Ugh! Why did this one have to be so short? I love emotional stories with tortured and broken heroes. It makes for good romance and steam. Very good read, but just too darn short. :(
”His body exuded power and masculinity, leaving her quaking inside. Rational thought fled as his stare roamed over her body.”
Wow! Let me just say that again—WOW!
Broken is one steamy tale packed with such vulnerability, passion, and courage. Matt and Tiffany throw off some major “is-it-hot-in-here” sparks and chemistry right from the get-go. Readers will find themselves rooting for them from page one. Matt stole my heart with his tough as nails shell hiding all his pain and insecurity. I just wanted to jump on and never let go! :D
Short stories amaze me. I adore their quick, powerful, emotional punch. So I usually do NOT pull out the “it-should-have-been-longer” card all that often, but damn—I need to throw it out here. I longed for more time between the sex and conversation between these two. Haha…I know here I am complaining that we get right to the fun stuff and all I want to do is talk. ;) But at times, the switch from hot to cold was jarring and a bit ridiculous.
That said—I truly had fun here! Very hot stuff with strong, sexy characters.
Diane Alberts knows the way to my heart is with a dark, sexy, smouldering Marine. :D
Many men and women are returning from battle with scars on their bodies and souls. Matt Soloman saved the life of his partner and lost the use of his legs because of it. He has such a huge chip on his shoulder over the loss of his career, fiancé, and self-esteem. He doesn’t see himself as worthy. Tiffany is a therapist who was also a wounded soul. She stood up against the physical and emotional abuse that her boyfriend heaped on her and came out a stronger woman for it. But like Matt, she has a lot of baggage that comes along with her sexy body. Matt and Tiffany are both emotionally scarred people who aren’t able to see themselves as clearly as they see others. Broken is the tale of their one night stand and how they gain clarity with their own self-esteem. I loved the flawed characters who weren’t afraid to throw their own insecurities out there. I think we all can learn something from Tiffany and Matt about learning to love ourselves, scars and all. Broken is a sexy tale. The passion between Matt and Tiffany was immediate and had me visualizing Matt’s hot body. I loved the sex but it was the story of finding love again and taking a second chance that made this story amazing for me. I highly recommend this touching tale of passion and romance.
Broken is about Matt, a broken man with a broken spirit, after he had lost the use of his legs in a war. His squad was worried about him and helped him arranged for a one night stand through Madame Eves. He went on with it but had his fears everything, just because he was crippled...
Tiffany was a therapist who had just gone through a bad relationship and sought the services of Madame Eve for a fling and then she met this man in the elevator that caught her attention...
I have a thing for Diane's books. I love her style of writing and the way she spins her stories. I got hooked after reading her "One On Condition". This story may be just a short novella but it has got everything packed nicely in one great package. Broken is full of emotions, both from Matt and from Tiffany, about their pasts and their doubts. Matt's frustration really stood out in one scene and I think Diane did a great job in Broken. This short read is great for some great reads at night before going to sleep. Recommended for those who is looking for great and fast, satisfying romance read.
I am a fan of this series. All of these books are hot little reads that you can easily read within an hour or so. This one has a particularly moving scenario in that both of these characters have self-image issues which are affecting their self confidence, although they are both incredibly good-looking people. Matt is suddenly in a wheelchair after being wounded overseas. Two shattered legs and he doesn't know if he will ever be able to walk again. Tiffany has just come out of an abusive relationship. As a therapist, she should know better, but she's simply human with human vulnerabilities regardless of her profession.
I like that both of these characters are wounded in some way, although you can't see Tiffany's wounds. They really are a perfect match, although Matt especially, has doubts throughout. Overall this was good for about 45 minutes of entertaining diversion. I enjoyed the story and getting to know these two characters
I really enjoyed this book. As always with the INS series I don't like how short they are (I know it is the whole point but I read to quickly that this book only took me 20 minutes to read!)Handsome broken soldier + beautiful broken women = a hot a steamy evening! I have to say the last line drew a chuckle! Good job to the author.
Title: Broken, 1 Night Stand Story Author: Diane Alberts Publisher: Decadent Publishing Page Count: 41 Word Count: 11,427 Genre: erotic, contemporary, military
Content: M/F, Oral Staff Sergeant Matt Warwick returns from war with two broken legs—and a shattered future. Abandoned by his fiancée, he withdraws into a protective shell to hide from the pity filled glances thrown his way. His squad worries he’s fallen into depression, and arranges a 1NightStand through the renowned Madame Eve. Matt agrees but fears he will not be able to satisfy his date, for who would want a crippled man in her bed?
