Lest We Forget

Rate this book
Lest We Forget is the story of one family's survival against all odds from an oppressive regime determined to kill them all. It is the story of the bravery of members of the Dutch resistance movement who worked tirelessly and selflessly to save as many lives as they could. It is the story of little Mandy who, as a Jewish child in the Netherlands during World War II, managed to stay one step ahead of her Nazi tormentors. Her family was torn apart for several years but, miraculously, survived intact. Records seem to indicate that theirs was the only complete family unit to accomplish this.

This is an excellent book. We get so caught up in our own troubles and worries, which are important to us but we forget the atrocities that have been a part of history and something we have never dealt with. Mandy tells a story through a little girls eyes of love, loss and endurance. And how it changes us forever. Read this book, share it with someone younger who has no idea what real suffering is. It will open your eyes!

Incredible story of a young Jewish Dutch girl and her family who miraculously survived the Holocaust and are the only documented Dutch family to have all survived and come back together. Ms Evans has written a story that will keep your attention to the very end. I felt as though I was there with her. She was such a strong child and I know that I could never have had the courage she did staring down the barrel of a nazi's rifle. Every few chapters I found myself looking at the photo of her and her siblings (as young children) on the cover and wished I could just pick her up and hug her. This is a must read, I only wish it was better publicized so that more people could read and learn from this beautiful story.

An unusual survival of an entire Jewish family only two of which spend time briefly in a death camp. This story unfolds around the fringe of the usual accounts you read about the Natzis, the camps and the horrible human atrocities. Highly readable and the author does a very good job of tying together the threads of her family's lives as their individual stories diverge and merge throughout their experience.
