Non-fiction Jim Ling was among the great players of corporate games in that he invented his own games. And it worked for a while. This book gives the story of the ride on the way to the down fall.
It reads as oddly sympathetic/reverential to Ling, who comes across as very hard to feel sympathy for, and certainly doesn't come across as a particularly bright businessman. There's also an annoying 50 odd pages that is just transcript of Jimmy Ling's voice memos/diary. But the last two chapters detailing how Ling got booted out of LTV, the factors that precipitated it, and the boardroom battles make the book worth reading for anyone interested in Jimmy Ling and/or the conglomerate boom.