Blurb: Tiffany Forsen escaped a brutal relationship, and seeks to jump-start her life with a fling. Bars aren’t her scene, so when she hears of the fabulous 1NightStand service, she contacts Madame Eve immediately. All she wants is a night of fun with the hot guy in her picture—but winds up with much more. Can she convince him that she doesn’t see a crippled man…but a hero?
Or will his defenses keep her at arm’s length?
Matt is a Marine Sniper, who has recently come back from Afghanistan…he isn’t back because he wants to be he’s back because he was severely injured by a grenade. He’s currently confined to a wheelchair, but going through physical therapy trying to regain the use of his legs. Matt suffered severe breaks in both his legs from the grenade blast. His fiancée left him a month after his return. She couldn’t handle that he wasn’t the same man who had left. Matt has more than just his broken legs to deal with, he is experiencing nightmares that wake him up; sweating, screaming, and all out of sorts – he figures no lady would want to deal with that.
Somehow he had let his Team talk him into going out on a date. They contacted Madame Eve at 1 Night Stand and set Matt up for the night. He isn’t anywhere near ready for this, but has found himself in the lobby of Castillo Resorts, waiting for the elevator.
…..
Tiffany has had her own string of bad luck. Six months ago she broke it off with her boyfriend of two years. Not only did she break it off, but also sent him to jail. He was definitely not a nice guy. Tiffany has been working hard to put her life on a different track, building her self confidence and self esteem. Both had taken a beating as many times as she herself had.
She enters the lobby, and heads to the elevator. She spots Matt right away – she did get to see a picture of him when she set up her date through 1 Night Stand. Tiffany is checking Matt out, and liking every inch of what she sees so far…while Matt is going through all the bad things that have happened to him since he was injured in Afghanistan. He’s kind of having a pity party. He notices Tiffany – dressed to kill in an eye popping red dress. Matt’s first thought after seeing her is ‘she’s way out of my league’. While checking her out, he wonders again why he let his Team talk him into this… Tiffany would definitely be a woman he would go for, prior to his accident – now he just hopes to not see pity in her eyes.
When it seems like Tiffany has been staring at Matt for an uncomfortable amount of time – he finally speaks to her (not knowing she is his date) and is extremely defensive and rude to her. When she ends up following him down the hall to his room, he is vulgar and ruder to her…until Tiffany tells him that she is his date. Now Matt is trying to back peddle, but asks anyway ‘why would you want a cripple half a man, when you could have any man you wanted?’ Tiffany simply and honestly replies ‘because you are the one I want’.
Tiffany thinks to herself, how sexy Matt is and how very turned on she is just by being in the same room with him. They have some champagne and make some small talk. Matt quickly realizes that Tiffany ‘SEES’ him, for himself and not for a cripple in a wheelchair. If he can get over his own self doubt and really ‘SEE’ her, they may really be able to make a go of it. Will Tiffany convince him, or his anger and self loathing keep him from finding happiness at Tiffany’s side?
Super fun read! I really like the 1 Night Stand Story’s. They’re fast, hawt reads, but have good writing and very interesting characters. Matt grabbed my heart from the get go. I felt for him, and wonder how many men and women come back from the war with the things that Matt is experiencing. I wanted to reach into the book and tell Matt he is so much more than he’s giving himself credit for! Mobility does not make a person – what’s inside them is what people should look for. Tiffany is a therapist, and her brother is in the Army. She has experience with soldiers and their traumas. Not once does she feel sorry for Matt. She SEES him. Not as a man confined to a wheelchair, but as an interesting, handsome man that she is very attracted to. She can’t wait to learn more about him, hoping that he will SEE her. Not as the survivor of a bad situation, but as the woman gaining self confidence, and ready to fall in love.

Second story I have read from the 1Night Stand series (even though this is the 10oth story in the series). Multiple authors write these short stories so each one may be a little different than the last one. This story centers around Matt, a wounded war veteran who lost the use of his legs in Afganhistan and Tiffany, a woman who recently got out of an abusive relationship who is also a therapist that helps war victims overcome their issues ie. PTSD, anxiety, depression etc etc. The men in Matt's unit want to help him move forward with his life so they set him up with a date through the 1Night Stand company run by a lady named Eve. This story easily could have been a bit longer.
Matt is wounded not just physically, but emotionally. His wounds are not easy to heal. Truth be told, they may never heal; not unless he's willing to accept the new him, which of course he won't. Stubborn man! Who can blame him? He's a top notch sniper, or he was anyway, who is now trying to get used to his new life. Add insult to injury, his so called fiancee walks out on him. So much for all her professed love.
