I didn't know what to expect when I started this book since I had never heard of the Nan Sherwood series. I thought it might be about a girl staying at a relatives ranch on the American side of the Mexican border since most series from this time have a book set on a ranch by Mexico.

In this however Nans second cousin, who is a wealth older man, invites Nan and her friends on a trip with him, his daughter, and his daughters boyfriend. Most the book is them traveling through Mexico to their destination; a large house her cousin had gotten from a law suit.

There's a small plot about people illegally sneaking into America that bookends the story but the rest is just chapter long stories about where they go. Such as a bullfight and the floating gardens.
