These vague words had haunted reporter Adele Lumas for nearly as long as she could remember, in fractured dreams where she was pursued by an unknown but threatening entity. She believed the disturbing phenomenon a by-product of her various mental ailments, such as schizophrenia, where hushed voices plagued her waking life as much as the monsters in her dreams tormented her.
This, compounded with the devastating events surrounding her origin, kept Adele in a lonely cocoon where she had but one purpose: she tenaciously pursued every human monster that dared rear its head in her small Massachusetts town.
Things take a turn for the worse when Adele begins to have different dreams, where she is no longer prey, but the hunter. She stalks children in a relentless pursuit of blood. As disturbing as these dreams were, nothing could have prepared Adele for the shocking discovery that the victims in her dreams were real children being systematically targeted by a mysterious serial killer who would drain their tiny bodies of blood, and then steal them from the grave.
Her sanity is ultimately questioned when she encounters the killer face to face and she realizes the killer isn’t human at all. It is a vampire… and it is getting much too close for comfort by attacking those who are close to her.
As Adele struggles to maintain her perspective in this impossible situation, a beautiful man enters her life and makes her feel anything but odd or weird. He makes her feel beautiful, desired… loved. It was the first such time in her life where she even entertained the idea of romance, mostly because there is a connection to this man she cannot explain. Even more disconcerting, it is almost impossible to resist – as though she and this stranger are tied together by an unbreakable bond.
Adele begins to piece together the puzzle, which suggests she has a connection to the vampire in ways she could have never imagined. Painful revelations force her to reckon with the ominous request of her dreams. What is she willing to do for love?
Ginger Voight is a screenwriter and bestselling author with over twenty published titles in fiction and nonfiction. She covers everything from travel to politics in nonfiction, as well as romance, paranormal, and dark, “ripped from the headlines” topics like Dirty Little Secrets.
Ginger discovered her love for writing in sixth grade, courtesy of a Halloween assignment. From then on, writing became a place of solace, reflection, and security. This was never more true than when she found herself homeless in L.A. at the age of nineteen. There, she wrote her first novel, longhand on notebook paper, while living out of her car.
In 1995, after she lost her nine-day-old son, she worked through her grief by writing the story that would eventually become The Fullerton Family Saga.
In 2011, she embarked on a new journey—to publish romance novels starring heroines who look more like the average American woman. These "Rubenesque" romances have developed a following thanks to her bestselling Groupie series. Other titles, such as the highly-rated New Adult series, Fierce, tap into the "reality-TV" preoccupation in American entertainment, which gives her contemporary stories a current, pop culture edge.
Known for writing gut-twisting angst, Ginger isn’t afraid to push the envelope with characters who are perfectly imperfect. Whether rich, poor, sweet, selfish, gay, straight, plus-size or svelte, her characters are beautifully flawed and three-dimensional. They populate her lavish fictional landscapes and teach us more about the real world in which we live simply through their interactions with each other. Ginger’s goal with every book is to give the reader a little bit more than they were expecting, told through stories they'll never forget.
I won this book as part of a First Reads competition.
My Immortal was a solid tale, though a little convoluted and difficult to follow at times. I liked the psychology aspect of Adele's condition, even if it wasn't actually a psychology issue (what else could they have decided it was, given she was having hallucinations and dreaming of death).
I got a little tired of all the toing and froing in the middle, but it was nicely saved by the unexpected twist about Nicholas.
I liked the romance of the story, it was a strong and vibrant theme throughout the whole story. I could have done without the "happy" ending (the last chapter or so). It seemed a little cheesy.
I noted a few spelling/editing errors in the text, Ginger, if you want to know where, let me know. I also found one pretty glaring inconsistency in one of the scenes: on page 88 Adele is wearing jeans and an old sweater, later in the same scene (pg91) Adele is wearing an empire waistline dress...
Thank you Ginger for the copy of your book and the CD with the song that inspired it!
Really hard to put down once you start. A different take on vampires than most stories out today. Would have liked a little more detail in the characters background. I love that the story ended but that it was left open for a sequel too.
The beginning was really promising and had great potential, but it just went downhill when the author first introduced the vampire theme. As the story climaxed the descriptions and writing got more and more confusing and poorly written. By the end I pretty much just skimmed for the main details just to get a jist of how it would end. Very rushed compared to the opening.
I enjoyed this book very much and to be honest I loved how when she remembers her previous life and her love it was so beautiful my only complaint was that it finished :( she could of added a little more I think. But it was a great story
The first two-thirds of the book moved slowly for me, it was a bit wordy for my taste...but then the last third really drew me in when all the action really got going. A good overall read with some heart-rending twists at the end.
it took me a minute to catch on, but once I did I couldn't put it down. what a great story! the ending makes me wonder...will there be a continuation? I certainly hope so!
I loved this book. It had the classic vampire traditions with the suspense and romance. It is NOTHING like Twilight which is good...........still a better love story than twilight though lol.
So normally I never leave a review unless I have to, but this book I couldn't put down. I love her books unfortunately have to be in a certain frame of mind, because her books are very intense for me. This was wow I should kick myself in the butt for waiting this long to read it. A little creepy and scary of it could be the storm that's happening now. In short definitely with the read
