Elected to one of the most powerful positions in the county, Rusty Joplin is back in his hometown of Salvation, Texas, only to come face to face with the woman who once cost him everything, her powerful and wealthy famiily, and a cold-blooded killer. Original.

Anna is a fifth generation Texan. She was born and grew up in West Texas, where most of her family members were farmers and ranchers or worked in the oil fields. She left Texas for many years and lived in four of the western states, a rich experience she'll never forget.
She loves most things western, from the customs and culture to the philosophy of life. She enjoys many hobbies, i.e., reading, painting and drawing, crafting, needlework and beading.
These days, she's back home in Texas. She and her husband currently live in Granbury, Texas, a small town not far from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
A romance and some sexual content, but mostly a mystery, and small politics. Pretty much knew who the killer was, but not the motive. A few loose ends but the type that may never come to anything. Loved it, and would recommend.
New author for me. I did enjoy the mystery in this story. The characters were mostly believable or real. Did fall a little into the prejudice of big-money-power-handling. There were a few to many drunk people in this story for my liking; it was like the author could not come up with an original way for the characters to deal with stress; so lots of alcohol and sex.
352p When a deputy 19s job opened up in the Sanderson County sheriff 19s office, career cop Rusty Joplin returned to his Texas hometown of Salvation. The last thing he expected to encounter in his new job was a nest of deceit and fraud controlled by wealthy rancher/oilman, Randall Ryder. The multi-millionaire 19s influence peddling was no surprise to Rusty. He had already had a taste of his deviousness fifteen years back when he had been forced out of town over his heated relationship with Ryder 19s youngest daughter, Elena. The beautiful Elena Ryder still haunts Rusty. He might never know what to do about her presence in his dreams, but he knew how to deal with the corruption in the sheriff 19s office. He ran for the office himself, won by a landslide and began to change the way the Sanderson County sheriff 19s office operated. Mere months after he takes office, Elena 19s sister, Ryder 19s middle daughter, is found dead in her arena, strangled in what looks like a runaway horse accident. But Rusty 19s years of experience with both horses and murder investigations, lead him to believe something more sinister. His relentless probe into Carla Ryder 19s death not only reveals Salvation 19s secrets, but throws him back into Elena 19s arms. Elena Ryder has longed for fifteen years for Rusty 19s return. She has refused to marry any of the men her father chose to be her husband. She has never stopped believing that she and Rusty Joplin are destined to spend their lives together. ... Her sister 19s tragic end brings her into contact with Rusty again and only reminds her how much she still loves him. But when Rusty uncovers the culprit, will the truth break them apart forever?
Well, with great money comes snots and heavy handed bossy jerks... okay, so this isn't true for many folks that have money but in this family, holy wow! They take the cake in devious, under-handed, and superficial. Infidelity is par for the course, strict and controlling father in denial about who is really who and what is really what, and petty arguments can carry consequences much more far reaching than folks want to deal with. When Rusty finally comes home and wins the election to be sheriff, he finds himself both back on speaking terms (and more) with a girlfriend from his distant past while investigating the death of her sister. Elena is the soft spoken, kind-hearted daughter of an oil mogul and the youngest of 3 girls. Her surviving sister is a lush and her deceased sister was big in the rodeo scene, and in getting around. Custody of Carla's children is up in the air, her murder becoming more muddled and boggling by the minute... or was it so simple all along? Yep, it was. *sigh* fools.
Story was cute, moved along, but there was a lot of devious and very petty attitudes that carried forward from their high school years. I still don't quite grasp what it is, exactly, that Elena's father despises Rusty's family so much for. I think I should read more and maybe all will be revealed. :)
This was a pretty good book. It was mainly lots of fluff but with a little murder mystery in it. I really enjoyed reading it, even if I had the murder figured out before I was even halfway through the book. The characters made it really worthwhile. I loved Rusty and Elena. It's a story about a small town where everybody knows everything about everyone and if they don't, they make something up. I completely relate to that because I've lived in one of those towns.
I have read this book before, and liked it. But, as I stated above it needed editing. I thought this was true, the first time I read it too. There was a lot of run on sentences in the beginning of the book, like a grade school or middle school person wrote it. The run on sentences got less as the book went, but was still there in the book. If the editing was done, then the book would have gotten a better rating.
There are some very dedicated law enforcement officers out there in your midst. This book talks about one, and the voters elected him Sheriff. Small communities have founding fathers, and Starvation Texas is no exception. A great tale and an enjoyable read..
Basic average chick read with a little bit of murder mystery. It was worth the time to read it, but probably wouldn't read again and wouldn't be top on my list to recommend to others.
