Seventeen years after a nuclear war, survival of the fittest is the only law in the land. It took everything just to stay alive, except in the town of Desolation, which was nestled in the mountains of Montana, cut off from the rest of the world. Desolation still had a working hydro-electric dam, giving the townspeople a semblance of civilization. In time, the world finds them, and they have to fight to exist, fighting against the absolute worst of the world who are intent on completely destroying them. While underground in Bunker ML-324 (Aux.), systems are breaking down, and hydroponics is delivering less and less food. Massive radiation levels prevent trips topside, and the people cramped in the bunker are starting to break down as well. A desperate attempt to take the elevator to the surface pits the remainder in a civil war.
This book was actually written by the bookkeeper in my office and is the first in a trilogy. Its actually a sort of unique book in that it starts as a post-apocolyptic genre story but then proceeds to span several different genre of books from thriller to mystery to action to western all with a post-apocolyptic spin. But alas that which makes the book unique is also its partial downfall. The book is all over the place and tends to pull you far out of the main story line. Because of this I found myself really struggling to care about any of the characters, and there are alot of characters, which was also a detraction from the story. But overall its an easy, entertaining read with a good story that I want to continue to follow. The triology is available on Amazon if you want to check it out.
