My first animal board book

This board book is educational for parents as well as babies and toddlers who are building their vocabularies. In case it's been a while since you were asked to identify monkeys or sea creatures, this book contains many common and obscure animals, all boldly illustrated in clear, colorful photographs. With repeated reading, your toddler will be able to point, when asked, to pelicans and clown triggerfish, in addition to common farm animals.

In spite of the advanced selection of animals, the book is not crowded with age-inappopriate facts about each one. It is simply a word book, but one that the unusual collection of names makes more interesting. Actually, the animals are divided into categories, such as those who are babies, stripy or noisy. While babies might not grasp these concepts, toddlers will begin to understand them, and will continue to enjoy looking through this book into their school years.

Emilie Coulter's editorial review on Amazon describes the excitement of expanding the range of vocabulary for young children, and praises the clear pictures. Both descriptive and evaluative, this review would sell me this book if I hadn't already seen it! Marilyn Courtot of the Children's Literature Database extols its organization by dominant characteristics, and the attractive presentation. This is a concise, helpful review because it describes the book and explains its usefulness.

Every page or two page spread has a number of photographs of animals, in various categories - giant ones, colorful ones, farm animals, that sort of thing.

Each animal is identified by one word.

Just right for this age group, especially any baby or toddler who is really into animals. I recommend this book, and, really, the whole series.

I really like this series of books, particularly because it goes beyond the obvious. This one has all types of animals, including a rather gross bug page.We received almost all of the ones we have at this point from my aunt.