Tiffany is a therapist, who is in need of therapy herself, possibly more so than her patients, but she will have none. Just as Matt, she is wounded both physically and emotionally. Her ex is a jackass, who's now serving some well deserved time behind bars.
Matt and Tiffany make a go for Madame Eve's 1 Night Stand. What could possibly go wrong? A meeting between two consenting adults, who agree to have a great time, no expectations, no strings attached. Sounds awesome, right? Yes and no.
The concept sounds terrific, yet the possibility of a one night stand becoming a love worth pursuing is another thing all together. They have two options: 1)Take everything the one night stand has to offer, and forget about it the next day. Or, 2)Take everything and more.
I loved it! It's a really short story, the kind of hot read, perfect for bed time. Right story length, pace, engaging characters and story line. Yes, it will leave you wanting more. It left me wanting to read it over again. It is that good.
Tiffany Forsen is looking for a new experience. The last relationship was a disaster, the guy brutal. She finds Madame Eve’s One Night Stand service and finds a good looking guy to go out with. She hopes this will get her back into the dating game. Staff Sergeant Matt Warwick came back from the war without his legs, without his friend. He was a mess and angry. His fiancé walked out on him and he was going through Madame Eve’s service to find someone to be with for a night. He didn’t count on finding a therapist who would see him as a hero. They barely get along, Matt has trouble letting her see him and he has anger issues that spill out over Tiffany. Can they pull it together to turn a simple one night stand into a relationship? This is a very poignant story, sexy but kind of sad at the same time. I found myself wanting to hug Sergeant Warwick. There is a part in the story that could be a trigger for anyone with a background like Sergeant Warwick as well. Because it is an interesting story in the One Night Stand series, I give it four glasses of cream. Miss Kitty, Erotic Reviews (Charlayne Elizabeth Denney)
I have been enjoying these "1 Night Stand" stories so much. I do believe this particular story is one of my favorites. Tiffany is trying still to get over an abusive relationship that chipped away at her self esteem so she picks a hero for her 1 night stand. Feeling she would be safe with him because he is a good man. Matt, who is a Marine and who lost his ability to walk during a battle at war comes back and proceeds to lose all self respect. He thinks everybody pities him including Tiffany because she is so perfect why would she want him unless it was for pity. They're both broken looking for someone to help heal them for just one night. This is an erotic romance novella. The sex was hot and sensual. I liked the characters and could relate with them in a human kind of way. A bit rushed but real. It could happen maybe...
I have to say I was blown out of the water by this novel! With only forty-one pages, Diane Alberts gives us not only a good look at the men who fight for our freedom and the difficulties they face, but a novel that heats up the room. Having never read any of her books in this series or her others, I'm now an addicted reader. This novel definitely gives a good run for the saying that its quality not quantity that matters. Her characters come to life with very clear voices and it leaves the reader wanting more. Not only is this a wonderful book, but the dedication alone is enough to ensure you keep reading her.
I was fully ready to like this story after ready the summary. The execution, however fell a bit short. Matt is damaged both physically and emotionally. It is understandable why he lashes out, but it felt as though Tiffany was a bit too complacent with it. There should have been a bit more pushback, considering her history. As a result, there was no chemistry other than the physical. I could see what he saw in her, but not necessarily the other way around. Matt wasn't all bad, but lashing out at perfect strangers for no reason probably means you're not ready for a relationship, even one as fleeting as a one night stand. Tiffany takes most of it in stride and pines for him, although besides hot sex, he really didn't do anything to endear himself to her or me as the reader.
I love this author... This book sort of made me sad and want to cry. If it was a full novel I'm sure I would've. It's about a broken man and broken women. I think between the two they went together wonderfully. Matt was extremely harsh and hurtful but Tiffany didn't really come off as the battered women she was supposed to be. In saying this she also sort of did. She was defiantly wounded and hurt so i think the shortness of the story made it more difficult to get a crossed. I also like the focus being on the characters interaction with each other not their actual issues with theirselves.
A great short read about a marine that has returned from war a shadow of his former self. Badly wounded, traumatised and abandoned by his fiancée Matt's forced onto a blind date arranged through an agency by his team. His self confidence has been knocked but his date is determined to help him see past his current situation and help her heal from her traumas.
This story touched me, the author has captured Matt's point of view perfectly.
This story had everything I love in a 1Night Stand; vulnerable characters, a hot hotel room scene, tension, and an emotional oomph. Diane Alberts left me with a twisted stomach, a lump in my throat, and tears in my eyes. I will definitely read more from her.
This was okay. Not my usual style- very quick and very little character development, but since I knew it was short, I shouldn't have been surprised. The descriptions seemed kind of forced at times.
