I can guarantee you, you have never read a vampire story quite like this before.
Steeped in well-researched occult tradition, set in a modern-day gritty mise-en-scene, The Conductor tells the story of vampires trying to survive, the witches who mix and mingle with them, the Brotherhood trying to destroy them, and Ramel Jackson. How Ramel ties into the story, I cannot spoil for you, but I can tell you this: he is a catalyst for events that had started generations before his time.
You start the story of Frederick Duval, a plantation owner's son, and the love that he held for a slave. You continue with Kaya and Aisha, two women in Metro New York who are so immersed in the occult that they are risking their lives for the path that they take. More than intricate and fascinating, these characters are, above all, refreshingly relatable. You can relate to their struggles and feel as though you know them or people like them, whether they are vampire or witch.
The action is just, simply, nonstop. You cannot put the book down. Yes, I missed subway stops reading this book. Yes, I lost sleep. For a story as intricate and action-packed as this, I would gladly do it again, and again, and one more time after that.

I wrote this so I'm going to be biased and very critical, therefore I will refrain from comment and let those who are set to read it give their reviews. Of course, it is a good story if you give it a try... Ok no more comments from me.
Yes, I did give myself 4stars as opposed to 5 because like I've seen on other reviews (Amazon.com) there is indeed a major typo problem. Of course, I intend to have this problem rectified for the 2nd book and I hope you'll be with me on that journey too.
