Had a difficult time connecting with this book. Found it choppy and lacking a nice, readable style. Perhaps that is due to the translation. At any rate, there are better texts on Kolbe, like "A Man for Others" by Treece.

If you want a book to show you St Maximillian Kolbe before Auschwitz, this is the one. He was a man of deep love for God, our Holy Mother, and his fellow man. And this book illustrates how this was found in his love of the Eucharist. It has helped me grow in my love of the Eucharist.
