Recently I have had the urge to go back and read some of the escapist books I read back in the 1970s. Somehow this series escaped my oh so action conscious notice back then.

While I enjoyed it (it's a quick read as all this genre tends to be) I wasn't as drawn in or as involved as I like to be. As noted these are books one picks up to escape into a different world where bad guys are obviously bad, good guys are filled with righteous anger and they take direct action against the aforementioned bad guys.

Now this book does fall into that category. Our hero John Yard is a professional hunter in Africa and has a successful business/ he owns a travel agency, a guide and safari company and apparently other successful business interests... Whatever he has plenty of cash. There is some about the rifle cartridges he uses but not really that much.

The plot revolves around the head of a pharmaceutical company who is knowingly marketing a drug that causes fatal (horrendously fatal at that) birth defects. Yard decides that since the law nowhere can touch the man he needs to remove him from the world...with extreme prejudice.

There are scenes where Yard walks into offices, clubs etc. in New York City and punches people out. The book get's in it's action but some of it runs a bit over the edge as doing what he is he'd want to keep a much lower profile.

In the end I liked the book pretty well and think I'll run down the next and try it as the idea behind the book is interesting. If you like this type book maybe give it a shot...

Get it, give it a shot?
