town to care for her ailing grandmother. Gage is now a wild land firefighter and Aubrey an ER nurse. Once they meet again, sparks fly between them. An enjoyable romance.
I loved this book. It was a very good storyline I loved the Wilderness Firefighter thing. It was sweet to see these two characters rekindle their love for each other. I would recommend this book for anybody who likes a good strong romance story.
This was my first Cathy McDavid book. I am now in search of all I can find! I loved her characters, her story telling and the care she took to honor firefighters.
