Ever moving, ever changing, stars and planets come and go.Those who watch their movements say, "As is above, so is below."Astrology -- the study of the stars -- is said to reveal the truths of the universe. Cooper, Kate, and Annie find this to be alarmingly true, and their progress on the Wiccan path is nearly undone by what the stars tell them.
In this installment of Circle of Three, the class is learning about astrology, and Annie especially is perturbed by the implication that her personality and life are influenced by the cosmos. Cooper, meanwhile, is worried about her mother's reaction to the divorce, and her new friend Jane seems to be having some family and relationship problems of her own. Finally, Kate turns sixteen, and struggles with her residual anger at Tyler and Annie for their indiscretions.
This one was one of the weakest of the series so far. Annie performed two rituals that felt random; it became clear by the end of the novel why they felt so out of place. This one felt almost overwhelmingly like a typical YA book: the obligatory teen coming out of the closet, struggling with parents' divorce, boyfriend drama... I realized that this installment didn't really have a whole lot of Wicca. Even the astrology theme seemed pretty weaksauce.
I like the girls, but let's be honest, if I wanted to read about teen relationship drama alone, I would... well, I would never want to. I came for the Wiccca.
There was some good character development here, but the series seems to be drifting from its roots; the girls get together occasionally, and while I like the idea of them walking their own paths, they barely feel like friends sometimes. I just don't get the sense that they're any closer to each other than to the random strays they pick up (Sascha, Jane). This one was definitely a far cry from the ritual on the beach performed in the first one.
I found this book in my local library I highly recommend this book its really mystery wise, but I enjoyed it The lesson learned in this book was to always believe on your dream. This book is placed on astronauts finding stars in the sky, and the little poem it's really believable Ever moving, ever changing, stars and planets come and go, those who watch their movements say, "As is above so is below."
I liked the story overall but there wasn't really an ark, especially none that lived up to the grand title of "written in the stars". However, I loved seeing Kate finally explore her anger, Cooper taking active steps in her difficult relationship with her mother, and Annie taking heart as well.
After a long hiatus of about six months I decided to finish this book. I think it took me so long because there is just too much random stuff happening in this one, albeit important stuff. I wish there was more astrology, the theme of this book, but hey, it led to something great!
There's quite a bit that happens in this book. It opens with the girls making New Year's resolutions.
A girl named Jane reveals to Cooper that she is a lesbian. Cooper tells the other girls, and that causes problems. Jane later tries suicide, and tells Cooper that her father hates gays.
They also talk about how Hitler had gays killed along with the Jews.
Cooper has to talk to her father about her mother's drinking since the divorce. Her drinking seems to be getting a lot worse.
Tyler wants to start over with Kate.
Annie finds out that she actually has an older sister; her mother had become pregnant when she was rather young and she put the child up for adoption.
The only thing that is really strange about the book is the back cover. The blurb makes it appear that astrology is a major factor in the book, saying “...their progress on the Wiccan path is nearly undone by what the stars tell them.”
Actually, that's a gross overstatement. Although astrology is discussed somewhat in the book, it is definitely not at all a major component of the story. First time I've seen a blurb get the story so wrong.
Cooper's mom is having problems with the divorce, Kate is having trouble with her brother Kyle who thinks that her involvement in Wicca is a joke Annie and Kate are still coming to terms with what happened between Annie and Tyler, Kate turns 16, Annie has a reading and is told she has 2 siblings when Annie asks her aunt she admits she has an older sister, Will Kate and Annie become best friends again how will Coopers mom cope will Kate make up with her brother and will Annie find her sister. Another excellent read.
