A fascinating and readable book about the great houses of London from roughly the 1500s to the 1930s, with the majority of the book covering the peak of the great London house, the 18th century. Full of memorable characters, quotable anecdotes, and a wealth of photographs and art. Sykes is always an enjoyable narrator, and this book is highly recommended.
