«Hoje acordei bem disposto. Levei apenas meia-hora a levantar-me. Tomei o pequeno-almoço na rua e dirigi-me ao local de trabalho. Enfrentei provas bastante difíceis. Rebentar balões. Um número interminável de balões. Viajei bastante, um pouco por todos os continentes, tendo por arma apenas uma lança ou, em caso alternativo, uma pistola de dardos com a qual eliminava, um a um, os balões. Poc!
Não podia deixar que me tocassem - eram balões tóxicos, ou venenosos, ou coisas do género. Cada vez que me tocavam, eu morria, e só tinha três vidas, por isso não podia deixar que me tocassem. O país mais difícil foi talvez a Dinamarca, por causa da neve que caía ao mesmo tempo que os balões, confundindo-se com eles. Era uma excitação de gelar o sangue: nunca sabia se o que estava a tocar-me era um balão letal ou apenas um inofensivo floco de neve.»

Rui Barreira Zink is a professor at New University of Lisbon, where he graduated in Portuguese Studies and obtained the PhD in Portuguese Literature. Reader of Portuguese at the University of Michigan (1989/90).

Author of several books, among trials and fiction, the novel stresses Hotel Lusitano (1987), Apocalypse Nau (2000), The Substitute (1999) and The Surfers (2001), and the books of account the reality now Color (1988) and Spider-Man (1994), "The Anibaleitor" (2006). Cooperating with the press and made literary translation.

Rui Zink received the Award of P.E.N. Portuguese Club, the novel Davida Divine (2005), has represented the country in events like the Biennial of São Paulo, the Book Fair in Tokyo or the Edimburgh Book Festival.
