This book is a collection of three stories, which all share a very detailed account of fishing practices in three different parts of the country. Besides the common thread of these fishing descriptions, the three stories are very different in terms of the tales they tell.
I picked up the book at my local library book sale because one of the stories was about the Hudson River and it had this great watercolor on the jacket.
All of the stories are written wonderfully, unbiased. They have this sense of a man being witness to these communities, recording what he sees and not making any judgements or pretentions. The stories are all informative and intriguing on their own and make for a great three part collection.
It's three stories in one book revolving around the water. The one that I was interested the most was the last one with the Tlingit people of Angoon. It had some interesting stories behind it, but I was quiet bored by it.
