This is a simple non-fiction book for early elementary grades, or potentially even kindergarten. Each page shows a picture and a word or two that tells the reader a type or trait of a ladybug. This would be a good introduction to an insect unit for 1-2 grades. Additionally, this book also offers students a good sample/preview of non-fiction reading. It's simple format shows students the function of a glossary and how non-fiction texts are generally laid out.

This book could be used to jump start a lesson in science on lady bugs for 1-2 graders. There Are llots of interesting facts in the book that describe lady bugs. As a class we could go outside and catch lady bugs and collet some then do a venn diagram with the different characteristics of the ones we have.
